Unless I'm mis-remembering, wasn't creating decals a lot more cumbersome? Regardless, Quick and easy. THANK YOU for you help.

Hi 3DTudor, great tutorial! Would love to get your advice on why my decals just disappear when I press "G". Not sure what I am doing wrong pls help!
@3DTudor2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, Pressing G enters you into game view, I assume the decals disappear when you press play as well, try checking in your details tab if you have 'actor hidden in game' ticked on as it will hide any assets with it on. Hope this helps :)

eem what if i wish to apply decal to a curved wall, or wall with holes, or uneven object?
@3DTudor Жыл бұрын
if you make a projection box thinner, you can have some finer controls. It's best to try and avoid them to get less distortion :)

How do you do Normal-only decals in UE5? For footprints and such. The Decal Response list in the material is grayed out and I don't know what makes it editable.
@3DTudor2 жыл бұрын
Hi, dandeentremont, In material settings, when you change the blend mode to translucent, change the material domain to a deferred decal, it will allow you to use that material as a decal with normals and other PBR channels, you can just drag it out into the world and it should work. Hope this helps :)
@QuiteDan2 жыл бұрын
@@3DTudor But my issue is that I can't make it with ONLY Normals. If I make a decal material with no Roughness or Color inputs, it just uses the default dark gray and 0.5 rough when displayed in the scene.

how do you get the paper thing in the middle of the decal to go away?
@3DTudor2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dante, you can hide decal icon by pressing G, although they wouldn't be visible once you render out a scene anyways :) Thanks, Luke
@dantediego2 жыл бұрын
@@3DTudor thank you. I definitely know they won't render out cuz that would be stupid like the icons not disappearing when you click away from the decal smh sometimes I wonder who comes up with this crap. When you have many decals it is super annoying to see a bunch of those icons everywhere.

@@3DTudor advice if you plan on making more tutorials for new people. The stuff that you think is not important, is the stuff that new guys go crazy over because they don't understand everything. You should preface the videos by saying what level of knowledge of the engine you should have. I hate when I start a tutorial video and they already have a bunch of stuff populated. I know it's to save time but sometimes we need to follow every little step period beginners art beginners think about it like someone who doesn't know how to ride a bicycle

Thanks for the feedback Dante, Good criticism is always welcome here! We'll take your response into consideration for making our future content. Luke

Is there any way to keep animated textures or png image sequence on decals in unreal engiene?
@3DTudor2 жыл бұрын
There's a way to use video with opacity as cut-out, but I've never tried having an animated decal. Alternatively, you could create a subUV texture and use it to make multiple frames within a single image to animate a sequence using a particle system.
@shash80852 жыл бұрын
@@3DTudor I was trying to recreate something similar to the title sequence of Night teeth from Netflix. I tried adding a png sequence to my deffered decal material as a video texture but it doesn't work

are decals in 5 still a costly thing?
@3DTudor2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, yes, with lumen lighting, I was hoping it'd be less, but after some testing, that doesn't seem to be the case. So yeah, you still need to be careful and not overuse it :)
