I found out that the water pump and valve cover gaskets on my is300 started leaking. In this video I'll cover how to replace them and share some tips and tricks for doing it on your own car. Dealing with timing components seems a bit scary when you've never done one before but don't let that stop you. As long as you have a reliable repair manual and do your research beforehand you should be able to get through it with no problems!

If know how or know a friend that knows how to change the timing belt then it would’ve been a lot cheaper but it’s cheaper to let the shop do it than for me to buy all the tools to get the job done or to make mistakes along the way and mess up the engine then it would cost me more to replace the whole engine

Great video man, really appreciate it! Question, what gap do you use on your plugs and what would happen if I used the "dot" instead of the "line" to time my car?
@RotaryDaddy
@RotaryDaddy 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! If you got factory plugs they should be pre gapped to spec for a stock engine (about 1.1mm or .043in) Make sure you have the right timing marks, not having it timed right could make the car not run and you run the risk of bending valves.

Just had the timing belt serviced. Purchased a timing belt kit which included the tensioners, water pump, serpentine drive belt, gates racing timing belt, etc. The mechanic completed the job and the car now makes a tapping sound. Mechanic says that maybe something is rubbing with the timing belt cover but it doesn’t make sense. I’ve seen a few videos out there that have experienced the same issue but there is no answer. By any chance would you happen to have an idea of what the issue could be? Much appreciated. The mechanic will be taking the cover apart and see if it noise goes away. I’ll post an update once that happens.

If you're going that far in (including the valve cover gaskets) you may as well get some cams (and a cam gear) and lash your valves too. Seriously, there is no better time to do this. OH yeah, and your front main seal. literally just do these together, you'll thank me later
