Unusual ladder truck and other fire engines rush to a house fire in Edinburgh in '21 🚒

An unusual Turntable ladder vehicle, for the UK, turns out for a house fire with several other fire engines in Edinburgh, in 2021. Multiple fire appliances attended and quickly knocked down the fire; nothing much more to show here.
What made this vehicle unusual was that it had no platform for firefighters to stand on, and had four doors. This is fairly common around the world but not in the UK, where all modern aerial appliances have a platform, and most, but not all, only have two doors. Aye, its 25 years old so due for retirement. I wonder if it will get moved to a reserve fleet due to it being a ladder type which are not so common in the UK.

Interesting. In American firefighting, “ladder trucks” (without platform) and “tower trucks” (with platform) are mostly considered two completely different things, with ladder trucks being a staple that are used pretty much everywhere as heavy/technical rescue units, and tower trucks being the specialized aerial/highrise units that would only be found in areas that require those operations. At the most fundamental level, fire departments are divided up into engine and truck companies, with “truckies” having their own subculture. Is it much different in the UK?

@@Lorcinaji Everything is different in the US! I don`t mean that to be disrespectful...but you could probably write a novel on the differences between US firefighting and how things are done in the rest of the world ☺

@@fireenginefan111 I’ve no doubt, but I looked it up and it doesn’t seem very different regarding this specific topic. It just sounds like the UK uses “rescue tender” vehicles where the US uses “ladder trucks”.

@@Lorcinaji I would need to write a novel to answer this 🤣 Just be aware that `rescue tenders` are also used in the US. The main difference is that the aerial appliances in the US carry rescue gear...I don`t believe that to be the case in the UK.

Standard practise back in the day, aerials had a crew of 4- 6; an OIC, base controller, firefighter on the ladder and the last few firefighters did hose connections

Before buckets/platforms became standard practice that's how they were. One benefit is that you can help multiple people down the ladder without having to bring it back down again. Some even had branches fixed to the end of them

Nice catches! Would you be able to tell me what kind of camera you were using for these clips? I love the night quality on it. My camcorder tends to expose for the brightest flashes which makes most of the video extremely dark, and there's no way to change that on the fly unfortunately. I've been wanting to look at a different camera, and that night quality of yours is awesome

Cheers! This is the Sony AX700. I've found it performs much better at night than other camcorders, really pleased with it. Had it 3 years now and using other camcorders, but still return to this in low light, when dealing with flashing light and when looking for crisper quality.
