You can cut those bra cups in pieces and make a custom cup with a triple zigzag stitching, just be mindful of where the seams lay. You would enjoy Beverly Johnson's bra and swimwear instructions (she has dvds and is on a crafting site). Personally I went all in learning bra making because I was tired of spending so much for my 34 G size. Making your own lets you choose your silhouette and support and brings so many more options with strapless styles...plus it's just fun if you like to garment sew!

My Beverly Johnson swim suit pattern just arrived. Kind of expensive due to no PDF version offered & shipping from Canada, but she is highly recommended in sewing circles. I'm going to start my project this weekend. So fed up with RTW suit shopping. Being tall & full busted it's always been a challenge. The pandemic made it worse! Looking forward to a better fitting future. Just might try this cami too.

Probably a silly thought......but how thick is the rubber from washing up gloves compared to the clear elastic....would it be possible to cut strips of that????!!! (Found a couple of gloves where the finger tips have broken earlier today and it set me thinking!)
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
The rubber gloves do not have the firmness and durability that clear elastic has. I would not use rubber in sewing at all. It’ll disintegrate and snap over time.

Really liked learning how to do this tank. Being full busted I have been very hesitant to try them. Do you think adding some light boning at the sides would cut down on my bust pushing out on the sides? That's an issue for me and the bra I wear has boning at the sides to keep my bust supported to the front. Also, is it possible for us to send you the wider elastic tape that you need? If so I'd be happy to send you some. For all that I've learned from you for free, that is the least I could do for you! Thank you so much for everything!
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I’d love to add boning on the sides but I don’t have any. For sure it would improve the look and support. For now I’m happy with this, it’s not a full on bra after all 😀. No worries about the bra straps. I found a shop here that sells them in many Colors and 3/4” is also very good :)
@kathyzdrill73002 жыл бұрын
Hi Karina, amazing video. The part where you've sewn the clear elastic options, you say you moved the elastic over the serged seam slightly, and I've watched several times to see exactly what you mean, but I'm not quite certain. any chance you could explain a bit further? this is exactly what I want to do so my lining is tucked under and not visible...thanks so much!!
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
The clear elastic is moved away from the serged edge by about 1/8” so that inner edge of the elastic overpasses the inner edge of the serged area.

Genius with the bra cups!! I am super excited to try this out. I've been pining for a supportive cami that covers the front of the boobs. We rode horses for miles in the summer and it is so hot and uncomfortable to wear an under wire plus a cami. I hate wearing a top that shows my bra hoping this will be my answer! Can you tell me what brand the cups are? All I can find are those thick ones, and they are too small anyway.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
I apologise but I purchase locally no brand supplies, so I really can’t give you a brand. They are not too thick.
@barbf86282 жыл бұрын
Question: what if one did NOT stitch the sides of the bra to the top? Do you think it would be as supportive or not? Yay or nay?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
The sides of the bra are not sewn to the sides of the top. The bra is only sewn to the neckline on the top.

Hi, Thank you for your video. Your cup technique will make me a very happy swimwear wearer, this year. We've always had a curious relationship with "simwear" in my country. The quotation marks are there to differentiate between competitive swimsuits, whilst they are what they are, they are perhaps not the most attractive on the beach. They are just that you swim in them very fast, in all respects they are somewhat alike. Then we have the "swimwear" that you wear to the beach, or the pool and what not For a very long time there were only the choices of wearing a full swimsuit without any bust support, or the triangular-fabric-pieces-and-some-string bikinis. The full swimsuit option worked for me for a short while, then either my torso got longer or the standardized measurements gave them a shorter torso. My body doesn't fit into a swimsuit like that. As for the triangles set, well I would wear one of those but only if that was The. Only Way. To. Save. My. Life. There exists no other ways to get me into one of those. Not in this body and not at this age. Luckily I was a reasonable frequent visitor of the US, where you can get any type of beachwear (shall we call it that? It's save on quotation marks) easily. I used to buy my beachwear there. My favorite ones are the tankini. The ones I was buying would have god bust support, and a proper length. Around 10-15 years my country caught up with the idea that tankinis seem to sell, so they should make them available to the buyers here too. Something that wasn't available here of course was the bust support. The people that came up with selling tankinis, had never really looked at one to see what the fuss was about. So now they were basically making camis and tank tops from beachwear fabrics with some different panties as a set. Then someone must have made the connection that not all ladies have the same measurements for the top and the bottom. So there bikinis with coordinated panties in different styles reached our market. The tankini apparently tanked (sorry, I just couldn't help myself) I travel much more seldom to the US and my beachwear are starting to fall apart. I've come to the conclusion that If I get going on the sewing, some beach wear will be on my to do list. I should start that project very soon, so that I have beachwear for wintering in Costa Rica, like my husband and I have been talking about lately. This is where you, and this video comes in. Like you I've only just have had to remove the foam cups. Until now I've speculated on getting a nice bra, and drape some (likely the very finest) neoprene on it and take it from there. And here you are with this ingenious idea to get the insert there. I'm so grateful to have had this in my KZbin flow today. I have a couple of question if you don't mind me asking? What is the strong mesh you're mentioning and what does is its purpose? What does it do for you that make you want to work with it? Before I got this in my feed today i've been contemplating taking a cheap corset from amazon and build one on the outside, and having a boned tankini, then take it to the shop that said that tankinis don't work anymore, so they get to see a seriously built bikini top, and some very high rise panties. A boned tankini in either a very goth or steam puky fabric (Most likely neoprene) or a very sweet and romantic pattern. They had some seriously sweet neoprene and swimwear fabrics on Minerva. If you check out Minerva.co.uk you should be able to find them. If you or someone in your comments don't know of Minerva. it's in Great Britain, and they ship. To Europe where I live perhaps 3-4 working days. Then it's stuck in customs, but if I handle that right I will have my fabric in my stash in around 1 week. They are deducting the British VAT and then you will pay whatever your country's VAT or sales instead. Again a thank you again for this video. With it you've made my a bit brighter, which I desperately need at this time of my health. Yous, Ann
@annlidslot82124 ай бұрын
Hej är du från mitt land du med? (Are you from my country too?) I think you are describing the beachwear situation here too. I also used to bring back tankinis from the US. I too don't go as often anymore and my beach wear for the seaside are running ragged. I'm no sewist even if I have the accouterments to actually sew, so I have been thinking about making me some myself some. Any day now. if not in this century so surely the next one the one after the next. It might happen. This video is such starting point and she does it seems too intimidating hearing Ms. Pinsand-Needles talking about it. Vänligen (Yours), Ann
