James Collins yeah but human ships needed a 3/1 ratio to battle the covenant on average. On the brute vs elite side was because the elites had the bigger ships while the brutes had the numbers.

Both fleets were CCS and CAS, the Shadow of Intent being the only CAS in possesion of the Arbiter and the brute fleet had at least 2 of them It is just that Elites are war masters trained from the day they can walk and that Elite admirals are legendary tacticians respected by even AIs, also Cortana tweaked the Elite fleet weaponry to render it more effective (why hasn't it be done before you ask? That's heresy to the San'Shyum)

Considering what people say and what makes sense in lore, about 3:1 so for 3 ships you need 9 unsc ships, now, please upvote this comment so they can see, the UNSC won with really intense tactics, so strategy can win the fight, the UNSC would stay out if range and pound the ships to get the shields, the same goes for SE, maybe consider destroying shields from a distance. No head on combat. Soooooo Try to flank the rear while approaching, and take out the shields from behind and out of range in order to survive and maintain menuverability, once shields are down approach the two escorts with each half of the fleet, overwhelm them and take them out or disable, all while staying out of range of the CAS, once the escort Cruisers are desteoyed, engage the CAS and unload all available and surviving macs, the only reason to approach the Covenant ships is to put those missles in range which can tear them up when shields are down. Just like this video, one or two frigates should remain out of range and fire mac cannons and engage as a last resort when needed. Please comment on this plan and upvote to see if this works in the next video

I wouldnt suggest using frigates as escorts since there are no fighters to defend against, the cruisers should use there ships larger armor to defend the frigates firepower, if the ships will be chewed up by the lasers, let them chew up armor instead of chewing up the entire frigates first.

In the lore the covenant had superior precision slipspace while the UNSC had superior range. I would propose UNSC sit at range and pound em with mac cannons. There really isn't any reason for CQB. The Covenant however, their onus is to get in close. They are allowed to use hyperspace, while the UNSC aren't.

Balee Tong The UNSC also knew when they engaged the covenant, it often required 10 to 1 in ships to overcome the covenant, but 7 to one probably would be fair.

unfortunately, the Covenant did have ships that can outrange basically everything the UNSC had, the only example we have of it is in the Fall of Reach novel, During the battle of Reach, a massive covenant ship was sniping the ODP the were orbiting reach from outside the killzone (around 100,000 km).

It's odd to think that coilguns would have superior effective ranges than lasers/plasma weapons, but then again, as Cortana pointed out, Covenant weapons are highly inefficient and waste a lot of power. Human weapons are little more honed and precise.

From an engineering perspective electromagnetic have a near and far field effect. The characteristic of a emf output is dependent on it's waveguide. From the lore, the Covenant copies, but do not create. So whatever design they obtained, sticks. And the way i see it, nothing beats some good old blunt force trauma.

What about this for an idea? Get 15 people together and give everyone 30 mins to build some sort of ship to do a free-for-all battle in 3 rounds, first round is the first 5 to be destroyed, same for round 2, round 3 has the remaining 5 contestants and the remaining survivor is the winner (survivors can repair ships at the end of rounds 1 and 2, will be a creative battle as 30 mins in survival would just be unrealistic)

Usually the UNSC had to have a 5:1 ratio to have any chance of taking down a Covenant ship, and that was for their cruisers. Carriers had to have nearly 9:1 to stand any chance in hell of doing any lasting damage to one of those.

Giomacs you bring up excellent points, however in those situations unconventional tactics had to be employed to even the odds due to a huge lack in resources and they had individuals gifted in unconventional tactics present in all those situations. With Operation Uppercut sacrificing one of the few remaining frigates slip-space drives as a make-shift bomb that was activated on a boarded corvette that literally ripped the covenant carrier in half. With the missing piece being thrown some where into oblivion. And the Spirit of Fire not only sacrificing it's drive to destroy one shield world that was a Forerunner shipyard, but also having Spartan Jerome boarding the carrier above the Ark to have the AI Isabelle activate it's main plasma glass beam weapon to provoke the Forerunner defense probes to engage and destroy the carrier. Now here are the reasons why I had stated those ratios, and I'm sure you can see where I'm coming. Covenant ships had a total of 3-5 offensive weaponry that was on all their ships. Starting with long range was the particle beam lance/cannon, much like the particle sniper rifle you see in Halo 2-3 they are high damage output. But they take time to cool off and charge for another shot, and this weapon is actually seen in Halo 2 briefly on a cruiser tearing open of the UNSC's cruisers that pass over in it's line of fire. It's also made mention in a book, The Fall of Reach I believe, in one engagement involving Keyes. Second, and one of the most effective weapons, the plasma torpedoes. Guided balls of ionized super-heated gas that weren't very fast, but were devastating and hard to shield against. Intercepting them with missiles was useless since the warheads were more then likely detonated prematurely due to intense heat. In another book they had to sacrifice an entire station to shield the UNSC defense fleet so they could have another chance to fire their MAC's a second time in staggered sequence to have any chance to cripple the covenant baring down on them. Next would be plasma cannons, they would just fire the equivalent of torpedoes without the guidance. However the rounds were faster, but were also limited in range. Example of this weapon is seen in Halo Reach, the broadside weapons of the corvette were one form of this weapon. Great for mid-short range, and had decent fire rate. Next in line would be the short range particle beam turrets, an example would be Halo Legends with the Package. Their construction is similar to the particle lance, but don't output nearly the power, so they lack the range. Great for screening against fighters, the only reason they stopped firing in the movie was their own fighters had been launched. So they more then likely opted to avoid friendly fire as much as possible. Next would be the plasma repeater turrets, and going back to Halo Reach. On the corvette when engaging, there were a number of these small short range weapon emplacements that would engage fighter craft that got too close. Similar to the Covenant's troop heavy weapon stand or the light plasma repeater machine gun that is encountered in Halo 2. Not a lot of range, but impressive rate of fire. Great for intercepting fighters and missiles given proper fire control upgrades. Last but certainly not least would be the glassing beam. A ventral mounted plasma projection beam weapon that was literally connected directly under the reactor as Halo Reach proven. The Covenant reactor was essentially a straight up plasma reactor that was overclocked and discharged when this beam was fired. This weapon wasn't fired on too many ships that were not moored as it was possible to dodge it or even fire and destroy it, setting off a cataclysmic chain reaction. UNSC ships didn't have shields until much later in the war, so they were heavily reliant on using sacrificial pawns to give their more powerful MAC weapons a chance to cripple and even destroy Covenant ships. Using light frigates and/or decommissioned vessels as literal meat shields for heavier cruisers to charge up and fire a second or even third round. And that became standard doctrine of engaging Covenant ships because one or two of your vessels would more then likely be destroyed in the first volley of fire. Nukes weren't as effective as they could be intercepted before reaching the shield to do any realistic damage. And some ship's shields could take a number of nukes before putting a dent in them. And MAC weapons were varied due to size and available power output of the reactors for each ship, so they didn't always have the power to punch through the shields the first shot, but after the second or third was achievable. Assuming you weren't destroyed before then and the ships in your flotilla could still fire their MACs as well. And on top off all of this still need a way to screen against potential fighters. Covenant had more fighter craft with their smaller banshee attack craft that may not have had the firepower, but were still dangerous to be left alone either. In the first engagement in retaking Harvest from the Covenant the UNSC suffered tremendous losses to a handful of Covenant cruisers and destroyers. And that was using the 3:1 ratio, and less then 30% of that UNSC fleet survived the engagement. Next would actually be the UNSC training regiment, they were not well informed in combating Covenant ships due to a lack of knowledge of their ship construction and weapon system capabilities. That was later rectified, but what came out of it was a series of protocols. Purging any and all sensitive data relating to earth, top secret projects and associated personnel files, and random jump in the hopes of evading and/or misleading the Covenant fleet from pursuing. That was if you were caught by yourself, without a sufficient means to defend yourself, or not worried about defending civilians. All in all as you have brought up excellent point in that certain tactics proven very effective, it was the general conciseness to have numbers in favor of UNSC over Covenant ships. However the 3:1 ratio wasn't quite as effective due to the wider range of weapons the Covenant had readily available along with shields. This and the Covenant had more advanced slip-space drives that could allow them to jump in system, though at the expense of their shields. However that was only discovered later and even then by the time a ship could realistically engage a Covenant ship would be too close between them bringing shields online and their weapons. So maybe 40-50% the UNSC might get a shot at crippling one dropping out of slip-space, but it was pretty rare since UNSC wanted to make sure they had enough ships with enough firepower to stand any chance as the lose of one MAC was a devastating lose to fleet combined firepower.

Make more of these halo battles Jack! Also you need a bigger battle group and I think it was 20 or 30 ships to take on one Covenant Cruiser. Though Vice Admiral Cole had 40 ships to take down one cruiser which cost him 13 ships. The UNSC decided to use wolf pack tactics knowing it would take three ships to destroy one Covenant cruiser

Turtle Ass I don’t trust comics because they show the whole picture. If you read the books and look up online. UNSC actually used any ships they had against a Carrier. Example looked at the Battle of Earth the UNSC engaged four CSA carriers and eight cruisers. Every ship in the Earth Defense Fleet was launched at the carriers and cruisers.

Ace, the 3:1 ratio is for fighting frigates. Cruisers usually required more than that. If they had been fighting 3 frigs, they might have won the fight in the video (if they played it smart and outranged them to drop the shields).But that CAS is a monster, would take a lot more to take it out.

Jack, a good tactic for this would have been to send a couple ships to behind the Covenant ships, set your Jump Drives to 7.5k blind jump, set in behind them and take out their shields/engines from outside their range, which would cripple them, then you could just pick them off from range.

10 ships. Two heavy cruisers, four destroyers, six frigates. The destroyers and frigates take turns firing on a target to break their shields and the heavy Cruisers use their MACs to destroy the ship. That was standard UNSC tactics for dealing with Covenant ships.

3-1 are the favorable odds, depending on ship size. I think there needs to be a mod for the plasma torpedo weapons the Covenant use. In the books they literally melt their way through UNSC ships and can be steered, but they take awhile to charge up. The only weapons the UNSC really use are the Archer missiles and the MAC guns. Using a MAC gun, like from the Artillery Cruiser video would be a lot closer to what i'd imagine. Add missile turrets or even cruise type missiles to make it an even fight. Love the video!

So, I have an Idea. Like the other guy said. Have it over Earth. The Covenant obj would be to destroy the stations while the fleet objective would be to protect them. Also I think it would give it balance due to the fact that the Covenant fleet is so OP against the UNSC that in this particular game mode. The stations should be manned by one player each to be used as weapons. So that would be a total of three stations 3 players. That's just the idea I had.

With the UNSC fleets, the Fifth Expeditionary fleet actually contained 75 ships in it. Though they ranged majorly, a UNSC fleet would have, at least, probably like 15 ships in total, and would most likely consist of a carrier, a command ship (in your case, perhaps a Halcyon), and most of the ships being destroyers and frigates. I thought up a small fleet of 15 ships: 1 x Magellan-class Carrier (I've just selected a carrier at random, though, the UNSC Infinity could fit here too.) 1 x Halcyon-class 5 x Paris-class cruiser 5 x Diligence-class destroyer 3 x Stalwart-class light-cruiser

Adding on to my previous comment, maybe have a respawn system where let’s say with the 4 cruisers and 4 frigates, when someone in a cruiser is incapacitated, they respawn in a frigate away from the battle so it bolsters the UNSC’s side but doesn’t necessarily increase their immediate fire power

I'm building the ultimate vessel that I never thought of building in my mind, 2 ships in 1 that separates both ships with a massive pulse cannons on Top ship and Bottom ship at includes hyperdrives onboard 2 ships and 2 rotating thrusters on top rear. Ships name is called (LAW-701/702) / (Lustania Advanced Warship) Top ship is for supporting fire on enemy ships while the small ships engages with the enemies for doubles the weapons Bottom ship for the hanger bay to park small ship inside the 2 ship streering is that bad need more gyro things for better turning. Will be published on Steam as soon as possible

Lore wise i believe the covenant sometimes only needed a total of 25 ships too take on a whole UNSC fleet

Should have the flag ship sit alittle bit behind the battle and have it deploy sabres or pelicans.(Edit)The ships that been destroyed and you should have the battle happen in and around a planet.Have a battle over a city.IDEAS

i feel like you couldve easily taken on that covenant force with what you had, just wouldve required proper kitings (the art of keeping range) and fire focusing.

The thing that's interesting about the Covenant cannot fight on the ground so when they start losing on the ground they take it to the space and that's when they win

In general the UNSC needed three ships to successfully engage a single Covenant frigate. In the process, they would lose two of the three ships and the third would be crippled. For a larger Covenant ship, no idea. Perhaps 9 ships with the loss of at least seven.

here is what you need to destroy the covenant ship 1. a couple of frigates to take the shield offline 2 .three small bombers 3 .one spartan with AI 4 .one covenant bomb

To give some perspective of the power of Covenant warships: Battle of Alpha Aurigae 2526 117 UNSC warships under the command of Admiral Preston Cole engage a fleet of 12 Covenant warships. All Covenant ships are destroyed at the cost of 37 UNSC ships

it looks like its not the number of ships but the kind of ships and how you fought you went head to head with better ships and a single bigger ship that has been known to out last alot i think if you spread out before hand (before the fighting not during ) in groups of 2 or 3 lower their numbers by group firing them and keep forceing them to turn to fire at one group at a time that will help or do hit and run with the different groups that will help as well

I think the number ship was fine but the attic what went wrong as you lost macs to early as you charge them when should have kept distances to allow the macs to do more. As rang is biggest advantage you have on them.

May I suggest that all your ships should be the same and with the same firepower. Another thing I would suggest is that all of you arrive at the same time for maximum effect. And, maybe, you might consider including auto repair at each end of your ships.

You got it backwards in the Lore its UNSC who call these smaller ship groups Battle Groups and Covenant call both The Small and Large groups Fleets

Same number of ships but add fights to the mix and Focus fire all Mac on the biggest ship first then the unsc will win. Also where do you sign up to join in one of your space battles?

Battle Group make up. Four Cruisers, four destroyers, eight frigates. Use the four destroyers in wolf pack hit and runs. Have the four Cruisers stay far apart and unload at the same time as the hit and runs strike but other wise use them as shields for the frigates. Fire for effect. Focus on engines and weapon systems. Keep out of range and force them to commit to one target at a time. Focus on one ship at a time to drain their shields and break through their armor.

Here's how I think it would have played out in real life. The Human ships would break off into three seperate groups, with two groups each comprising of two of the Paris Class Heavy Frigates and one Halcyon Class Cruiser. The third group with be comprised of the remaining Halcyon and the Marathon. Each of the individual battlegroups would be focusing on a single ship, and would open fire with their MAC's. Now, we do know that the MAC of a Paris Class Frigate on its own would not be able to break through a Covenant ships shield, generally taking 2-3 shots just to make it through. So with the combined MAC's of two Paris class and one Halcyon class each, the two side purple ships would most likely loose their shields. The human ships would launch a volley of Archer missiles soon afterwards. Each Paris class has rougly 50 Archer missile pods, each holding twenty four missiles, with the Halcyon only having six. This equals 1,344 Archer missiles hitting each of the purple ships, which is enough to atleast cripple, if not destroy, them. Now moving onto the Halcyon and Marathon cruisers. Both ships have more powerful MACS than the Paris class, with the Marathon also being more powerful than the Halcyon. These two MAC rounds alone ought to be enough to take out the shields on the central white ship. Now, the Marathon class has 75 Archer pods, each also holding 24 missiles. This equals to roughly 1800 missiles on the MArathon alone, combined with the Halcyon's 144, it would be more than enough to, once again cripple if not destroy the enemy vessels. Now of course we have to explore the possibilities that Covenant ships will be able to destroy a few of the UNSC forces, however, if the Human ships are able to stick back ling enough to deploy their MAC's and Archer missiles, I would say that the UNSC would be able to pull a victory on this battle, though with heavy losses. My guess is atleast one of the Halcyons, and atleast three of the Paris Class. Now lets say the combined force of the MAC's and Archer missiles were unable to destroy the Covenant ships, though I do believe atleast one of the purple ships would be destroyed, with another atleast crippled. So lets say the white ship survived, and have able to destroy two of the Paris class and one of the Halcyon's, we know that each ship has atleast one company (20 men) of ODST / Helljumper's, at roughly one platoon of marines. On top of this, we do know that each ship has several Pelican dropships, and the Marathon alone has 24 GA-TL1 Longswords. If UNSC forces were able to board atleast one of the Covenant ships and capture it, it would be a great victory for the UNSC. If you disagree with me, I'd be happy to know what you all think.

Well, here’s what I think. (Btw, idk if you know this, but the white ship is the CAS assault carrier, it sounds condescending, I just don’t want any confusion is all) The CAS ALONE has 700 pulse laser turrets, these are responsible for taking out archer missiles so it would be extremely easy to take out the combined archer missiles of the Halcyon and Marathon, maybe even against the entire fleet. Not to mention the CAS has 24 plasma torpedo turrets, I mean, covenant frigates only have 2 plasma torpedo turrets and one of them was able to turn a Super MAC (which I would say is equal to a UNSC cruiser in volume and thus durability) into a floating ball of molten metal. Furthermore, the CAS has 2 energy projectors which could easily destroy Marathon in a single shot. (If technically has 3 energy projectors, but one is more for glassing while the other 2 are used as anti capital ship weaponry I would say) Seriously, the CAS assault carrier would not need the other 2 CCS battlecruisers. It’s still completely one sided if we only take the CAS into account. But, I have to say, it’s a lot more even if it was only the CCS battlecruisers. Which I think the covenant would still mop the floor with the UNSC battlegroup shown in the video. I mean, a single CCS battlecruiser alone has 16 plasma torpedo silos, 48 plasma cannons, 50 pulse lasers and one ship to ship energy projector. It might get overwhelmed by the sheer number of archer missiles and MACs, but it would cripple the UNSC fleet, if not, then outright destroy it. If the ODSTs and marines tried to board, I’m sorry, I love the ODSTs and the marines, but they have absolutely no chance of winning. Each CCS has 4000 grunts and jackals along with 2500 elites, as well as 250 elite majors (and each major is able to take out a squad of marines), not to mention the CAS has enough troops to capture an entire city, which is probably tens of thousands of covenant troops (Halopedia says that the CAS carries 40,000 covenant troops). There is no way they can board successfully, not without Spartans.

Hmm. Captain, I noticed a huge flaw in this simulation. Covenant ships are known to use Plasma Torpedoes at ranges outside of their Plasma Lance and point defense pulse laser turret range. Is there anything on Space Engineers that can simulate their plasma torpedoes; which the Covenant used like the UNSC's missiles in this simulation

The ship ratio was 5:1 at the beginning of the war. It went down to 3:1 after humanity picked up tactics to beat the covenant.

15 frigates, 6 Halcyon class Light Cruisers, 4 Marathons, 2 Valiants, an Epoch class carrier (if you can find one) acting as flagship. That should be adequate... and Longswords lots of longswords...
