NO WAAAY!! Awesome video, very informative and well prepared! I was excited to see someone else thought to use a kong, only I used the smallest snowman shaped one, to more similarly resemble the meteor hammer. I threaded some parachute cord through the smaller hole and tied a knot so it wouldn't slip out, and shoved a 1" marble into the larger hole at the bottom to give it some weight. Done! I've been messing with it for a week now and looking to make something a little more serious. Thanks for sharing all of your research!! Play safe!

This is really great, thanks for including all of the mistakes along the way :) You may have already looked into it but my first thought would be to use something like a delta quicklink or two at the end so you can switch out practice balls or the kunai without changing your rope.

This is super useful! I just stumbled upon rope darts and your videos are great! I made one out of sash cord and a tennis ball filled with coins, but definitely got rope burn, and it felt to thin. Will follow your tips here and get some theater cord of a thicker length, and hopefully find one that's not a nylon core. Also I love that you went for whipping to secure the rope - a great chance to use knot tying skills. You got a new subscriber, and I see you have years of content for me to catch up on :)

Maybe you should try a hemp made rope. Also it's more expensive, but at a good adult store you can find some Japanese silk bondage rope. That stuff is pretty comfortable on the skin. The bonus is if it turns out doesn't work well for a rope dart you still have some useful bondage rope. ;)
@Xolette10 жыл бұрын
I didn't know they made a silk version. Actually, Tom Fazio uses a strip of silk for his meteor hammer, so that'd be an interesting option. Thanks! Is it important that the twine be waxed and that it is sail maker's twine, as opposed to the kind of twine that can be obtained at most any store? Does the wax make it easier to "whip" or does the wax make it last longer/make it more durable?
@Xolette10 жыл бұрын
I believe the waxed twine is necessary as the strings within the twine would just separate and be difficult to thread into the rope itself. But you can always experiment and see if it works... or find a way to wax the twine that you have.

Is "theatrical tie line" the same as theatrical cord? and does is matter if it's "uncoated"?

Great minds think alike I guess. Used a monkey fist knot around one of the rubber balls you get out of one of those toy dispensers with the turn knobs. Never thought about using the eye bolt, thanks for the info. I've toyed off and on with the meteor hammer for a while now. I've come to believe the weapon suits a female better than a male. A woman's grace and eloquence compliment the weapon's soft subtle deadliness. Keep up the good work. Being the cumbersome brute that I am, I'll keep my sticks and watch in envious admiration.
@Xolette10 жыл бұрын
Just a warning about the toy rubber balls-- they were not dense enough to keep the screw eye in...so it's important to have a tight monkey's fist knot to keep it secure. And it's best to use rope that's low stretch. I just redid my paracord rope dart with cotton rope and it's working just fine. As for women being better using this weapon, I actually have a chain whip video that stars two women doing all the movements, so maybe you're right. They look the most...elegant out of all the "instructors" I've watched and they're also members of a Wushu team. Although, Shi Debiao, who is short, and a little on the heavy side, he is a monster when it comes to chain whip... not as graceful as the women I've seen, but his energy is awesome! Shaolin Chain Whip (jiu jie bian)

I don't post many videos being short wide and round. Trolls unfortunately seek out dudes like me. Keep up the good work and thanks for the info.

Thanks Xolette. That makes so much sense. I found waxed cotton thread and waxed cotton cord at hobby lobby, but Is waxed thread the same as waxed twine? And does polyester (I know that is what the amazon twine is made if) matter over cotton? Anyway, the waxed thread is $9.99 for 100 yards which, if that can be used, is about 19 cents cheaper (not factoring in tax though) per foot than the amazon polyester waxed twine, according to calculator breakdown. The waxed cotton cord is not as good a deal as the waxed cotton thread at $3.47 for a 25 yard spool. They both look exactly the same though, visually. Okay. Just wanted to ask another question and let you know about the waxed cord and thread at hobby lobby. They're in the leather crafting aisle, which at this hobby lobby is exactly in the middle of all the aisles in the back of the store.
@Xolette10 жыл бұрын
Twine's definition: "strong thread or string consisting of two or more strands of hemp, cotton, or nylon twisted together. synonyms: string, cord, thread, yarn". So the cord and thread are most likely the same. You can look up the pro and cons of polyester vs. cotton to see which material you'd rather use. And I believe the waxed version just makes it easier to do the whipping, as the strands don't come apart. Best of luck in with what you choose. The twine I used can be found here: www.amazon.com/dp/B00DKA34VE/ref=cm_sw_su_dp

Wouldn't the 'rope dart' that has a ball at the end be considered a 'meteor hammer', Not a dart?
@Xolette6 жыл бұрын
Essentially, but a meteor hammer is traditionally a very heavy metal sphere with I believe a longer rope. Rope darts are bit more common, and this is just a practice rope dart (you can say practice meteor hammer I suppose?). In this case the dart can be replaced with anything from a ball to a bag of sand. I believe Tom Fazio recommended a bag of gummy bears to use with his long sash. Hope that makes sense!
@jonnupe16456 жыл бұрын

Haha... the bruises do look like finger marks in the video, but they're not. They did look like I had wrapped rope around my arms or something. I did get a couple more bruises from my kong dart pegging me in the legs during practice. You can't see it on my dark freaking legs though!

Bruises? Bondage rope? It all makes sense now...

Do you know what the downside to using sash cord would be? Is it too stretchy? The ones I'm finding are 100% cotton and I found some 5/16" like your theater cord. Its very cheap but I don't want to buy it if its going to stretch or break. (The one I was looking at: www.knotandrope.com/store/pc/5-16-solid-braid-cotton-p830.htm?atc=1&idproduct=830)

I would have to ask the seller if it's low-stretch.. or just search for other ropes that are marketed as low-stretch. I'm assuming most sash cord should be made to be low stretch and durable as it's function is either to hang up clothes or for pulling open windows; whereas the bondage rope I got... being stretchy added to it's "comfort". :) Best of luck!

Xolette ok, thanks for the quick response! I tried calling earlier but they're closed on Sundays. Will be calling again tomorrow. Looking forward to your 2 upcoming vids :)

What about a lacrosse ball? Too big?
@Xolette9 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. My baseball rope dart is my heaviest rope dart and it's also a large in size. It all depends on what you want to do in practice. If you want something similar to a rope dart (and your dart to move faster), then you'd go for a dart that is of a smaller size and lighter weight. Hope that helps!

Laura Lee Did you see this first video I made... at around 3:56 it has all the tips about making a monkey's first: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a56uioSflJusiLc If you've seen it, let me know where you are getting stuck. Remember, a thin rope, like paracord will be a nightmare on something as large as a lacrosse ball. A wider rope, like one that's 5/16" in diameter works well. You can also practice on something smaller, like a marble using paracord just to get a feel for the knot.
@Xolette9 жыл бұрын
Laura Lee Also, getting the number of passes right is essential. It's not uncommon to have to do this type of knot several times, as by the end, you sometimes realize, "Agh, I need less passes!" Read the description in the link I for tips on how to get the right number of passes.

The flag was ment to keep the rope from becoming slippery with blood

Mr. DiZzY I also thought the flag stabilised the dart in flight

Would paracord work well?
@Xolette10 жыл бұрын
No, because it's too thin. When I tried it, it began to burn my index finger. Go for a rope that's 7 mm or 5/16" in diameter. At least that's what I prefer and I tried many different diameters.

I grew up on Kung Fu movies I've always wanted to learn waited dart and rope I got a meteor hammer this thing is dangerous didn't realize what I got if you have a lighter less deadly one I will trade no money just shipping
@Xolette3 жыл бұрын
Maybe you can remove the meteor hammer and replace it with a softer rubber ball. Splitting the o-ring with a hacksaw and then closing it worked well for me.

+Xolette I have seen places online that allow you to buy a Rope Dart but they say they are for performance and practice only and not actual combat.I am a little confused by this,is this line just a legal way of saying that they aren't responsible if you or anyone gets hurt?because the darts are 5.5 onces i think that is combat ready right?

How many times have you accidentally punched yourself in the head with the full weight monkey fists? By this point, I would have many times.
@Xolette10 жыл бұрын
Don't get me started! :) Ever since I started learning the head turn drills... I've been getting messed up! In particular, I'm working on a drill in which a head turn transitions straight into an elbow turn. That drill, I'm constantly hitting myself in the head! But I only practice the drills that need work with my lightest rope dart... for that reason. I'm glad I decided to not practice with a metal dart. I'd be in the hospital by now!

I dunno about you, But my friend and I use 550 Paracord, it works very well, and reduces the drag. The one i've been using has been through hell, the weight on the end wore out before the rope. Here it is in use: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGSygIymmbaZpqs

Gorsché I'm way-y-y-y late to your nine year old youtōōb how-to! But thanks for the tips! My Kung Fu Sifu always had me focus on Tai Chi sword and rattan staff; actually he never taught us the rope dart (maybe because his school's ceiling wouldn't allow).

Yeah, I think the only way to practice is outside or in a gymnasium!
