I'm a big game nerd who was raised on PC gaming in the 90s/2000s, and Elon's adoption of twitter profile pics from Deus Ex (thinking he's the protagonist, a nano-augmented superspy, and one of his MANY desperate attempts to chase nerd clout) was hilarious. Because he doesn't realize he's a weaker version of the game's central villain: A tech bro who thinks he deserves to rule the world because he's made a lot of money. The main difference is Deus Ex's tech bro villain actually invented his gadgets, he didn't just buy them.
@PeixeKing
@PeixeKing 2 жыл бұрын
Musk also said he likes Mr. Robot to chase nerd clout, although the series heavily criticizes everything he represents. He's also a much less talented and smart version of one of the serie's main antagonists.

@@PeixeKing I think as a society we have to invent an off-ramp for people like Elon Musk. It's all fine and good to ruthlessly belittle him (and I do mean it is FINE and, in fact, GOOD), but eventually he's going to accidentally nuke Earth while trying to nuke Mars or accidentally impregnate the wrong employee, and that's when the fun stops, you know? He can't de-escalate, because it will delight everyone who hates him, and meanwhile, all the love he gets for being a D list Ironman will evaporate. Maybe if we can find a way to humiliate him but be like, "hey my dude, you can stop all this, and we can totally be chill, go to Taco Bell, and laugh about this together." And then like, "I dug your Wario mustache." Just for good measure. The man needs a friend who will go with him to WalMars at 2am and push him around the regolith in a shopping cart for fun.

I've always been fascinated by Jim Carrey's own fascination with the Eggman role. It could've been just a throwaway role for him and instead he broke his own rule about sequels and came back to reprise it. He even personally consulted in the Eggman-led story of a comic book tie-in, of all things.

Jim Carrey is best case scenario for rich white guy who smokes a bunch of DMT: a "Buddhist-style" reflection on the illusory/transitional nature of self and integration of this idea into his comedy acts. Musk is the antipode: He maintains attachment to his idea of self through comfort and position and uses it to double down on his internal ugliness.

Honestly, I felt like Elon’s SNL performance was less of an ego trip (though it certainly was that, too), and more of a PR stunt. One that failed miserably, but there were so many meta-jokes to paint some of his most legitimate criticisms at the time as whimsical nonissues that it clearly seemed like an attempt to reclaim his narrative. Also, there were 3 jokes in 3 different sketches dealing with cousin-loving and I don’t even want to attempt breaking that down.

I think Jim Carrey is a fool in the classical sense; he claims to be self-aware while behaving as though he isn't, creating an extra layer of irony on top of whatever over-the-top character he's portraying. If he's doing that by accident then he's just one of those natural clowns we get in each generation. But if he's doing it intentionally, then he's a comedic genius. And the fact that decades into his career we still can't tell if he's a genius or just a clown is a feat of clowning in and of itself.
@_foxpuppet

For real! I feel like Carrey is hard enough to get a read on that he's either very genuine in his public persona (as opposed to actors who have a curated personality that they express consistently for the purpose of their brand (not saying that's bad, just that it's something that's often done)) or he is actively working to give off conflicting signals, which is a level of dedication I couldn't help but be equally as impressed with

I have read multiple zombie apocalypse guides that point out that setting a zombie on fire, while it might eventually kill them, mostly just means you have a regular zombie that's on fire, something that is objectively worse than a normal zombie. So, no, Musk, I don't want your flamethrowers for the zombie apocalypse. I would get something actually useful like a bicycle or a wilderness survival guide.

I actually prefer to think of Muskrat as a more specific type of filmic villain. See, Chinatown was supposed to be the first entry in a series of movies about real life corruption scandals in Southern California's history. It didn't really pan out that way that in the short term, and one of the scripts was repurposed for the _Who Censored Roger Rabbit_ film adaptation. (Unrelated, but out of nowhere, _The Two Jakes_ comes out in 1990, but we'll get back to that. For now, let's go back to _Who Framed Roger Rabbit.)_ In simplest terms, the plot involves deranged Toon-disguised-as-a-person, Judge Doom buying out public transportation and redlining minorities out of their homes to create a freeway. Meanwhile in present-day California, Muskowski's boring company digs a big fugoff one-lane wide hyper-inefficient tunnel with no ventilation that ostensibly doesn't meet any of the goals one might expect the project to have had. But that's because the goal wasn't to build an effecient-or even _functional_ tunnel. The goal was to win a a bid for a monetary allotment that would have otherwise been directed to public transportation infrastructure. The _real goal_ was to divert the funds that would have otherwise gone to mass transit, indirect competition for his Edison cars. So he wasted all the money digging a useless hole in the ground. *Ergo:* Dollarstore Ironman is the villain in the upcoming "Chinatown Cinematic Universe" film. (And quite possibly a deranged toon masquerading as a human.) _(Edit: KZbin tried to block this comment until I stopped spelling out his name lmao.)_

Lystrosaurus was a dicynodont synapsid from the Late Permian Period to early Triassic period (255-240 million years ago). It was about 1.5 meters long, herbivorous, had a piglike body, splayed legs, a beak and a pair of tusks. It was notable for surviving the End Permian Extinction Event, the most devastating extinction event in earth's history which wiped out 70-90% of all life on earth. When the Dust Settled, Lystrosaurus was among the few creatures that survived and spread far and wide across Pangea. At the dawn of the Triassic, up to 95% of all land vertebrate life by mass was Lystrosaurus.

I haven't watched the video yet but I can't help but enthusiastically agree with the title. EDIT: After finishing the video I do wonder, what about Knuckles and Rogue? Did they have a good date? Why has Maggie not addressed this? Kind of suspect, don't you think?

I agree with many of your points. But then again, your cat makes several compelling arguments.

If you think Musk is the worst SNL host, that's because you've never seen Steven Segal's attempt.

Hi Maggie. I legit first found out about you from your "A Better Way to Watch" video about the Star Wars Prequels on Cracked years ago. I loved the theory you presented so much that I showed my wife and my closest friends. My wife loved it too, to the point where when I was watching the recent Obi Wan Kenobi series we talked about how much the theory still worked with the way Obi Wan talked about Padme to Leia, including the way he sincerely mentions "seeing her mother's face" when he looks at her, as well as how when Leia asks if he is her real father he says "I wish I could say I was". So recently when I saw that you had a series of film theory videos I immediately knew I had to watch them. Truthfully it has been so interesting to see someone so much smarter than I am analyzing so many movies that I have seen and loved, often talking about perspectives I never considered or themes I never picked up on. Please keep doing what you are doing, I really appreciate just how much I have learned from all your videos so far. You have such a unique and insightful perspective. I look forward to your next video. ☺️ You rule queen 🙌🏼 Keep being awesome ❤️❤️❤️
