To spawn nodes with shortcut keys y need to click mouse and the shortcut. Not only the shortcut. For example, if I want to add a Constant Node (shortcut "1") I must press key 1 and while pressing it I must click left mouse button. It is not just pressing key 1.

Just go to the content browser and select the Import option, then you can just select the asset you want to import
