My experience with a huge oak tree was similar. It barely missed the house but did totally smash my redwood greenhouse to bits. Still remember the crash of the breaking glass. We managed to save most of the citrus trees and plants inside and I am eternally grateful to the neighbors and my sons who came to the rescue. The clean up was the hardest part. Only one huge branch did all the damage but the entire tree had to be removed in pieces. The skilled arborist spent two full days lowering branches to the ground crew. And then there were the huge rounds of oak wood to move out of the garden and split for firewood. Its been 3 years and I love my new green aluminum and glass greenhouse, but my heart goes out to you. Thanks for listening to my saga.

Please use a sugar water mixture. 1 part sugar to 4 parts water.

$12k!!!! Probably cheaper to buy a good chainsaw and 2nd hand chipper. It will take time but should be good mulch or compost. Sorry about the crushed lilies and hydrangeas.

Can you speak to sowing cone flowers? I am getting conflicting info online with weather or not I should give them a period of “cold” climate before sowing? I have some different varieties… thought I could winter sow… but I rather do them under grow lights. Just unsure how early to start?

That's beautiful! And a great looking feeder too! The red dye in the nectar has been proven to be extremely harmful to hummingbirds, and it was only added because hummingbirds get attracted to red color. Turns out they will find the feeder anyway without the red dye too. 😊

Sorry about the tree! $12,000 is ridiculous! I would get myself a chainsaw and cut it up in small pieces and take them away in a wheelbarrow or find someone that wants the wood!
