UP Heritage Super Dome Cars, NOT HAPPY - DaBob's ManCave

Well I ordered these UP Heritage Super Dome cars made by Intermountain for the N Scale Enthusiast club. The cars look great and run smooth but there is a problem with them that I noticed in mine. I am NOT happy.

I just got in my UP Milwaukee road super dome. Came with 2 sets of batteries. The set that was installed were dead on arrival. The second set worked just fine. Rather annoying that I had to replace brand new batteries.

That’s frustrating. I would have thought that they would have used one of those thin battery insulation tabs so there is no chance of the batteries going dead in shipment. Hint-hint…..

I have the happy holidays version of this dome car from the NSE released right before this car. I found that you have to wave the magnet down the side of the car. Over the top doesn't work with the dome car. In any event, once the light came on it was very difficult to see unless it was almost completely dark in the train room. Not sure if 1.5 is too weak or they are dead. Intermountain quality has really slipped the past few years.

I tried all around the car, fast and slow, close up and far away like their instructions say. Nothing worked. Watched a video from years ago on this car and they just placed it on top and held it there, still nothing. Batteries are my only option left. If it isn't simple to figure out, it is a poor design.

Wow I just received mine. What did intermountain say when you told then? Clearly the magnet switch isn't cutting the power off. I will test mine and see but I bet they are dead too! intermountain should recall and fix, i just ordered the next two before I saw your review!, disappointing that the under carriage is so plain, at 75.00 each, today they should've been better. I am thinking 2-3 rating at this point!

They are looking into the issue, the factory has had to redesign/rebuild them, I may have some faulty circuit boards. Just waiting on a solution at the moment, I may get new light boards to put in that do work and send the old ones in for "research".

@@DaBobsNScaleMancave Thank you Bob, yes all four of mine didn't work either. I think the magnet activated the switch while in the box because it was so close and is quite strong. I will order new batteries from Amazon. I have a bunch of the additional road names ordered for the full domes so I do hope they get it all sort by the time they come in, and too bad they didn't put the batteries in the bottom where they would be easy to change. Pain to take the shell off especially if they do not last very long. Thank you for doing the video and letting everyone know!

@@lyndonfoster1090 I had questioned the positioning of the wand in the package, I didn't pay attention to which way it was in there. The battery side or the other side where the switch is.

Well, time to look for some batteries that fit and charged. Otherwise I like them and will run them.

I know the paint is a fantasy scheme, but is there a real prototype for these cars? Or was it a loose interpretation of one or two kinds of dome cars?

I am not 100% sure on the exactness of this car but it is no longer used by Amtrak, They went into service in 1952 on the Milwaukee road and are still used today in private service.

LR41 not very common,1.5 Volts should be enough, but that is disappointing
