+Phyllis Arrington I agree! When you live with someone who's taste is-to put it politely- over the top then it's always a miserable battle of styles! I had a friend of mine move into my home twice (when he was evicted) and each time I had to fight to keep him from turning my home (as my friend put it) into a "chamber of horrors." He was only there long enough to save enough money to find another place, it wasn't even his PERMANENT home, yet he fought to impose HIS style over mine. Since the house is HER house she is likely under the assumption that he is just gonna accept her current decor...WRONG! This guy clearly has a strong, "take charge" personality and it's clear his taste for the bizarre hasn't changed one bit. I have my serious doubts that any kind of an "in between" compromise is gonna be reached once he moves into her home and it becomes THEIR home. Either she accepts him turning her home into a carbon copy of what he formerly had, or I give this relationship no more than six months.

Ha! "brown and cream" is sort of what I was thinking to make it sell LoL :) Remove all the carpets and replace with one continuous wood floor, paint all of the walls off white, and all of the trim and baseboards should be wood toned like they are in the entry room. Maybe update a few things like fireplace and kitchen/bath fixtures, and remove the frilly millwork on the exterior, but otherwise leave it be. Show it with no furnishings to make it as much of a blank canvas as possible. If they were to show off just the bones of the house, without the mishmash of patterns and colors, I think it would appeal to more ppl.

And I'm going to guess that others are thinking the exact same thing and that's adding to the long sell time. I don't care how nice the house is, if the amount of bathrooms to bedrooms is off, I'm not buying. 3 bedrooms and up should, in my opinion, always have a half bath at least. Venetian plaster has actual marble dust in it, and as used originally, it was burnished to a smooth, hard gloss. It can actually look like marble. (Be careful. It makes your trowel SHARP. I've cut myself pretty badly.) People starting doing weird, technicolor, lumpy things with plaster in the 80s and 90s, and now they think that any ploppy, roughed-up plaster is "Venetian" plaster.
