I know Russian pretty well too. Pilot; Ground control, we could use your help, we have a problem. GC: What are you taking about, you are great Russian pilot in invincible airplane. Pilot: You are right, we were having a BBQ up here and the smoke is blocking our view. GC: It had better been good for you to be bothering me. Pilot: Well, forget we called, some of the beef ribs have fallen from the plane so we are ejecting to get them. GC: You cannot eject, you must stay in your cockpit to protect the Motherland. Pilot: TOO LATE, we are headed toward the ribs right now, tell our General we are just fine....

Pilot(s) were probably concerned about getting scorched right after ejecting. Also: were the pilots caught on the ground by Ukrainians? That's probably the main reason why the pilot kept asking about positioning.

I'd say the russian voice warning system is indeed very cool. On the contrary, on some US jets as the F16 and F18 the same system is called "Bitchin' Betty" which leaves me with the idea it actually does its worse to irk the pilot during an emergency. But would like somebody with first-hand knowledge to tell more.

The biggest problem with transferring F16’s or something similar isn’t that that pilots couldn’t handle the aircraft, they’d probably be fine after some check rides. It’s the maintenance systems. It generally takes years to get countries up to the ability to perform maintenance by themselves, plus setup the pipelines for materials. Even then they usually have several people from the aircraft company overseeing the operations to ensure it’s done correctly. And that’s during peacetime! Sending over 16’s would also mean sending over maintainers, which means troops in combat. Under the current circumstances that’s not possible.

@markbryant4641 2 жыл бұрын
@@tojodriver They're (China) definitely not in condemnation of Russia's decision to go into Ukraine. This is because China are also under constant pressure from the West. China and Russia are becoming closer together each day. They openly state, especially Russia that they can work together in a friendly way. Whereas when they work with the West they're working with countries who view China and Russia as an enemy. The West are to blame for the lead up to the invasion. It's as simple as that. BUT the decision to attack is totally Russia's. Check out what is happening involving Taiwan. It's the same thing again. The West is stirring up a war. The parallels between Ukraine/Russia and China/Taiwan are amazing. Be careful with your good-guys Vs bad guys-outlook. These situations are infinitely more complicated. It's also a very Hollywood way of looking at things. The danger there is that you're prediction for the outcome will also probably be Hollywood. The "good-guys' will triumph over evil. The Ukrainian army just suffered a HUGE loss. The first of a few that will inevitably come over the coming weeks and months. I'm not pro Russian. I'm predicting that Ukraine's army will collapse very soon. And I mean collapse. They can keep fighting, but their army will be destroyed. What happens then?
@Superknullisch
@Superknullisch 2 жыл бұрын
More like most of the West and some of the other nations. Yes, I know most of them voted to condemn the invasion. But that's not taking an active stance in general against Russia more than in that vote. Which frankly doesn't mean much, enen in the short term, politically. Also.. just China and India totals some 2,8 billion, so yeah.. close to half, or perhaps more than half, like Mark Bryant commented, are on Russia's side. That says a lot about how far humanity really has come. Western people in general, doesn't seem to understand that most of the world is still stuck in traditions from hundreds of years back, even millennia in some cases, although not to a 100% of course. But regarding their lifestyle and what they hold as most sacred; that has not changed almost at all. Also.. technology-wise, a lot of countries have a standard of industry, local workshops, and most infra structure, which dates back to at least the 1930-1960. And in quite a few cases though, even as far back as the second half of the 19th century. So no.. we haven't advanced our standards much overall in the world, at least compared to what it could've been and what westerners think the average level is. But morally, it has barely changed. Although, the access to internet has done a lot for millions of the younger generations in some regard.

I think that the reason why he's more concerned for the course of the jet than what's happening to a jet is because the whole route of the jet fighter was calculated and the best survival probability was connected to a route the jet was heading. So I guess that's why the pilot was so concentrated on keeping the course the best he could. I'm no pilot nor soldier, I just kinda logically think that is the reason.

I find it quite telling that most of the most modern military equipment is more or less modernized but still based on the latest developments of the Soviet era. That is now 30 years back. The same in civil space industry. Billions ended in the pockets of some oligarchs but very little innovation in comparison to the amount of the budget.

Heading might be getting called so urgently because they are yawing due to asymmetric thrust with the lost engine, risking a spin departure depending on air speed. They have two big vertical stabilizers to prevent this, but they have those two big stabilizers because they're susceptible to this mode of departure from controlled flight and at low airspeeds (losing thrust & climbing?) with asymmetric thrust they are less effective.

@Michael Lewchuk 1) Low yes and has been common in Ukraine, slow no, but if you're low and take a hit you might climb to handle it for many reasons and that will slow you. 2) Yes, by application of rudder and reducing thrust on the working engine, but it would become less effective as the airspeed reduces, high stress & high workload focusing on other tasks might prevent this. 3) He took a lot of damage, it seems likely that he had a massive fuel leak and a fire that was spreading throughout his aircraft. That fire was clearly not confined to one engine. Aircraft aren't covered in fire alarms. The engine fire alarms and extinguishers are there because it is a common problem. We can infer that when he was hit the aircraft either caught fire or developed a significant fuel leak. Then one engine caught fire, then the fire spread to the second engine, then the fire spread to some critical components of the flight control system, then the fire reached the cockpit forcing an ejection. Aircraft have a LOT of fuel on board, their wings and major parts of their fuselage are fuel tanks. Fire is so high risk that combat aircraft fuel tank ullage is purged with nitrogen gas to reduce the risk of immediate explosion. Set it on fire and provide a plentiful air at 150 knots and bad things happen quickly.

@dorbie Low... Well, yes and no. The whole air operations scheme in Ukraine has become very ineffective. First off, they don't push their fighters far into enemy territory because of operational Ukraine SAM sites which they fail to take out. To prevent detection from this flying low is an option, but they have then turned vulnerable to Ukraine MANPADS instead, which is actually quite plentiful. They have thus been forced to fly higher and stay away from SAM contested airspace. Generally.

It takes an estimated 6 months of training in a jet trainer, and that’s not including training in other aircraft, prior to being seated in an F-16 for an additional 9 months of training. The differences in flight systems between F-16’s and MIG-29’s is vast and requires intensive training.
@MarcosElMalo2
@MarcosElMalo2 2 жыл бұрын
I imagine it still takes months or training to move from one instrumentation and control configuration to another even if you’re using the same airframe. If the Polish Mig-29 layout is different from the Ukrainian one, it doesn’t mean the Ukrainian pilots can just hop in and fly combat missions effectively. So it might be more effective to convert from one config to another, but I have no idea how long that would take, nor do I know if the components are easily available. In the end, it might be wiser to send the Polish Migs to a chop shop to help Ukraine maintain the jets they already have in service. If Ukrainian flyers have already been training on F-16s, I don’t think they will pre announce it. It will be a surprise for the Russians (if the war doesn’t end first). There’s a stupid idea floating around out there that because it’s wartime and there’s more urgency, pilots can be trained faster. I don’t think it works that way, but I don’t believe U.S. pilots are trained at a leisurely pace.
@keithwood6231
@keithwood6231 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarcosElMalo2 Consider US pilots have 4 years of University at the Air Force Academy, are then chosen for what best fits their abilities, they’re then moved to propeller and then jet driven trainers followed by extensive training in their assigned airframe. You can easily expect at least 1.5 years of training before certification in a fighter aircraft.

Ukraine has to get all the weapons needed to fight off the nazi invaders from Russia. We need to have more of these recordings, way more. Preferably having the pilot's last words on them. Killing regular infantry helps, but getting rid of pilots is much more damaging to the russian invasion. One can go around Russia and find millions of gopniks to be conscripted, their training is cheap and easy. A pilot on another hand is much more difficult to replace.

Whenever they get to somewhere safe, they discover said “something”. He’s been updating us of the situation. But my nephew and his little family were able to get back to the states before the pandemic hit. They have twins boys who speak both Russian and English. Basic flight operations is easy. I would say a 1 week crash course program you could have pilots that are able to handle the plane from take off and fly around the air field and land again. Navigations and instrumentations probably 2-3 months. Advanced combat probably 5 years. The thing is that planes are a flying weapon platform, most weapon systems are fire-and-forget, so one doesn't absolutely need advanced training to take out targets but it certainly helps if things getting hectic.
