The bomb's designers thought the lithium-7 was inert, but it wasn't and boosted the yield three times what they expected. There's some really high quality footage of the explosion which becomes much scarier when you realize anyone watching got a way bigger boom than they were expecting.

Yes the lucky dragon 5 incident was one of the primary inspirations for Godzilla

The hydrogen bomb is part of the Castle Bravo nuclear test. Matashichi Oishi and the rest of the crew onboard Lucky Dragon 5 become accidental test subjects for the side effects. Also, the food source that the islanders from Marshall Island relied on got contaminated with radioactive material.

‘The devious mission the government tried to hide’ and ‘the real story of the undead army’ are my favorite mr.ballen stories, I think you guys would also like them. Both take place during WW2.

By all means check out more of Ballen's older stuff! Especially all the '3 stories', '3 pictures', 3 this and that series!

I can't imagine going about my normal day and suddenly I'm tripping. Especially if I'd never tripped before. How would your brain handle it? And the government wasn't admitting to it back then either. Everyone you would have talked to about it would have thought you were crazy or a liar

It really was the first time people had experienced that. This was a hydrogen bomb the ones in Japan were atomic bombs which are drastically less destructive. Interesting fact. Because this experiment wrecked the Marshalese peoples home to such a degree. The US gave their people instant, irrevokable, and perpetual Resident Alien status in America. I also know that well over half of those who relocated wound up in NW Arkansas of all places. Tyson chicken was hitting its stride and hiring like mad. Tyson invited them to the state and promised them jobs. Which they got, and were paid fairly. I know because I was an insurance agent in Arkansas and Marshalese people were 80% of my customer base.

I love Japan and Japanese culture, but one of their faults (EVERY culture has it's faults, even western) of the Japanese is they're TOO non-confrontational and closed-off. Gets them hurt A LOT. Not just in this story, but just in general if you spend your time listening to True Crime channels.

@@haabat1342 You not comprehend the word relative? The world is quite peaceful, all things considered, and the US is mostly to thank for that. Now, you could argue that isn't necessarily good, because people have it too easy. Easy times create weak people, and weak people create hard times. And that's about where we are now.
