Despite the fact that the Stanton Curve scene is unrealistic, it still sends chills up my spine every time I see it!
@Red_Bull22 жыл бұрын
It’s not unrealistic at all actually, the reason the independent is snapping the train back on is back the slack in the train is doing most of the work. The weight of the back end is pulling the train back on when slams the independent.
@06382 жыл бұрын
@@Red_Bull2 wouldn't it just deraill bc of how heavy the train is on its side
@lennoxschannel74842 жыл бұрын
@@0638 No, the fraction and the speed would likely derail it, but the brake force can definitely hold it back.
@Red_Bull22 жыл бұрын
@@0638 No because your forgetting that gravity works in more than one way. First off the there is friction in the rails, that holding the wheels on. The wheels spinning creates a force that holds them on called centripetal force. And finally because the train is pulling and not pushing, there is slack in between each car. So when he applies the independent break is pulls that slack and then it springs back, pushing the train through the curve.
@rmgilyard Жыл бұрын
No because the force of the independent on 1206 and the cars is strong enough to hold back 777’s weight.

As much as this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine, I can't believe they were able to call this "based on a true story" when almost nothing that happened in his movie even resembles the real-life incident. -Nobody actually died, nor were any train cars or an engine destroyed. -There is no such thing as Stanton or the Stanton Curve, which is actually part of the Bellaire viaduct on a private rail line. -Adding to that, the real-life site used for the curve never had fuel tanks below the tracks because...common sense? If this movie just wrapped up like a usual action movie I would have no problem with it, but then they try to tell you what happened to the characters at the end of the movie as if they have real-life equivalents just seems really misleading. Hell, the name of the offending train engineer was never even officially made public.

I love this movie so much but I can’t help but find a few goofs that slipped in. Right at the end of this clip you can see an aerial shot of 777. If you look at the very back of the train, 1206 is nowhere to be seen. This is because the train was apparently never fully put together when filming, there would only be certain segments put together as most of the shots only end up showing one part of the train. The unfortunate case with this shot was that it was meant to show the full train. To the average viewer they probably wouldn’t even notice, one would really have to be paying attention.
