I post this just in case someone is shopping and looking for a review. Thank you for the good review. I feel a problem with English speaking KZbin motorcycle vlogs is they all assess their machines from the perspective of toys primarily for entertainment. As an older person in America living on a small fixed pension and social security, I assess my (less than) 300 cc single cylinder Honda motorcycle to be among the most affordable and reliable personal transportation options with the smallest negative environmental impacts for travel beyond a 50 mile radius. I can an very often do ride my CB 300RA at highway speeds for 4 to 6 hours/day for multiple successive days. I believe the single cylinder and 8,000 miles service intervals and 70+ mpg fuel consumption should be highlighted more as positive aspects. Until I become constrained to a personal mobility device I will say this is much more than just a beginner’s motorcycle, this is an excellent transportation option.

Daniel. You’re absolutely correct. In North America motorcycles are for fun but more and more it is a cheaper way to commute and the CB300R is probably the most cost effective combined with Honda durability and reliability.

Thanks Daniel for your comment. I have owned this bike for a year and done 6000kms (slightly more than 3700 miles) with it. I am still in love with it! It is excellent in town and great to commute. I have done some road trip with it and the only downsize for me would be the sit that is a bit hard after a couple of hours. It has enough punch to overtake, light to be very nimble in traffic, very frugal as you mentioned too. It is my first venture into "bigger" bikes category I am not convinced I'll buy a bigger one later. My solution so far has been to rent a CB500x for the occasional roadtrip with my wife. It is a great bike!

This is much more than a good beginner bike. My other bike is a 2021 Yamaha MT-09. When I get on my CB300R, the ultra light weight, the superb handling, the sound of the little single cylinder engine, all those things put a big smile on my face!

I have the 2019 in black, too. And it’s a fantastic bike. Amazed it’s been discontinued. Maybe it’s because everyone calls it a ‘beginner’ bike and that can put seasoned riders off. But this is a GREAT bike and I’ve been riding 20 years.

I have a 919 now. Went into the dealer to check out the new CB1000R but almost bought the 300R. It looks great and would be a super fun bike for around town. Or even could see having a great time at a track. There's just something satisfying about constantly being at full throttle.

Good review. I agree with most you've said. I rode the BMW G310R for about 2 hours during a motorcycle lesson here in Vancouver a year ago. I've also rode the Honda CB300F during a lesson too. This new CB300R, which looks way better than their aging 300F. I've visited both Carter Honda who had the matt black on there floor and Honda Centre who had a red one. I'm 5'9" and I was wearing standard tennis shoes and although I wasn't flat footing it, I did have enough sole on the ground I think. Plus, if I had on motorcycle boots I think I would be fine. There is a company called ....soup ...something, something that makes lowering kits for the CB300F among other bikes. However, I'm not sure if they have something for the CB300R just yet. The BMW G310R is 30.9 of a seat height, which I can flat foot. I do wish Honda added a gear indicator that the CB300F was lacking, but one can live without it or add an after market one later I guess. Anyway, again, good review. Cheers!

I just bought the blue/bronze CB300R for my first bike, and don't worry too much about the height- I am 5'7" and with my motorcycle boots giving me an extra inch, I can flat-foot it just fine. I don't even have particularly long legs, even for a girl. You do have to put your legs out to the side more than other bikes at a stop, it's more of a 'squat' position- that can be weird for people transitioning from other motorcycles.

Was really looking at this bike as my first, but the problem I have is that I'll use it on the Highway, about 40 minutes each way, some 3 days a week. And many have told me I should get something with a bit more power to it. I've looked now at the cb500f since many recommend it as a first bike too, but I do love the aesthetic of the Neo-Cafe line haha. Kinda wish there was a 2 cylinder version like the 500f but on the Neo Cafe line.

@@leeridefar Hi there thanks for your reply. I currently be have a 1996 CB 250 and it's great it has a top box on the back. I need to carry a suit which I can strap easily onto the backseat in a suit carrier and my laptop can be tucked in underneath as well. These sort of bikes don't appear to be designed for this What was the tank size and the Range what's the mpg figure? Buy CB 250 give me about 130 miles to the gallon. Have you done any reviews on electric bikes? Anyway safe riding.

Yes I’ve ridden the Zero Electric Motorcycle. Fun bikes! But too expensive and range is too short. I hope they have better range soon. Fuel range on the CB300R is about 130miles. The Ninja 400 has a range of close to 200miles but it has a bigger tank.

Bought a CB300R new in July 2020. I must have the only engine of it's type with a faulty water pump seal leaking from new in Australia and not 1 single seal in the country for a reasonably timed warranty replacement. I have been promised a minimum of 6 weeks from the time the fault was discovered until maybe a ship will get a new seal into the country. Oh and for the 1st week nothing was done; no job card made up; no seal ordered. And if for some reason the seal is not on that ship or the ship does not arrive on time no idea what is supposed to happen. So bike sitting unrideable {safely} and nothing will get done like say putting a 10 cent sized seal on a plane to get one into the country. I cannot get over the fact there is not one single seal after who knows how many bikes with this engine type must have been sold here on anything from various 250's to CBR300R & CB300F with an engine reportedly designed to be a multi use engine world wide to aid in such things as easy parts supply due to wide use. For me the bike went from being a welcome addition to something I am sorry I bought in one week leaving me wishing I had bought any one of the several other bikes I had shortlisted for my purposes.

@@leeridefar While that is a kind offer & I thank you for it they will eventually get one in. Just for your information the CB300R and the CB500X share the same seal part number. I have been informed more recently by a employee of the dealership that both bikes and those sharing the same engines have been having this problem since at least 2017 and the dealership has repaired a number of them. No production fix has been performed so far but it is a repetitive problem only being dealt with when it comes to a dealerships attention and to this point has not had a fix performed at manufacturer level. I have been informed it happens to some bikes after sitting for a time in transit to dealerships. Something to do with sitting & maybe the 1st few seconds of running might cause a fault to develop with the seal but details not clear while repetitiveness is a fact, over the last 3 years at least. It usually shows up within the 1st 5,000 klm and is a weep which does not rapidly affect coolant level so goes unnoticed until a person removes the lower cover and discovers the evidence of the weeping. They suggested covid19 has caused seal stocks here to deplete and not be replaced enough. I am also informed the new seal on the way for me is a different part number and the dealership hopes this is a improved seal to try to beat the problem from occurring. Fitting an original seal part number would leave me concerned the fault could re-occur to me; and possibly outside of the warranty period leaving me to deal with it at my expense. Interestingly I have seen a little talk in a forum or two of at least one model bike mentioned above having known water pump issues at low mileage outside of warranty up to 40,000 klm. I think this problem needs to be brought into light not to harm the bikes reputation overall but to make Honda Japan deal with it at manufacture and to compensate those affected. Water pumps with proper coolant service and coolant concentrations should always have a good long life; usually at least 10 years or 100,000 klm be it car; truck or bike.
