The Armor was a joint venture between Britain and America. My father was one of the designers and engineers. Germany did not come into the project until the end. Let’s also remember this tank one of the first manufsctured. Thus model is not what the US uses today.

This one has the most modern one 120 mm caliber. Moreover this is a specific version of a tank from 2022 designed specifically for the ukr. conflict.

I think the most interesting thing to come out of the Ukraine war is the use of weaponized FPV drones. Both sides are basically turning cheap commercially available race drones into wildly effective guided ant-tank weapons.

@@Chemike21 militaries have been dabbling with small weaponized drones for a bit now, this is just the first large scale real world implementation of them I've seen. Insurgent forces in the Middle East have been using consumer drones to drop ordnance well before this war. The race drones are the new interesting part though, those little things are fast, manuverable, and have insane power to weight ratios so they can carry a surprisingly effective payload and are really difficult to counter.

The M88 absolutely is still being used the M1A1 heavy is pushing 70 tons so it’s the only thing that can pull an abrams out if it gets stuck! I was a 19k so an Abrams crewman and originally a 63T Bradley fighting vehicle systems mechanic and used the M88 quite a bit! And if anyone says the abrams is obsolete they do not know what they are talking about! 120 mm smooth bore cannon is almost 5 inches of depleted uranium slug that will pop all other tanks like a balloon!

I don't think this exhibition is just because of Victory Day. Over one year ago Europe did the same thing - brought Russian tanks near embassies to show how "bad" Russians were. It did backfired then (but media quickly cowered it up) as EU/US governments were expecting everyone would cheer about destroyed Russian tanks, but instead people were bringing flowers to show their solitude. This "museum" is definitely a reminder for EU/US about those days. US guy said they would not do it, but let's be honest here - w/o asking approval from US - EU would not have brought those tanks in a first place. US simply has nothing to show off - hence they "wouldn't do it".

Read some of the diary entries from the German army WW2 then you wil know just how good they are, this merely an operation. Totally different to an all out war. School teachers and accountants where trained from little children to have the right attitude. Then as they grew up they learned how to use the hardware. I was at the Russian Officers Artillary School watch ing them practice no fancy computers all done long hand so when you have no computer you can still function. Our Armies batteries go flat we are stuffed. Just an observation.

The United States does not produce new Abrams for itself, only "monkey versions" for its "allies" like Iraq and Ukraine. The USSR did the same for Saddam with the T-72, by the way. So all Abrams for the USA are 30+ old chassis. As for the "improvements and new tech," it's not that the REAL Abrams USA was armed with a rail gun, protected by a force field and hovered on antigrav.

In 1965, when I was in high school, there was an Indo-Pakistan war. The US had given the latest Patton tanks to Pakistan to invade India. In just one battle of Asal Uttar, Pakistan lost 165 tanks. Some of the Patton tanks were brand new with only about a hundred miles on the clock. These tanks were towed away and donated to various states of India. These were displayed at prominent places. The US embassy pressurized India to desist from doing so but they were told to go mind their own business. It was deeply heartwarming and satisfying to see these tanks that were destroyed by our brave soldiers. You might be surprised to know that India only had British Centurians and Russian T-68 and T-72 tanks.

American tanks werent particularly good, like ever.Shermans were absolutely subpar compared to German or Soviet tank designs. Grants were so bad, they phased them out during the war. They built the Abrams to finally have a good tank.
