Just a little tip: If you fall through the scene and get far away from the starting point, you can simply double-click on the object (under the outliner) that you want to be instantly transported to. Much easier than manually having to navigate the camera back to the scene/object from afar :D

Oh that's a good point. I'm a kind of person that learns how to do something in one way and then never bothers finding other ways... Unfortunately I switch from 5.2 to 5.1.1 mid-way through the course, as 5.2 became highly unstable once I've started adding 5.1 assets from the marketplace into it.

There's a second "Unreal Engine 5 for Architects - INTERMEDIATE Course" where I go through some of the blueprint creation. Is the industry standard workflow to import assets from a modeling program instead of creating inside UE? Any suggestions on how to handle assets using imperial instead of metric?
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
Oh, absolutely external software should be used. Unreal Engine does not have (proper) 3D asset creation tools. Currently Maya, Cinema4D and Blender are three industry standards for asset creation. As for imperial vs metric - unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for the majority of users :D ) UE is built on a decimal numeric system rather than fractional, so you'll have to get used to it. With that being said - you can model assets in inches in any 3D modeling software and during import to UE they will be automatically converted into centimeters.

This course is very thorough! Pity someone can't create the same journey for animation

Thank you for such an in depth tutorial. I skimmed a few parts as I already had an idea of what I was achieving, but let me know something that I also noticed on your renders - If the wind is blowing through the trees, how come the shadows stay static? that first shot where the tree's shadow is up against the wood would look much better with the shadow gently swaying in the wind. I can't seem to animate my trees' shadows either, was wondering if you had any idea! Thank you and keep on being awesome =)

I had to do a double take for this - they indeed are swaying in the wing and the shadows are responding (as long as you're Raytracing them). It's a very calm day, so there's not a lot of movement, but if I hold the camera still - then I can clearly see that the shadows are definitely reacting to the wind.

really nice tutorial, thanks for the efforts! One question: If you have an RTX card and like to use the path tracing feature is the blank architecture template still for you? because there is no checkbox for raytracing in the beginning
@DesignGoBrr

PathTracing and RayTracing are two different things. Pathtracing is much closer to typical rendering methods (maxwell, vray and so on), while Raytracing is still real-time. But yea - I'd use architectural template for everything architecture related and build off / change settings from there.

I learned a lot from this material and I love the way how You're explaining things. What I'm missing here is how to create geometry for building. It is provided from beginning and it is imported via datasmitch. Is Unreal Engine 5 not good for creating geometry? Any recommendation how to create buildings from floorplan in pure UE5 editor?
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
short answer is - don't use UE for that. For architecture you'd use something like Rhino, Revit or Archicad (if you're a professional architect) and Blender, Sketchup or 3ds Max (if you're in the "this doesn't need to be built in real-life" business). I have plenty of Rhino and Revit 3D modeling tutorials on my channel (even a Full beginner Rhino course) , so check those out

Thank you for sharing! ! ! But i've got one question about the workflow of Architecture rendering: If we can use the datasmith to export both from Revit model and Rhino model, which one would you suggest? Which is better for further modifying?
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, really depends on the quality of the Revit model vs Rhino model. If quality is identical - then I'd choose Revit as it spits out every wall as a separate entity. Basically a bunch of separate boxes. This greatly improves the accuracy of lumen calculations.
