I hope you will show the sewing process on this channel as I have never made a sports bra, but would like to do so. I need the power fabric as I am a 1X and would like to have the underbust come down to my waist to smooth out some of my lumps and bumps!! LOL I am looking forward to seeing how they are sewn together. I can't use an all elastic strap as my bust is to large and would just bounce alot which is very uncomfortable for me. Good luck sewing them!!

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but the strappy ones are pretty supportive if you do put elastic in the straps. One benefit of these is you can move them a bit so they don't cut into your traps - it distributes the load a bit? They're also easier to get on and off. Also if you play racket sports, i wouldn't add more coverage on the shoulder blades. I guess it depends on your planned use. For running I also like Greenstyle's Endurance but you may have problems finding the cut and sew foam. Finally, you can cut bra clasps off of old worn out bras and reuse them.

Thanks for this. I was tester for Porcelynne Laurel sports bra. With a 28H/I bust it is hard to find small band large cup patterns, and all Porcelynne's patterns are excellent. Her size range is better than most I have many of same patterns as you in my want to make pile. Interesting to compare Chile/Australia supplies issues. It's only in the last few months that I've been able to get hold of wicking sports performance knits, and finally found a foam cup (size 22 sister sizing) that fits me, so I am ready to go.

I don’t think that type of seam is strong enough to hold the tension of a garment with negative ease like a sports bra. It only uses three threads….

I've made the Alpha bra/tank as a swimsuit top and I added cups into it. Once you make the bra part it's a breeze to add the tank/dress part to it. I was able to find coloured elastic on Amazon so I used three different colours for the thin straps. It looks amazing and fits great. Highly recommended.

I, too, have been planning to make my own bras. I have a few patterns to try but the one I want to attempt first is the Endurance bra by Greenstyle. It has the front zipper opening and foam lined cups. For me, it will be an easier bra to put on as I don’t care for pulling them over my head . The purchased ones that I currently wear have two inch elastic cross bands in the back and I step into them. They are very comfortable but very pricey. Greenstyle also has great patterns for making matching panties as well. Looking forward to your videos!
@39houndsteps2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karina. I will be watching very closely. I too have just started on making sports bra /built -in bras. I need to work on fit. It’s nice to see you have most of the fit considerations I do (armhole coverage, back coverage, bust fit). I tried the 5 out of 4 resolution pattern (random choice) which may have been a bad choice because the armhole coverage was really low on me, although it didn’t look too bad in all the pictures. Wrong size? Wrong style? Possibly. Anyways I have gone in and adjusted the pattern. But maybe I will wait for your adventures first. I may jump to another pattern. Also, I am glad you bought out the mesh at the end. I was getting REALLY concerned about enough support when you were only talking about 2 layers😖

LOVE your POV on this topic. HOWEVER, Ms. Love Notions … Summer basics and Luna lounge wear are two patterns I've used for camisoles w shelf bras and even hacked the summer basics for a sports bra. I'm sure you already have these patterns. ❣️❣️❣️
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t include them because they don’t have an offical bra in the pattern. I see the Luna bralette as more of a lounge type that I’d need to tweak a lot for it to be a sports bra :)

When I was 12-13 I made my own bra based on one worn by my sister, 8 yrs older. Cotton muslin with pink bias tape straps, triangular elastic between the cups and adjustable hooks and eyes! Cup size was negligible. That was in the early 1970s. 😂
@sewlovemydogs2 жыл бұрын
I’m only some of the way through your post but wanted to say, for myself and so I imagine for other full busted ladies it’s important to choose a pattern that also gives good coverage along the side of the bra from the armpit so that not only giving the breast support at the front but keeping ‘things’ nicely supported and a lovely smoothie outline. Patterns 1 and 3 appear to take care of this beautifully whereas the 2nd pattern not so much! Hope you don’t mind me saying, flabby bits poking out is a pet peeve of mine 😂😂😂
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
I’m aware of the coverage issue and I want nice cover too but I don’t see that as a reason to not sew a bra. We can customise and make changes and I do plan to do so as needed, as with any other garment I sew :)
