I'm a big game nerd who was raised on PC gaming in the 90s/2000s, and Elon's adoption of twitter profile pics from Deus Ex (thinking he's the protagonist, a nano-augmented superspy, and one of his MANY desperate attempts to chase nerd clout) was hilarious. Because he doesn't realize he's a weaker version of the game's central villain: A tech bro who thinks he deserves to rule the world because he's made a lot of money. The main difference is Deus Ex's tech bro villain actually invented his gadgets, he didn't just buy them.

@@PeixeKing I think as a society we have to invent an off-ramp for people like Elon Musk. It's all fine and good to ruthlessly belittle him (and I do mean it is FINE and, in fact, GOOD), but eventually he's going to accidentally nuke Earth while trying to nuke Mars or accidentally impregnate the wrong employee, and that's when the fun stops, you know? He can't de-escalate, because it will delight everyone who hates him, and meanwhile, all the love he gets for being a D list Ironman will evaporate. Maybe if we can find a way to humiliate him but be like, "hey my dude, you can stop all this, and we can totally be chill, go to Taco Bell, and laugh about this together." And then like, "I dug your Wario mustache." Just for good measure. The man needs a friend who will go with him to WalMars at 2am and push him around the regolith in a shopping cart for fun.

I think Jim Carrey is a fool in the classical sense; he claims to be self-aware while behaving as though he isn't, creating an extra layer of irony on top of whatever over-the-top character he's portraying. If he's doing that by accident then he's just one of those natural clowns we get in each generation. But if he's doing it intentionally, then he's a comedic genius. And the fact that decades into his career we still can't tell if he's a genius or just a clown is a feat of clowning in and of itself.

For real! agreed! isn't the main cause of death when someone is set on fire asphyxiation/carbon monoxide poisoning, rather than the effects of the fire's heat? because using that method to try and kill undead, who presumably don't need to breathe, is... probably not going to be very effective, lmao

I actually prefer to think of Muskrat as a more specific type of filmic villain. See, Chinatown was supposed to be the first entry in a series of movies about real life corruption scandals in Southern California's history. It didn't really pan out that way that in the short term, and one of the scripts was repurposed for the _Who Censored Roger Rabbit_ film adaptation. (Unrelated, but out of nowhere, _The Two Jakes_ comes out in 1990, but we'll get back to that. For now, let's go back to _Who Framed Roger Rabbit.)_ In simplest terms, the plot involves deranged Toon-disguised-as-a-person, Judge Doom buying out public transportation and redlining minorities out of their homes to create a freeway. Meanwhile in present-day California, Muskowski's boring company digs a big fugoff one-lane wide hyper-inefficient tunnel with no ventilation that ostensibly doesn't meet any of the goals one might expect the project to have had. But that's because the goal wasn't to build an effecient-or even _functional_ tunnel. The goal was to win a a bid for a monetary allotment that would have otherwise been directed to public transportation infrastructure. The _real goal_ was to divert the funds that would have otherwise gone to mass transit, indirect competition for his Edison cars. So he wasted all the money digging a useless hole in the ground. *Ergo:* Dollarstore Ironman is the villain in the upcoming "Chinatown Cinematic Universe" film. (And quite possibly a deranged toon masquerading as a human.) _(Edit: KZbin tried to block this comment until I stopped spelling out his name lmao.)_

Hi Maggie. I legit first found out about you from your "A Better Way to Watch" video about the Star Wars Prequels on Cracked years ago. I loved the theory you presented so much that I showed my wife and my closest friends. My wife loved it too, to the point where when I was watching the recent Obi Wan Kenobi series we talked about how much the theory still worked with the way Obi Wan talked about Padme to Leia, including the way he sincerely mentions "seeing her mother's face" when he looks at her, as well as how when Leia asks if he is her real father he says "I wish I could say I was". So recently when I saw that you had a series of film theory videos I immediately knew I had to watch them. Truthfully it has been so interesting to see someone so much smarter than I am analyzing so many movies that I have seen and loved, often talking about perspectives I never considered or themes I never picked up on. Please keep doing what you are doing, I really appreciate just how much I have learned from all your videos so far. You have such a unique and insightful perspective.
