The Betrayal of Kenya's Athletes | Unreported World

Kenyan athletes have topped the medal tables at Athletics world championships and are known around the world for their success on the athletics track. But many Kenyan runners have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and in 2016 the world anti doping agency put Kenya on probation, saying they were non compliant with global anti-doping rules.
In 2016 Ade Adepitan travelled to the town of Eldoret to investigate what scandals around doping meant for Kenya's athletes. This episode first aired on 29/04/2016.

Please give us an update on Julius, his life and journey . Dying to know what happened with him. It feels so incomplete now this unfinished story of his quest. ( I'm sure the reporter felt the same when he finished, to have to leave Julius's story unfinished because Julius was robbed of this big chance he'd worked so hard for.) Also what was the reason for that race being cancelled, at the last minute with no prior notice ? That's not right ! It must cost money for these poor athletes to get to a race and it's money they don't have to just throw away. I hope I hear this man wins something huge one day. The reporter on this story is just wonderful at connecting with the interviewees and asking all the questions I want to know the answers to. I love that he has the patience and grace to show respect and allow time for their candid answers. Too many doing interviewers do too much talking and not enough attentive listening. Great job !

Very interesting story, and such a pain to watch and learn about the desperation that motivates many runners. And the frustration of facing so many competitors using EPO and other banned substances, not really leaving any way for those who wants to be clean. And much respect to Ade Adepitan for being a great reporter and for telling a story that he clearly has close to his heart - I'd love to see more documentaries with him. And finally, like many others, I wish Julius the best and hope that he found success!

as a kid in the middle class, this made me cry, how someone with almost nothing could achieve so much. Then i'm here fking wasting my time on stuff that wont even matter. First of all I would once again like to appreciate Ade for the sensitivity and mindfulness he uses in dealing with such sensitive issues. Such a great journalist and one of my favourites. I wish the situation for the athletes gets better in Kenya because it is really sad to see them die so young leaving behind families in such a bsd state when all they want it to better the situation for themselves and their loved ones. I believe the reporter is a disability athlete himself. I swear ive seen him before. man I really got to search him up. 5 secs later; huh apparently his name is Ade adepitan. his main cause seems to be supporting disabled people sports and charities that support them. his legs are paralyzed due to getting polio as a child.
