Joseph is an author and entrepreneur who was born and raised in the Brabants village of Raamsdonksveer. At age 16 he started his HBO Information Technology study and four years later became one of the youngest IT engineers from the Netherlands. After establishing his own IT company, during a trip abroad, his life would change forever during a bizarre chain of events...

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

"Be the leader of your own life!" Thank you, Joseph, for your powerful message. It is impressive what you did when you experienced this nightmare. Not giving up but inspiring others was such a wonderful gift to yourself and to those around you. "Let life come to you like waves running the shore"....ahhhh! I am happy for you that you had such a courageous and strong mother! I am glad you are back - stronger than before. Thanks for being you!

Reminds me of the story of Joseph from the bible! Thank God for your tenacity and your mother's undying love! Without either, the world would have missed out on another soul with great potential!

I love so much about this talk, so much wisdom put so humbly, so simply, with plain humanity (I dont know how to put it better). I dont have much to say but thank you. We all have our problems, I'm sure it'll put many of our problems into perspective. I have a strange problem that I keep trying to help people, improve things and get lots of trouble for doing it. There's a good chance I'll loose yet another job at another school trying to help my students learn while their parents sabotage their education (sounds strange, we humans are). Mmm... thanks again.

You are looser or winner no matter where you are. He was a winner in previous life and stayed that way. Quite a few of winning thought pattern he mentions: if it's to be - it's up to me, 3rd Newton law of motion as applied to human relationships, serving others to deal with his own distress, working in his circle of influence, express gratitude for everything you have, and many more. Person of such mindset does not stay in prison because we need them outside doing even more good. cheers reader!
