Thanks for the update! Just discovered your channel. I also fish out a of a paddle powered boat (OT Pack) and also do some inshore salt and inland smallmouth rocky rivers where I constantly use the paddle to dig in mud, sand, grass, and rocks. There is no way it could have lasted but I think you are totally right about apply it before the cold months and then as it wears off in the spring...down south those water drops feel good! Good job doing an update. looking forward to more of your content.

The best solution is to use the duct tape hack - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5SamGOZfNdniMU

I did the NeverWet too. It does wear off. However it works very well. It seems to wear off slowly. My final opinion is the NeverWet hack is a winner.
@KayakhacksFishing7 жыл бұрын
My next idea combines Neverwet with another hack with Neverwet used where it will not abrade off.
@LarryTalbot_13137 жыл бұрын
I'm looking forward to that! If it works, I'll be the first in line to buy another treatment!

After watching these vids I was reminded of the Rainex I picked up this morning for my windshield. That was a disappointing test. I think ill get some of this stuff to keep for this purpose. Thanks.

Actually, after more testing, the best solution only costs a penny or two - duct tape - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5SamGOZfNdniMU

I'll still use it. Thanks.

After watching the first video yesterday I went to the basement and found some silicone spray I use on tents and boots and sprayed one end. Then ran it under the sink water today. It ran off real quick while untreated end dripped for several seconds. I don't think it would last long in water, though. I may try the duct tape mod. I'll be paddling in fresh water. Thanks for the great tips, I'll be watching more videos.

The duct tape is the best solution! Cheap!

Have you thought about applying never wet to the bottom of tour kayak to aid in reducing drag?
@KayakhacksFishing7 жыл бұрын
Two things - I think the Neverwet would duplicate waxing and the racing guys proved that waxing actually slows their kayaks ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5aTg5x9qpqsopY ). Second, it would be way too expensive to cover the broad surface for something that would wear off as you drag the boat, deal with mud, grass and other things that rub against the bottom. But... good thought!

Kayak Hacks Fishing: Awesome. Thanks for getting back to me.
@LarryTalbot_13137 жыл бұрын
I agree, it would be just like we found with our paddles, but worse. One good oyster rash and there goes the whole application!
@Gkitchens15 жыл бұрын
It would not be worth the time. It would wear off quickly along the bottom of the kayak. It's a temporary coating not permanent.

@kambo2097 жыл бұрын
what if you coat never wet on the bottom of the boat? will it reduce friction?
@KayakhacksFishing7 жыл бұрын
It would be very expensive to do that and I think the result would be the same as waxing - which actuallly slows the kayak. See this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5aTg5x9qpqsopY
@slimjim74116 жыл бұрын
Actually it's been tested and does decrease drag on the kayak. However the result is not very spectacular. Since it's a kayak and not going very fast to begin with nothing is going to make a huge difference in speed or efficiency more than just the general design, and length/water displacement of the kayak. The rough surface acts like that of a golf ball and reduces drag by causing turbulence. Wax fills all the little voids, and makes it smooth. Which removes the turbulence, and basically increases surface area as well as weight a little bit. However again it's a kayak so the UV protection of the wax is probably worth the performance loss. Since UV rays like to degrade plastic.

What if you coated just half the paddle with Neverwet, from the shaft down, leaving the very end of the paddle uncoated. Would the drips hit the neverwet and drip off anyway? This would mean you wouldn't have to worry about it wearing off the end. Just a thought.
@KayakhacksFishing7 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea. I still have some Neverwet, I'll try it out.

Hey buddy did you use the whole 2 cans for one application of the never wet on your paddles? Ir would you get 2 applications?I just ordered some based of your great video!! Thanks!! Very helpful! I took my first ever kayak out for 45 min (lifetime tamarack) and after I came home I've now ordered 3 things...New seat, paddle rings and now the never wet!! I got soaked my first outing. Should be all set now.
@KayakhacksFishing5 жыл бұрын
I used one can and it was plenty. You should also dry the duct tape ideakzbin.info/www/bejne/r5SamGOZfNdniMU

What if you apply the Neverwet only on the shaft of the paddle, between the paddle and the drip ring? Would that work???

@LarryTalbot_13137 жыл бұрын
That's what I said on the original video, that it wears off. Almost exactly as mine did. But then again, I'm always pushing off shores, avoiding rocks, branches, etc. I use the paddle for everything, so that could be half my problem. I just can't imagine switching from paddle to pole all day long, just to avoid wearing it off it though.
@KayakhacksFishing7 жыл бұрын
I'm with you... forget the pole. It was still on where the paddle had not made violent contact with mud, etc... so it would work fine for a paddler as opposed to a digger like us.
@nathanfleming464 жыл бұрын
Wonder how well this would work and what it would affect if you put it on the bottom of your kayak.
@KayakhacksFishing4 жыл бұрын
I hope you saw the video on using duct tape - much cheaper. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5SamGOZfNdniMU To answer your question, all we need to do is look at what the professional kayak racers do. I read a post from one team where they tested waxing the bottom of the kayak. They discovered it actually slowed the boat down. It turned out that having grooves running from front to rear increased the speed. So, I do not think Neverwet would do any good. Way to expensive as well.
