Most of these pens are entry level use and through type pens here in India, selling at 0.15$ to 1.5$ per piece. Reynolds is a French brand manufactured here. Rorito is an erstwhile Reynolds, but due to collaboration issues changed brand name. All the brands discussed here have atleast 20 models with prices ranging from $0.2 (Rs 10) to $20 (Rs 1500). Luxor ( not discussed here) manufactures Parker pens and also markets Waterman. They have their own brand pens. There are a few small scale private manufactures mostly concentrating on quality fountain pens like Ratnam, Rangan and Vality(Airmail) Ultimately the performance any pen greately depends on the quality of the refill and its cozy fit with body. Have a great experience with Indian pens.

Fellow indian here, the oily or sticky- ness of the indian ball point pens goes away over time providing a better grip and is there for people with sweaty hand as far as I know

First of all, thank you. Reynolds 045 pens can be found in the USA and Europe under the brand Papermate (045). Both Paper Mate and Reynolds are Newell brands. However, they are excellent pens in relation to the affordable price.

My personal favorite is this Hauser XO as well and I just love the way it writes! You could also test out some Gel ink pens from Flair, ADD, etc. and make a cool video like this again. Pens in India are like in crazy varieties and myself being an enthusiast, I've been collecting them since childhood and still love doing so. Great to see you liking Indian pens and also cheers to both of our personal fav XO! :D

I got some India-made pens like Linc and Flair out of curiosity. They are good, actually. Needle tips and low viscosity oil-based inks are popular in India for some reason. Also, I think Hauser and Pierre Cardin pens are made by Flair, including Pierre Cardin fountain pens and inks, I guess, budget fountain pens are also a thing there.

I really appreciate you covering Indian pens, I was wondering if you could make a video about modding an Indian ballpoint refills into some nicer (preferably metal) pen bodies, that’d be awesome because the Indian ballpoints are really good writers from what I have experienced.

It's no wonder they have their own massive market now. The Indian education system is one of the largest in the world with more than 1.5 million schools, 8.5 million teachers and 250 million children, and that's not including all the other writers, adult education, people learning English for work etc.

As a pen enthusiast who hated writing for the most part of his life because of all the crap that is locally available here, it's surprising to see all these needle tip crap being reviewed. It is not simply that all the pens you have are needle tip - getting a good quality high viscosity ball point is impossible without paying a steep price. I never knew what a good ball point is before your suggestion of using Schimdt refills - which are also incredibly hard to acquire given only one dodgy seller sells online. I have tones of these pens that I had to use for the majority of my life and hated every bit of it. Getting good pens in India comes at a huge steep cost that 99.999 of the people don't bother with,

Hauser is really weird. As a German I didnt know about the brand until you made a video about one of their Indian pens a while back. I looked them up an in Germany you are only able to buy from them directly in big amounts. They seem to only play the market for giveaway pens for companies who want their brand name printed on. So nothing fancy at all. Dont know if the brand name was sold to India anything else. The pens you showed arent available from their German website though.

Great to see that Indian pens are getting some attentions. Here are somethings which may help you if you want to find out more about Indian pens. Most of the pens there are ball pens because most of gel pens here are not great. Most of them have needle tip and are not smooth at all. And for some reasons they are very sensitive, they start to right inconstantly. One to the popular gel pen in India is Classmate Octane gel. But i don't like the way it writes. For fountain pens, there are lots of handmade fountain pen brands in India which I think they should have its own category. But for factory made pens, you may look into Camlin Kakuyo Trinity and Camlin Elegante which are proper budget fps in India. Then there are some new metal series pens from a brand called Apsara and the series is called Metallo. They are full metal pens but cost less than 1$ US in India (60-70 Rs) but they are good for the price. But i guess they will be hard to get outside India. Linc Majesta series pens marketed as gift or premium pens and similarly Cello have their Signature series pens. Pierre cardin too have premium/gift pens but for me they are more like jewelry type of pens, they look good but that all. And also they are not that high quality(not all though). Then there are some pens you may want to look into, Cello gripper : Similar to Pentel RSVP Cello butterflow : Have 0.9-1mm nib with hybrid ink. I do hope you enjoy using at least some of those pens

I hate all the pens i can buy from the market here, hate hate hate needle tips. It's actually so hard to get a high viscosity ball point. There is only one seller in the whole country that sells Schimdt refills online and they are dodgy. All the low cost pens write so bad, I cannot reiterate enough how terribly I hate these pens.

Hi! I really liked your video! I'm a pen enthusiast myself and if you really wanna try some more indian pens, i recommend the Reynolds Lubriglide. It costs about ₹20 ($0.26) here in India and since you mentioned jetstream, I have uses both and found that the Lubriglide is actually much better than the uni jetstream. It's got a rubber grip, but I don't think it's slippery or oily. The only con I can think of is that the pen is almost too smooth for me. Do check it out, if you can. Cheers!

Surprised not to see any add gel and flair carbonix, Montex, Papercraft and any fountain pen (there are tons fp are being producing in India). Rorito and Raynolds are basically same company Originally US origin but now became fully Indian, for some issues they changed the name rorito. The jettek or jetter model comes in lots of body design and materials.

Cello is now owned by BIC. Reynolds here the same American Reynolds company currently is owned by Papermate. You missed the local uniball that we have been swearing our school lives....its called Mitsubishi UNI SA-R. A very reliable pen with an old gen of jetstream ink. The company that used to make Raynolds brand now makes Rorito brand. Currently Flair is the OEM for Raynolds. The Jottek was JETTER. The iconic Jotter of India.

Hi Unsharpen and all pen enthusiasts! I'm trying to find my perfect pen and hoping for some recommendations... Currently I use a Uni Jetstream Standard .38mm because I love the small nib size and the quality of the ink. However, I'd like to find a nicer body that was attractive and also slim/ thin/ sleek/ lightweight etc. I'd consider anything from the lower range - e.g., Uniball One F or Jetstream Prime - up to the higher end pens. Anyone know of something that might fit this brief? Also any cool/ unique pens that might be worth checking out? Cheers! ETA: While I love the Uni Jetstream Edge, I find they way I hold it cuts into my fingers so it is ruled out. The Jetstream Prime is also ruled out for being a bit too heavy.

@@unsharpen AFAIK there seem to be three main types of indian fountain pens: the dirt cheap thin plastic pens, the $15-50 hand-turned pens, and the $150+ pens from brands that focus on making entirely custom pens to order. FPRevolution is an US-based indian pens retailer that sells plenty of the second type. Ranga and Guider seem to enjoy good reputation, and make sure to check out some pens with Kanwrite nibs (At least a normal nib + an "ultra flex" nib). There's also Gama, Click, Ratnam, etc... As with everything handmade there might be some need for tuning, cleaning, getting in touch with the seller, etc... At least FPRevolution seems to bolster a good record in regards to consumer support. FYI: Kanwrite also sells their own pens, but everyone says they smell really really badly.
