Synth player's in another, parallel universe, and I mean that in an extraordinarily good way. The band rocks.

He’s really cool. His name is Drew Zaremba and he’s now the professor of jazz arrangement at the university of northern Colorado. He’s written some pretty stellar charts himself.

I've been attending these concerts for almost 20 years now, and this is the first time I've ever seen the 1 o'clock receive a standing ovation after the 1st set. Very much deserved, too.

THE BEST COLLEGE JAZZ BAND EVER!!! Been listening to them since back in the 50s when "The North Texas State College Jazz Band" played at the High School Stage Band Contest in Brownwood, TX.... Guess that makes me an old codger BUT a happy one just being able to see and hear this awesome band whenever I get the urge for some top-notch jazz....

Nice lick, but the second tenor at 2:57 - talk about an outstanding descending line, melodic, and even lowered his volume with the descent!! Awesomeness.

The arrangement was written by Thad Jones. It was originally recorded by Jimmy Smith on his PORTUGUESE SOUL album, accompanied by an uncredited Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra.

The uncanny thing is all these guys are playing with discipline and the artistic creativity and genius that matches and surpasses an actual hot concert of cannibal Adderley and the jazz greats of the past and present. And North Texas State came up with that program that closely matched that discipline and beyond that creative geniuses have done in the past and or will in the future. Thank you U. North Texas State and all the great music colleges and teachers all over planet Earth that have made this place a better place to be and live. ❤️

Human beings in general are intelligent enough, if given information in a slow, deliberate, consistent, reliable, truthful, factful, based on science, reason and comment sense, logistics information, quality control and empathy to produce the best quality products for the greater good. People can learn life sustaining and emergency and other information, and activities in one week's time compared to other wise unended years of blissful ignorance, contempt, greed, psychological, emotional or spiritual contempt, emptiness, and no end in sight.

Garrett doesn't even live in Denton any more. Andrew Duncan is on bari sax now. Garrett got his Master's from UNT and that's when he was on bari sax. Unless he's come back to get his doctorate (which I doubt he wants to), he is definitely not going to be in the One O'Clock.

@TylerMireMusic
@TylerMireMusic 5 жыл бұрын
This chart was transcribed by Brett McDonald and Thomas Davis around 2009/2010. Jay asked me to tack on an ending, which I took from the end of "Greetings and Salutations" (another Thad Jones' chart) but had to transpose to be in this key. The original version of this ends with a board fade.

Lol that keyboard player is lucky that his mini "solo" sounded good towards the end. Nonetheless, wonderful job to everyone and all the soloists. I believe the little trombone battle perfectly represents all trombonists: Goofy. Talented, but goofy. And they know how to have some fun.
