The next game in the Solo Hero Series is Unstoppable, and based on our attempts to win, it just might literally be that! And we say "our attempts" because this can also be played as a 2-player co-op, and just might be where it really shines. Are you ready for this Sci-Fi card-crafting boss-battler? Spoiler Alert: we weren't. 😅
Check the game out, as we break it down to help give you an idea of what it's like and how it plays.

I’m really interested in this. John D. Clair is definitely one of my favorite designers as well. Thanks for the preview.

You and me both! He's also a machine when it comes to putting out games. He really deserves more attention in the "great designers" conversation.

Oh dear lord, I enjoy anything John designs. Guess I need to increase my new game budget! Seems very reminiscent of Edge of Darkness, which is crazy good. Except a sci-fi theme, which I definitely like! I’d love to see a play through!

The way the cards are both threats and usable cards definitely gives off some Edge of Darkness vibes. This game though is lightning fast, and the flow is very rewarding. Still haven't beaten it, but going to try until I do.

There’s a play through on another channel that’s pretty good, just can’t recall the name of the channel at this moment.

They are! Some of the card crafting games in the past have felt bulky and cloudy at times, but this is really sharp. Plus I just dig the shapes of the cards.

This looks really interesting. Only played Dead Reckoning from him and enjoy that a lot and this looks like it could be just as good

This is a much more streamlined experience, and mostly shares just the card crafting, but yeah, you'll probably dig this. You should also look into some of his others - the list is huge!

So looking forward to every bit of news and your live plays for this game! I own most of the John D Clair collection and am a huge fan of the card crafting! Looking forward to this update to the Edge of Darkness enemy upgrades as you upgrade the cards thing. It's a fun part of Edge. Definitely keep us posted... and if you need a third or fourth one day to try higher player counts, you know where to shine the player signal!

David, if you'd like to try this one out, maybe we can bring it over the FTG for a spin.

I keep coming back to this video like every day - this game looks so awesome! How annoying is taking things in and out of the sleeves for set up and tear down? That seems like it could be a pretty big negative

Minimal in my opinion, as someone who loves dead reckoning and edge of darkness. The games excite me so much that those things don't matter to me

Why is this a Kickstarter when the designer has proven to design good sellers in retail? Seems odd to me that a publisher like AEG wouldn't just invest in a Clair design without crowdsourcing?

You could say that about every CMON or awaken realm game. This is the hobby that we, backers, have produced.

KS and Gamefound also give games a higher profile as many people are not aware when a game goes to retail relative to these distribution channels.

Probably because they can make more money and perhaps also to have more premium components as the orders will be known. Often when kickstarters fail to deliver, folks often complain "kickstarter is not a preorder sytem" ... but in this case it essentially is!

I think it is way safer for the publisher to go to Kickstarter first. They get to know how many they need to produce to satisfy demand. They get the money up front, before people have played it/know if they like it (especially true with those campaigns that sell multiple expansion packs up front - way more lucrative for the publisher that way). And they also cut out the retail middleman selling straight to the consumer thus earning them more money on every unit sold. Kickstarter is kind of a no brainer way to go as far as I can see.

Good video, always glad to be able to learn about a Kickstarter game in more like 10 minutes than 40 minutes. This game looks like it wants to get ahead of you, like a normal hard-to-win single-player or cooperative game. Stuff like your turns starting to fizzle out with you getting further and further behind. My favorite single-player game is actually Magic the Gathering, with a couple decks that snowball into ridiculous 10+ minute turns that I play with no opponent. And I prefer to play Dominion the same way (though that's admittedly not fun for the other players). I can handle a bit of a learning curve, but I want the experience to mostly be like that. There's a glimmer of maybe chaining actions together in this game. Is it like that?

there is nothing roguelite about this game mechanic. To put that term on your board game box is erosion of an already unclear term. Roguelite = Roguelike lacking permadeath and a few other criteria from the Berlin interpretation, but must have carry-over progression. There is no progression here. You might as well call a car a bicycle, because it has an even number of wheels.
