The strangest crossing I've ever seen is still in Germany where a railway track goes straight through a roundabout and a few junctions close to it. Now I see (ignoring the barriers) some ways to safely hit the sideway without any danger to be caught by the train, yet I do have the feeling that still locking down the entire junction was the best way to go here.

Indeed. The angle at which the side road meets the main road and the position of the track would confuse drivers and potentially cause trouble if it weren't for that extra barrier, not to mention as sighting for that extra set of lights in the crossing across the track isn't brilliant when emerging. The crossing you mentioned definitely sounds like a very strange and complex set-up!

There are also at least two crossings here in the US that are on roundabouts, one of which is in Florida and also is where two legs of a wye meet. The other one I've filmed and is on the Sandersville Railroad in Sandersville, GA.

We've still got a manned crossing where we live which is surrounded by houses. Pretty sure there are Klaxons on the posts but they don't sound. This would drive me nuts if I lived there. It must surely be the only crossing with open fronted buildings within the barriered off space?

Great video! Funnily enough, I'd just recently filmed one of the gated three-way crossings in my area myself, lol. There definitely ain't many crossings on intersections in the UK, I've noticed, and probably rightfully so. Nice to see another video of this one though. Also, looks like the gate mechs there recently got replaced?

@@greatbritainlevelcrossings8149 You can see trains heading into the docks from Northam Junction before the crossing activates, but you'll need to keep a close eye on 'Southampton Eastern Docks' on Realtime Trains for trains leaving the docks.

There's no way the alarms need to be screeching banshees to this extent, even with the wind. Spoils the ambiance of this town. If every lightpost had an alarm (even the one at 6:25 - which I believe you say does NOT have one), then surely they could be a reasonable volume while still ensuring anyone on the tracks gets the hint. Point being, no matter where on the tracks you stand, you could hear an activated alarm.

my god did they ever choose the most annoying alarm ever, the North anerican one seems way better, and less intrusive, One of these crossings get put up in a neighbourhood and i bet housing prices drop the closer your house is to it

It isn’t annoying they are different in most countries, they need a loud and annoying alarm bc it is a public highway
