Phantasy Star IV was the first Phantasy star game I ever played, greatly appreciate the love for it in the beginning. Manga panels for life. My brain kind of melts thinking about what that would have looked like on CD, however I am still so glad to have the one we got that brought me into the franchise.

Hell yeah man. PS4 was the first of the classic series I played, technically I started first with PSO.

Your love for the serie is showing, thanks for the video (not the first one you did on the subject) but this one in particular is expanding on infos that we rarely see on youtube. I agree with you on the ideas that cut scenes were great (and this way to present a story should be used more often). I think that countrary to anime cut scenes, they are better presentation ofthe story as each of them is cleverly calculated to show the dynamic of the group, elipses that help us understand that there are off times when characters interact normally in civil clothes, that the world is alive and lived in. I doubt that we would have had that with an anime. also dungeon crawling although it is its own type of RPG nowadays, I am definitly not a fan of so I am happy they didn't go that way. I think they did a remarquable job with PSIV but probably not all the stories they had in mind at sega were truly good. The alternate story about Lutz being the main protagonist of PSII and having his stats changed to a warrior because of cryogenisation??!! Space slave trade... The alt mangas or drama stories with Chaz being some kind of super powerfull esperas a child and meeting Nei 3rd?? design is nice and all but I doubtthe story could have gone anywhere good should ithad continued. Final point, I laught at the Alis purple hair, I think her hair is not purple in the world map but becomes green for some reasons, it became a joke I like to point out as she is a character that has so few time continuity with her hair, she can be described as having brown, black, blond, green, purple hair and all those descriptions are correct ^^

I like what you said in your second paragraph, I guess you are right because I doubt these anime clips would be long enough to show you the "off times" of the characters. We would of had to have a mix of the cutscene style that we got on our genesis PS4 with some anime clips thrown in to have a nice balance. And where did you hear about those alternate stories with Lutz being the main protagonist of PS2 or with Chaz being a powerful esper? Are those rumors or did Sega actually consider making these stories because I haven't heard those before

@@RetroSpectors strange, I wrote 2 answers and they didn't get published? So I was saying, the first idea for PSII was to base it off Lutz getting out of cryogenic sleep and being now a fighter. I probably read that in Phantasy star compendium which translation can be seen at pscave website. The images of lutz with green hair in a sub par design can also be seen on ps cave and other web site. (green hair, bandana, mediocre artist within the 80's style, it isn't that good of a find actually) For the 3 chapiter about Nei 3rd you should look for yumpoplala dianarebollar translation on internet (with those name you should find it) and then go in the translations of her website. I don't know if my posts were erased because I put a link last time so I just write a normal message. Feel free to ask me if you don't find that.

I love researching and speculation on unreleased and cancelled games. The amount of prototypes that are leaking on the internet nowadays is staggering so I hold out hope for more info on this, the cancelled Wonderswan remake of FF3, Mother 3 on N64 and all the other holy grails lol. You should cover the Japan only PS2 remakes of Phantasy Star 1 and 2. I wonder why those versions never got ported or translated? Maybe something went wrong with them?
@stefanswiss3760 Жыл бұрын
they were remade at the wrong time : - wrong time for anime graphisme with digital work that looks flat in the early 2000 - wrong time for sega that had no more money - wrong time internet wise as other wise they could have been sold for cheap titles to download on steam or Xbox live, playstation store etc. - wrong time on the nostalgia scale too I think, the 80's nostalgia was not yet kicking. this is not the reason it wasn't released though, the first one was enjoyable but they screw up with the second one and although I love the serie, I won't blame them for not bringing it out of japan, they were subpar games unfortunately

@@stefanswiss3760 Thanks for the breakdown, it's always fascinating when it comes to Japan only releases and what could have been. Similar things happened to the Tales of Series

The Tokyo Toy Show 1992 took place from June 4 to 7, organized by the Japan International Toy Fair Association in Mihama, Chiba. During the event, the prototype of Phantasy Star IV was showcased. In August 1992, Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM, issue 37) published an exclusive article that thankfully debunked the Game Pro Magazine’s fake news from the previous month (issue 36 from July 1992), which claimed that "Phantasy Star IV:The Return of Alis” was in development stages. As you said, in the same year, Phantasy Star Gaiden was also released (three months after that article), and it concluded with Alis returning to Algol. That 3D dungeon already features Rudy (Chaz), Reire (Alys), Thray (Rune), Fal (Rika), and Fallen (Wren).

Seeing the panel cut scenes in PSIV shows how much they drew from that method when presenting the story in PSO: Ep. III.

Was so disappointed back in the day when I found out the next PSO was a card game. If only Blue Burst came out first, then CARD after I would have been more forgiving. I have a copy of Ep3, just havent played it yet

@@RetroSpectors I know many were disappointed, though I was fine with it. There is a private server called Ragol if you ever want to give it a go. For ease of use I just emulate it. For Blue Burst I play on Ephinea.

It would be epic if there was a leak. But, I would settle for a fan mad Sega CD port of the one we have gotten.

It could be that the 3D dungeons look dated compared to Mode 7 stuff on the SNES.
