Nope. Never seen or heard of this model. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you eventually see something else. I like it and really enjoyed watching you service it. Thanks Dennis. 👍👍

I miss my blue 720. Several years ago I collected all new parts housing, rotor cup,side plate internal parts. The oscillating block and knob were hardest to find. Put it together and it fished great. No bearing to worry about. I put it on Ebay and boy did I get burned. Someone out there got one heck of a deal. I recently finished a 716 Greenie put together with all new old stock parts including the drag knobs which are bleach white instead of yellowed out white. I'm not letting that one go.. Thanks Dennis!

My first Penn reel was the bronze colored 720 you have. I bought it new at a tackle shop in Nags Head NC in the 70's. I still have it and the Garcia Conolon rod i bought with it, sometimes fish with it

That is a nice set up. I am sure it catches as many fish today as it did when it was new. Thanks for sharing - Dennis

I have this reel but haven’t fished with it. I restored a beautiful 722Z a few years ago and have fished with it. The Z has a ball bearing while this Greenie has a bushing. This 720 Greenie is in the same series as the 704 Swirl side plate reels. I have two of those that I still use surf fishing. Those set screws can be an issue in these reels but not as bad as those in the old Mitchell 302. I like all the Penn Greenies and have 10 of them. These reels last and last unlike more modern reels that seem to be made with built in obsolescence. Great video Dennis! Scott, this is a beauty! - Chris

Hi Dennis, Interesting to see the "staple" holding the cross wind block. Haven't seen that before. Surprised how hard the old grease got ? Glad it's out and reeling smooth ! Nice reel indeed. Best Regards, Cons

Very similar to the dual pin that Mitchell used in some of their reels. I was surprised that it held tension and was firm in the slots

I had no clue they ever did anything but the greenies and the Z series. Based on the premium the greenies command on Ebay, the blue or bronze color spinfishers must be pretty darn expensive. I don't even want to think about how expensive a 716 ultralight would cost in the blue color.

I think the only ones in the blue or brown color were the 720s. I need to check more into that

What years were the Blue Reels? And what was the largest Blue Penn Spinning Reel made with the 2 fish logos?
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
These were made in the 1970s as an extension of the Greenies and before the Black and Gold Z series

Dennis, great video: I too have the exact same model Penn 720! I followed your procedure and everything came out except for the stop mechanism. I focused on your video approximately about 13:20 or so. Mine looks identical to what you have but the stop mechanism does not work properly. I think the stop block piece without the spring is moving; I am just not sure about the correct position. Any suggestions? Maybe replacement parts? I don’t really need to fix this reel but I think I have had it for about 50 years. Lol

John - here is a link to the schematic for the reel. You can also order parts from the site. Unfortunately, if the stop block is broken, you will either need to glue/weld it in place (JB Weld or one) or you will need to replace the side case. www.mysticparts.com/Assets/images/pennparts/schematics/720z.pdf The schematic shows the orientation of the dog and spring assembly Thanks for asking
