They did mention the rivalry has been going way before old Ukai and Nekomata became coaches. This all started when they were just kids 😅 it was just the 2 of them being rivals. That’s why Coach Nekomata teases young Ukai, because he looks like his grandpa when they were young (he mentions it in this episode). The teams get the lineup before they arrive to the tournament. Taketora and Tanaka are the Tiger vs Dragon, tora means Tiger and Tanaka’s name is Ryunosuke(Ryu=dragon). Nekoma’s team is represented by a cat but Inuoka(the hyper tall guy) is a dog(inu) lol the dog raised amongst cats 😂

I guess you guys already eps ahead.. so just gonna explain that "connect" is literally Nekoma's banner motto like "Fly" for Karasuno. Connect refers to connection of plays, means each other role/position in the team keep the ball from falling on the court and is align to their powerhouse style (strong defense), hence "The team that drop the ball loses". In this show, their banners is something fun yet deep to paying attention to.

and in this first match against Nekoma, their team players are 3 third-year, 3 second-year, and 1 first year.. unlike karasuno having 3 new regular members they have to work on their new formation, Nekoma is more stable in a sense of teamworks.

We noticed this! Def see why Nekoma’s defense is so good! They have a high focus on connecting and keeping the ball from falling. Also we didn’t know that about their team players - with Nekoma having more older players, it makes sense why they work so well together 🤔

2:29 To elaborate this, Coach Nekomata (Nekoma's coach) has described Kageyama and Hinata's duo as "oni (demon)" and "kanabo (iron club)" with the demon being Kageyama and Hinata as his iron club which he controls. He (and young Coach Ukai) then says in this part that if Hinata manages to have unique sets of skills that can be powered more by Kageyama, they won't be "oni and kanabo" (demon and his iron club) no more, instead, both of them will be a pair of "oni" (demons).

You guys are definitely onw of my new fave reaction channels, its been 84 years since the last time i saw somebody watch and react to Haikyuu!! The beloved sports anime of the early 2000s😭! I just wanted to say that i love your reactions to Haikyuu, you guys are pretty accurate with your theories and guesses so far lol. Also wanted to say that you should watch the openings/endings, i promise, all of them are bangers. The only swries that has actually ALL good openings for me😂
