“Upbadged” Is the SCATPACK A SRT?

SRT is no longer really a trim in the sense that it was years ago. It simply stands for Street Racing Technology. All 392s and Hellcats are built with Street Racing Technology. The badging is really just marketing, and for the 392, the SRT badge typically indicates that the car in question is fully loaded. The Scat Pack was designed to replace that "trim" and allow owners to select from a set of options that were otherwise standard on the 392 SRT. Only the Durango and Hellcats still have SRT in the trim level today. Again...just marketing, really. Since the SRT was discontinued in 2018, a fully-loaded 2023 Last Call Wide Body Scat is a better car. If someone adds the SRT badge to it, it's not really an "up-badge." It's just an aesthetic change. If someone puts an SRT Hellcat badge on a 392, or an SRT badge on a 5.7L or below...that would be up-badging. This whole argument is really just about making SRT owners feel elite (like they were before Scats came out). A stock 2017 392 SRT is not more desirable than a 2023 Wide Body Scat Pack. Badges and writing on an engine cowl isn't going to change that.

You don’t get leguna leather on a scatpack and it’s still a scatpack at the end of the day. Scatpack did not replace the SRT, they literally came out the same year in 2015. It’s branding and still separate cars. SRT is rare scatpack common.

You also don't get any new 392 SRTs after 2018...which would explain their rarity since they kept making Scats. You can say that a Scat isn't a 392 SRT. You can also say the 392 SRT is more rare than a Scat. But what you can't say is that it's better than a 2023 fully loaded wide body Scat. So if a person with a new WB Scat puts an SRT badge on his car, it's not an up-badge, it's a throwback.

@@Chestnut1998 My VIN says "Wide Body Scat Pack." A 392 SRT has an SRT badge in the front, back, seats, and steering wheel. My Wide Body Scat has SRT on the 4 Brembos and the engine. I'm not putting SRT anywhere else on my Scat because I like my Scat without it. 6 years ago, I would have loved an SRT. Hell, I owned one back in 2008 when the trim differences were a lot clearer. But the only way I would get an SRT today is if it was a Durango 392 SRT, or a Hellcat. Putting a 6+ year-old car against my brand new Scat...to me, that would be a downgrade. Only 392 SRT folks whine about badging.

Did a little research and Dodge took off the SRT on the Scatpack’s to help lower the insurance you pay. With the SRT badgering your insurance goes up. Very smart move from Dodge it’s the same car as a SRT just lower insurance cost

No it’s better!!! Here are a few reason why and how. 1. The scatpack in its rawest form is 300-375lbs lighter this is from having no sunroof no leather seats to include no sued and leather seats. Just the cloth seats and no heavier rear suspension as well as no heavy 6-piston brembo front calipers BOOM debate ended forget the SRT unless you got a CAT they are worthless compared to a scat that is entry level trim meaning none of the things listed above also I forgot the 9inch rim over the “SRT” rim 9.5” rims with 275/40/20 tires which is more weight the 9” 245/40/20 tires are lighter also for obvious reasons all this combined on paper makes the entry level scatpack a SRT KILLER right off the show room floor. Only way a scatpack loses to an srt is from driver era or if they got a fully loaded scatpack with all the above listed add on items. So if you are wanting to have a heavier slower car by all means deck your scatpack out or go find a srt Charger / Challenger pay 8k-15k more in add ons to literally be slower. Now let’s hear how I’m “wrong” 😂 because I’m not and all you owners out there with the wider rim leather and sued or full leather seats with the sunroof tell me how you beat these bare bone scatpacks 😂 because it’s cap with a touch of bad drivers 😂. #octanered392

Facts 💯 I had 2020 scat off show room floor with 8 miles on it and window sticker clearly says RT scat pack, so that’s exactly what it is and rt392 not an srt I know it hurts a little bit because I was fighting for same thing but did research and had to accept fact that it’s not an srt, so traded for hellcat which is SRT!!!😂😂😂😂

Short answer 15-17 now but since the Scatpack killed the submodel in 2018 the long answer is yes 18-21 scatpacks have all the SRT options. This debate is complete nonsense because ultimately they're the same car but the SRT was 10k over the price hence the reason nobody bought the SRT.

The SRT debate just comes down to semantics. 2021 Scat Packs have all the trimmings of an SRT (mechanically). It has the SRT engine as well as the SRT Performance Pages/Dashboard. But, technically, the only SRT trims that Dodge produces are Hellcats and Demons. It was a smart move for FCA to get rid of some of the trim levels to eliminate confusion and separate the Hellcats and Demons from the rest. It is similar to the Cadillac CTS-V. It has the C7 Corvette engine. So if you drove one of those you could say you were driving a Vette and technically not be wrong.

A Vette is a Sports Car while a Camaro is a muscle car. On the other hand, the CTS-V was essentially a Vette with Cadillac badges. The Scat Pack has the SRT branding which as you know stands for Street Racing Technology. If the Scat Pack has Street Racing Technology then it can be considered to be an SRT.

The only reason its not considered as an SRT is for insurance purpose. My widebody has SRT everywhere from factory from suspension to brakes, engine, infotainment system etc.. except the steering wheel which says dodge and the front grill says R/T which i debadge it. I have been debating to put an SRT badge on the grill to match the rest of the car but man there is too much controversy about this on the internet

That is not true the scat pack is not an SRT because SRT didn’t do any work on the scat packs they didn’t do any tuning on suspension or anything dodge did it at all the only thing is SRT is the motor because Dodge already had those built but srt which is street race technology had a disagreement with Dodge and a split in 2017 And that’s when the scat pack was born , Dodge had to keep making the car because it sold so well but they couldn’t label it as an SRT that’s why the engine is powered by SRT And scat pack doesn’t have the SRT tune on the engine and also doesn’t have the SRT tuned suspension Or the SRT tune to transmission so the SRT 392 is slightly faster than a scat pack which is due to the jump you get with the better suspension and the tune makes the engine run just slightly stronger these are the reasons that a scat pack is not a Srt.

Build your charger or challenger on dodge Add the dynamic package and adaptive damping suspension you’ll have a 392srt and nobody bought them so they discontinued making 392 srt because 1. At the end of the day this will always be an argument because of the fact that 6.1s had SRT badging and now the 6.4s are just modern day 6.1s. To me it’s an SRT because it’s “powered by SRT”. The motor trend article explains the difference in what features the old 392s had. it was literally just a package upgrade. No debate. Adaptive suspension, six piston brakes, flat bottom wheel, dynamics package, and leather seats. There is no “except”. If you add those features on a 2021 like I did (plus more) it’s the same car. The “srt” does not matter the only thing that does is the 392 hemi badge. If the srt teams parts are in your car and you opt for the upgraded package (like you did when you got your older 392) it’s a srt Charger/challenger. All srt stands for is street and racing technology. Key word technology. Scatpack srt debadged don’t matter if you have a 6.4 you have a 392 HEMI and that’s all that matter. You’re no closer to a hellcat because of three letters and both 392s are getting gapped just the same

I don't agree with you on this one troop. The motor says it all. I do agree that it should've been a different trim and kept the SRT name. I understand the argument because the scat pack was supposed to be a trim below SRT and at first I think the scat packs had r/t on them. To me back then it still was a SRT. My question to you is would you want the scat with an R/T badge or the Scat Pack logo?
