Unveiling the Truth of Self: Gurdjieff's Teaching on Self-Identification

This is a Short Introduction into Gurdjieff's Teachings on Self-Identification to uncover the Truth of Self.
The mystic Gurdjieff used to say “Man is a prisoner, and he has lived in the prison so long that he has completely forgotten that he is a prisoner”.
G. I. Gurdjieff's teachings on self-identification emphasize the idea that most people live their lives in a state of "waking sleep," where they are not truly aware of themselves or their surroundings. He believed that true self-awareness and inner development can only be achieved by breaking out of this state and actively working to understand oneself.
Gurdjieff's "Fourth Way" system of ideas emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to inner development, which includes physical, emotional, and mental work. He believed that people must actively observe themselves, their thoughts, and their actions in order to understand their true nature. He also stressed the importance of self-remembering and self-observation as a means of gaining self-awareness.

That was - I guess - the best comment or research on Identification. Is is correct : everything pushes us to what THEY demand from us : continuous desires, planning about the future, pleasures, manipulation, influence, properties... but they never speak that you will die, and that this blind society - the biggest manipulating factor - can do anything about that. Perhaps a wonderful tombstone, " good father, good citizen, good taxpayer, we will miss you, and on " printed on it. That is the prize for the identification process - automatic thoughts coming from past, and an automatic forgetting from society. Thanks for the video- we see Matrix, They live, Blade Runner, 1984, and other bad examples . Keep on !

Yes, partly. Many parts are also from some of his students such as Ouspensky.

Yes, identification was one of the central focuses of Gurdjieff's teaching. So it appears frequently.

@@croissants1280 No, not that specific quote. It does sound familiar, and like something Gurdjieff would say. It makes sense within the context of his teaching too. I can't honestly say if he said it tho, or where to find that exact quote.

Thanks for the compliment. 🙂 To be honest, the main reason why I decided to create these videos about gurdjieff was because I was interested in his teachings but I couldn't find good videos about him. So, I started reading Belzebubs tale but figured that it didn't resonate with me so I stopped reading it. Afterwards, I was looking into some specific aspects of his teachings (e.g., essence and personality) that I found interesting and decided to only read/listen to the topics that resonated with me. Therefore, I do not have that much knowledge about the wide range of his teachings but merely the most important points.

​​​​@@Till_TalkOuspenski is the best written form of Gurdjieff's teaching. I recommend The Fourth Way by Ouspenski. Much more approachable than most of Gurdjieff's own writing. It is said that Gurdjieff intentionally made his writings difficult to read. Meetings With Remarkable Men is the one exception. Definitely his most approachable book. Ouspenski is the go to place to learn about Gurdjieff's teaching tho.
