If you're a current or future UP student, or simply interested in the educational system in the Philippines, you won't want to miss this video. These interviews provide unique insights into the challenges and opportunities that the Philippine education system faces, from the perspectives of actual UP students.

most filipinos have a degree but i guess what we are lacking is the opportunity, because filipinos sought to have a long term employment rather than to be an entrepreneur

Filipinos prefer to be employees rather than business owners because most of them realize life is about family and happiness, and you need time for both. Businessmen have to put in long hours and will have to sacrifice their family and time necessary in pursuit of happiness. Being rich is nice but is not a must, having just enough money to live comfortably is fine.

The problem is the mindset. It’s like we are trained to become employee, and other countries are the ones benefiting for it the most. Like most Filipinos will become nurse, doctors, seafarer, English teachers, etc. then because of low salary and lack of opportunity here, they go abroad. Gladly, I see changes now, especially new teachers, they’re encouraging students to have a bigger goal, to become boss, to own a company and not just an employee. They’re teaching us how important entrepreneurship is, so I have high hope for the country’s future.

@@juanshaftpatel7488 It’s indeed sad that the Philippine government is allowing Filipinos to work there as maids, but those who work as maids are only elementary graduates. Most Filipinos with degrees work in the medical field, as engineers, or as teachers. Though Filipino maids in Dubai are still lucky compared to maids from the Indian subcontinent, I observed that Filipinos do get a lot better treatment than other workers from the Indian subcontinent because generally Filipinos are smarter and very hygienic, so they smell good. They don’t stink like those from the Indian Subcontinent.

@@binge4073 I'm sure many only got forced by their parents to take those courses. I agree. I think, its mainly about knowing what you want. And your drive and motivation on how to achieve it.. of course every person has different challenges, but there's no one way of achieving something. Philippine education is primarily a business by the schools. Students were required to take subjects which are not related in their course, consuming your time and money for subjects you dont like. Example, Engineering and you are required for literature, social sciences, etc. Phillipine students were trained to be employed after graduation or work abroad ( nursing ) instead of encouraging them to put up their own businesses.

The business side of any course is a major you can choose. For example, in my time in year 2007, there's a course like BS Information Technology, major in Business administration. There's also a major in Entrepreneurship of the same course. No idea if that's still the case but I don't think there's any reason for the government to change that system.

Hi Ryan, no , this is not the case today but entrepreuneurship is part of our curriculum (actually two, senior high and in college) as opposed to being chosen as major. Instead, what we have on our majors are deeper knowledge on our respective fields (eg. Networking, UI / UX , MicroElecs, Sys Admin etc. ) . Hope this helps 😊

@@chocofield but those non-related subjects should only be offered in the high school years not in the college years. Try to compare the academic curriculum in the advanced countries and see the difference. Ask yourself what's the real purpose of enrolling yourself in college and take the course that you like the most. Think the relevancy of the subject areas like literature and other non related areas which are being included in a poor academic curriculum, is it really applicable in the real world when you' are gonna seek for a job once graduated in college as an engineer, for example.?

At least two of these UP students were smart enough to basically summarize the current state of education in two words - Educational Crisis. But the problem is, the current leaders in this country were either turning a blind eye to the continuous decline of education quality or they're too incompetent in finding long-term solutions to this dilemma. Because of anti-intellectualism and historical distortion spreading like pandemic in all sectors of the society, especially evident in social media, my mind is already entertaining the possibility of apocalyptic ignorance in a global scale. However, upon hearing young minds who are completely outspoken and responsive to the social issues makes me think that we still have a fighting chance to recover from eventual cataclysmic mediocrity. I love your content it’s really interesting thank you for creating this vlogs especially this content it really helps us especially to the fresh graduates and still pursuing their studies it’s a big help for them at least they have the idea about their own choices before it’s too late but me i was graduated in college but still didn’t get my diploma due to have some financial problems but after i graduated I never think about my diploma as long as I know how to speak and think what’s the best for me . But thankfully with my ability to do some things and experience some things it helps me to survived I still have my own job even not related with my course I was graduated as an I.T but I work as a promoter I’ve experienced many job through my skills that made me survived from then till now . For me if there’s an opportunity I should’ve try it then I can add my experience with that experience I can use in the future and of course I can’t made this without my faith in God thank you Allah 🥰🥰🥰🤲🏻🤲🏻🤲🏻

Most filipinos dont understand that companies hire people with a degree because of this simple fact: You were a given a goal to complete in 4-5 years, showed up everyday, completed all tasks assigned to you, and got a grade of average to above average. A degree represents your discipline and determination to accomplish something. When you apply for a job, your employer expects the same thing from you, that you would show up everyday, do your job, and stay with the company for a few years. So a degree only matters if you want to find a job related to your course. But if your aim is to earn money, you should not be limited to what you've learned in school

The problem in the Philippines is that even after completing a good course, it is still difficult to find a job in the Philippines and the wages are low, not like skilled workers like bus drivers, carpenters, welders, automotive technicians, dairy farmers and bus drivers, they are in demand abroad like Canada, New Zealand and European Countries and high wages can obtain citizenship and you can petition your family.

The main reason why the poor level of education in the Philippines is systemic. Our corrupt leaders is making its best to limit this type of knowledge within the Filipino youth, yet given the number of youth who are standing up and are fighting disinformation and also that these people are the one making the Philippine economy move forward, good luck to the government. There’s a reason why a part of population isn’t a continuously gaslighted and kept poor, sad reality and hope it will soon change.

Many usually misunderstand the reason behind the grind for a degree. "Get a degree so you can be rich". No, that's not it. It's not about making money but the career path, that simple paper called diploma. Law students didnt pick law school just for money but to practice law. Med students go to med school to be a doctor. Engineers go to an engineering school to be an engineer. Accountants, Architects, Nurses etc. It is just the same for singers, athletes, artists, etc. It's not just all about getting rich, but being someone who you want to be. Dreaming for riches is just simply superficial. Everyone wanted that, I mean who tf doesnt? But not all can or even wish to be a doctor or a singer.
