My flight out to Nevada last month I had the 'seat' problem! I walked down to my aisle seat (assigned) and there was a guy sitting there. His wife was at the window seat. I politely showed him my ticket and that I had THAT seat, and he acted like he didn't speak English and pointed to the middle seat!! I shook my head and said, 'no' , you have my seat. Well, after everyone behind me was getting irritated he moved to his seat, which was the middle one!!. Needless to say the 5 hour trip, he was spreading his legs into my space. Oh well, I just pushed them away, lol lol ..Ahh, the fun of flying!

A couple stories: Back in August I was flying to TN last minute to see my Aunt in hospice. It was pure madness. I had no choice but to take the middle seat in the emergency row. On each side of me was a larger man and I am not a small woman (but not huge either) I take my seat after the men had been seated. They had their arms already resting on “my” armrests. So I sat down put my bag under the seat in front of me, put on my seatbelt and assumed (I know big mistake to assume) that once we got settled at least one of them would move their arms. NOPE I flew from Southern California to Knoxville TN with my arms crossed like I was in a coffin. I’ve never been so miserable in my life. Story #2 in January I was flying back from another trip to TN, to pack my aunt’s belongings, it was almost time to take off and the row across from me (three seats) was completely empty. All of a sudden a man and woman sit down and get comfortable, really comfy, blankets, headphones (and i believe a drink or four before they got on) the woman was obnoxiously loud, she was complaining about EVERYTHING and we had not even take off yet. All of a sudden a family of three (adults) are headed my way they stop right where loud woman and husband were sitting look at their tickets, look at the seats (a couple times) the mom (why is it always the mom) says you are in our seats. Obnoxious woman says well we are sitting here, you got here late so ummm not our problem. The flight attendant was on it quick and asked obnoxious woman to see there tickets. Well it turns out the woman and husband were seated more towards the front but a few rows apart from each other and they had decided to take the empty row because it was “late”. The family was late because the flight they came in on was very late and the pilot was holding the plane for them. Such a mess

No seat reclining. The spaces are too small. I traveled with co-workers one time and the person in front of my co-worker next to me fully reclined their seat. She asked him if he wanted a teeth cleaning! Great comeback! He apologized and put his seat up after chucking.

When you’re on a long red eye flight, people need to recline to sleep. Plus, if everyone reclines, you gain back the space you may have lost when the person in front of you reclines.

The lady next to me wore new black pants that had that stinky chemical sulfury awful smell to them that those stretchy black jeans have. She apologized profusely and offered to find something else in her carry on to wear but I just told her we could suffer for a couple of hours to Denver. We had a good laugh about it because I know I have bought those pants before and it takes several washes to get the smell out. We were both chubby and spent the rest of the flight talking about clothing stores we liked and showed each other what we bought lately. It was actually one of the nicest flights ever, but very smelly

I love a good window seat, but I pay extra to choose an aisle seat so I can get up and go to the restroom whenever I need to. I also have knee issues, so I like to be able to stand and stretch. I recline the seat, it's not much of a recline and sleeping is hard to do but I ask the people behind me when i want to do it. I had a guy on my flight from LGW to BOS in Dec. and he was a bigger dude, like a football player husky and when he had to get in and out his seat was moved all over the place. I showed him how to move the aisle armrest up with the hidden button, I use that all the time and people are amazed when i show them. Flying sucks. I'd love to be able to do business class but it's hard to justify the $$ when you can just suck it up for the time.

That's what I say. It's not a matter of recline/don't recline but check on the person behind you. It's such a simple thing, not asking much of someone and one time I was bent forward, reaching something by my feet and someone slammed my head. Just make sure 'the coast is clear'.

It will probably make me sound obnoxious, but I have a #16 rule in airplane etiquette. I’m so tired of getting to my seat and there’s no room left in the overhead bin because someone 10 rows back, decided to put their bag in my allotted space on the way back to their seat. I’ve personally seen, several times, folks put their bag in the overhead of First Class and then make their way to the back of the plane. Only once have I seen a flight attendant make them remove it and take it with them to their own seat. It’s ridiculous. On top of that, I am so tired of having to check my bag at the gate because people watch KZbin videos on how to get away with bringing more than they are allowed on flights, and they take up space that is meant for other people. I recently used over 300K Sky Miles I’d been saving to fly to Barcelona in First Class. On the first leg of the flight from TPA to ATL, I had only my small carryon suitcase-NO PERSONAL ITEM, my purse was inside my carryon., so ONE ITEM of luggage. As I was boarding, the flight attendant at the door of the plane insisted there was no space left for my bag, and that I had to remove essential items and gate check my bag. She said they’d be checking my carryon all the way through to Spain. I tried to explain to her I have a bad back that was acting up and she just flippantly said “Sorry, you need to do it quickly and take a seat if you want to get on this flight.” Luckily, I had a large folding shopping bag in my carryon. But unfortunately, 95% of what was in my carryon had to come on board with me, and ultimately, the bag was as large as the carryon suitcase. Once we landed in Atlanta, I had to carry that heavy shopping bag all through the airport, and of course, my gate was at the furthest end of the terminal. The handle ripped off the bag, it was so heavy. I somehow managed to get it to my gate, trying to hold it together in my arms, with my back screaming in pain with every step I took. I managed to lose my glasses in the process, which made it even more fun. When I arrived in Barcelona, it was all I could do to get to my hotel. I spent the first 4 days in bed, in pain every time I moved... Somehow, they’ve got to figure out a more equitable system because I should’ve been able to bring my one item onboard. Every time I hear people giving advice online on how to bring more onboard than we’re allowed, it honestly makes me angry. I should have my allotted space over my seat guaranteed . No one else should be allowed to take someone else’s space for themselves.
@ShesTheWorld10 ай бұрын
Especially in first class...you should be allowed your space but I would add a tip or two here...NEVER book basic economy and board early to ensure you get the space you need. We do not book basic for our travelers for this reason.

Watched your video and love all of your videos, thank you very much. I do however have a comment about the seat reclining topic. On a long flight, international, it makes me crazy when the person in front of me reclined their seat for the entire trip yet will sit forward for most of the time reading a book, or doing something else. They clearly are not leaning back in their reclined seat and as you say, there is very very little space as it is. So I guess my suggestion is, if you’re going to recline your seat please lean back into your reclined seat. If you’re reclining your seat on the off chance you may may want to sit back once in a while, I think that’s very inconsiderate.

Agree with all of these, except the recline. Out of courtesy, look at the person behind you. If they are tall and have long legs, dont recline your seat Its already sitting on my knees. Also, when getting out of your seat, try not to pull with all your might on the seat in front of you. All of this boils down to common courtesy for the people around you. Great information, thank you. My number 1 issue is roller carry-ons. 2 times I have been required to gate check my backpack style carry-on that is below carry-on requirements because of rolling carry-on had to fit length ways as with the wheels was too long and the karen refused to gate check her bag the 3rd time I walked off and booked on another flight. Most of the time I use business class on longer flights but have had economy passengers stuff their bags in business bins as they are bringing too much. Even have had one pull my carry-on out and put her bags in the bin and she was in economy. She told me I was a white prevalaged and it was her right and I was a racist. The FA wouldn't interfere so I left and never again will I fly united. All the airline would was book me 2 days later and couldn't do it. Another thing is a man getting drunk and getting in my face, glad it was 3 hour flight and the FA moved me business class. The worst smell was a guy next to me saturated in Marijuana smoke and before push back the police came and removed amidst his physical protests. Had woman wearing a short full skirt setting next to me and she pulled it up complaining it was hot to not look and didn't have underwear on. Please do not wear short dresses, and if wearing hose and there is an emergency and using the slide that may melt your nylons to you. I am not a prude but you can't fix stupid. I am an A&P mechanic, retired, and worked for a major airline and a passenger opened the rear door at the gate and I got to try a side. I now live in the Philippines with my wife and and 18 flight from Seattle there and always in business class and it is an Asian owned airline as I refuse to use US owned airlines with all the pot smoking drunk anti-Trump jerks.

Hold the garlic, people! To recline, or not to recline? Don't! Reclining your seat invades the space of the person behind you (yup, you're also a spreader, just in a different direction). Besides, the recline really doesn't do much to help the reclining person feel more comfortable, because it doesn't actually recline all that much, however it has a big impact on the already cramped space of the person behind you. I unfortunately have had several trips from hell. I was onboard an eight-hour flight with a choir that was suffering food poisoning. Half of them were throwing up and the rest barely able to make the toilet. I often see drunk people boarding the plane. Unsure where they are drinking first. Never ask the rest of the people in the plane to look after your children. I have caught people rampaging in my carry on for a tampon or lipstick. I once had a woman recline her seat into my lap and then throw her hair into my face. I had a family move into my seat when I went to the toilet - took a while to convince them to move back to their seats. Woke up flying over the US once to a man masturbating in the seat beside me. I have also had a woman cutting her toenails. Someone doing the hair and makeup of all her eight children for a wedding in a flight and another dictating an audiobook. I personal think people have lost all common sense and manners.

I typically book if possible so that there are two seats rather than 2. On one flight the lady in the aisle seat was so large she encroached into my space despite trying to stay in her seat. The lady did sleep, turning her body so her back was to me. I had no choice except my arm had to touch her back as she encroached into my space due to her size but she didn't complain about that. On one international flight with seat back media, the man in the seat in front of me stretched and put his hands behind his seat so they covered by screen! I had to push his hands out of the way several times before he quit, getting a bit more insistent each time. From what I could hear, English was not his first language so I wasn't sure I could verbally request he not put his hands behind his seat. I typically only recline on international flights when the lights are dimmed after food service.

As a frequent flier, smelly food is by far the worst thing in my experience -and it happens a lot now. Apparently more people realize they can/should bring food with them, but they never give a thought to how that food smells. The worst has been bags from an Asian fast-food chain, some form of seafood with a heavy sauce (not orange or sweet sauce, a heavy fishy sauce). People all around them were gagging and complaining. And it’s happened more than once or twice. Attendants say there’s nothing they can do, and changing seats is rarely a solution. (Not many, if any, seats open these days, and not far enough away) I get you want some food; I do myself. But never food like that.

On a 3 hr flight I got stuck in the middle seat. I fly standby domestic usually and I already got bumped earlier (I fly with benefits) sooooo I got on a full plane in fact I was there last one on (I really hate when that happens... Way too many people flying these days for my comfort & expectations, I know spoiled... bahaha). Anyway, an elderly woman (I'm 67 she was older) at the window feared turbulence and grabbed me for dear life several times. I DID feel sorry for her and accommodated her even when she almost spilled my very tasty cocktail a few times. Thankfully she had bladder control for the entire flight. But it was the man at the aisle seat that smelled of shit. I had to hold my breath for 3 hrs. And be pleasant about it. After talking with him (while holding my breath). He was an older carnival guy(all 3 of us were Seniors) that was going home after setting up the animal section of the fair earlier that day, for the fall fair carnival thing. He has that "just walked out of a very dirty barn smell". I would have welcomed some overly powerful Cologne wearing person. BUT I WAS PLEASANT AND VERY NICE to both seat mates. We all had gkids and had pleasant conversations about the perils of teenager kids and now teenage gkids. We were all going home and talked about what we all got up to in Toronto. It was very pleasant inspite of the very bad turbulence and the aroma and I drank 3 Bloody Ceasar when I usually only have one.

My least favorite smell is someone who is a heavy smoker & their clothes reak of stale smoke.

If that person sat near me, I’d likely throw up. Seriously.

All I could think of was if a man was in the aisle and refused to get up so I could go to the restroom, the if he accidentally gets kneed in the balls while I fell as I climbed over him, then OOPSIE… 😬. Fortunately, I always fly with my hubby and he likes the aisle while I like the window so…

Worst smell I encountered on the plane is the person in front of me farting. I now put a little dab of perfume on the inside of my wrist so I have something pleasant to smell.

I always wear headphones on flights to cut out the people who don't as well as crying babies. (Nothing against the crying babies, it just makes for a pleasant trip.) When people just lean back/turn to the side if I need out, I just figure "okay, you want my fat ass in your face...just remember...you could have stood up." I rarely get up though, I basically 'fast' before a long flight.

Makes me wish for pre 1950s eras more and more. People acting less like proper humans more and more these days. Yuck

It happened in the 1970’s and 1980’s too when I’d fly as a child. Then you had to deal with cigarette smoking.

As a person who suffers from migraines. Strong or a person who wears a lot of perfume/cologne triggers me. People speaking loudly on cellphones anywhere just shocks me. Nobody wants or needs to hear their business. I’ve heard bits and pieces of “business deals, break ups…,”
@merrillundgren179010 ай бұрын
Many older people wear tons of scents because they can’t smell well (actually, a lot of people have this issue right now). And people from other countries may as well because it’s a cultural norm.
@birdee1810 ай бұрын
As a migraine and allergy sufferer, I can only wear light scents. I will definitely get a headache if I’m around someone who has doused themselves in a strong cologne. It’s bad enough that I teach middle school boys who douse themselves in Axe and make my classroom smell like an Atlantic City casino. I definitely can’t deal with it on a plane!

@@birdee18 is there anything you do if you’re in this situation?
@birdee1810 ай бұрын
@@merrillundgren1790 I’m lucky enough that if I get to my migraine meds fast enough, I can head off a headache. Thankfully it hasn’t happened on a plane. I do teach middle school kids who like to drench themselves in body spray, though, and keeping my meds nearby is a lifesaver.

About climbing over the person on the aisle … it also disrupts the person in the row in front of you when you must grab their seat back for balance. What about the child behind you who kicks your seat throughout the flight. I once mentioned to a child that the seat back in front of him was part of my seat - the adult traveling with him told me to mind my own damn business.

My seat IS my business as is my sore back from being kicked.
@GenxGypsy196810 ай бұрын
I thought about adding the seat kicking, as I have had that happen multiple times in the last couple of years. Definitely in the next unwritten rules video!

I don’t agree with you, if you are in the aisle seat you are not obligated to get up to let the person out, I will not and do not do that.
