One thing I've learned from Harley Benton is that you should always go for the most expensive model you can afford as the higher end ones really are great. The lower end ones tend to be VERY hit and miss. They just released a new Fusion III in matte black, roasted maple neck/board, locking tuners and EMGs. Thank you for your honest observations as well as explaining not only what you don't like about it, but why as well. I have been fortunate enough that I've only had one guitar that I was very unhappy with (it, or the neck and fretboard, fought me every time I tried to play it for a over 3 years). Since it was a Fender Stratocaster, instead of trying to trade it in or selling it, I opted to replace the neck with one that fits my preferences, and have been extremely happy ever since. (And yes I still have the original neck to return it to all original should I ever be in a position where I have to try to liquidate it.) I'm not sure if that is a viable option for you with this guitar. Thank you again for another informative demo and review. Please keep them coming.

Their Dullahans and fusions are pretty awesome. The only downside are that the pickups are kinda weak. I bought their Paisley Telecaster purely because of the body. I was ready to replace everything else. Thankfully, I only needed to replace the pickups. I recently bought a Harley Benton MB4 SBK bass. It is matte black with an oval tortoise shell pickguard and one humbucker. It is shaped like a Music Man Stingray and, if I may say so, looks great. I have one previous experience with Harley Benton having bought a Beat Bass five or six years ago. That bass cost approx. $130 plus shipping from Europe. It has a flawless sunburst finish and plays and sounds much better than its price would indicate. I bought the new Harley Benton based partly on my experience with the older one. The MB4 SBK also had a flawless finish when it arrived and looked as good as it did in advertisements and KZbin videos. When I played it, it sounded quite good, but had a buzz that I could not fix by simply adjusting the truss rod and bridge saddles. The problem turned out to be that the plastic nut was filed too deeply. I bought a Graph Tech nut as a replacement. The fun started when I attempted to remove the old nut. It would not pop out like the many previous nuts that I have replaced. It was apparently cemented in. When I tried to pry it up out of its slot, it took a chunk of wood with it!! To make a long story short, I glued the wood back in place and painted over the break. I then installed the new nut. I was still not done, however. The bass had three high frets. When I filed, crowned and polished them, it played like it was supposed to. The HB is now O.K.. Fortunately I am an amateur luthier and was able to fix it. A beginner would not be able to do so. Repairs by a guitar tech would most likely cost more than the price of the instrument itself. (I paid approx. $110 plus $82 shipping from Europe.)

I have around 14 guitars, and 4 bentons + I setup around 30. Maybe 3 were really bad, mosty b stocks. Most of the time all i had to do is turn a truss rod and maybe polish the frets. Thats it. BTW. Bentons are mostly targeted to europeans, because they cost way less in European Union and i think is a thing to consider. And in their price range i have yet to find a better guitar :)

But, i had it fixed. Didn't cost me too much and it was totally worth it! I also got the matte black custom plus, wich also has 'great specs' but i don't really like that one. It has neckdive and it's not really comfortable to play, at least to me. As enthousiastic I was about the Amarok BT so dissapointed I am about the custom plus. @@thebaldshredder Weird. I didn't know a line 6 could sound that good. Allow me to explain. I went to a house moving sale off of craigslist. No joke, these people were selling an ibanez guitar, a line 6 spider amp 30 watts and a small vox da 5 amp, all for $60.00! ( It was a few year back ) Anyway, I offered the $50.00, and they said they are not going any lower than $55.00. So $55.00 it was. I'm all excited, I know I got a steal of a deal. As I'm driving home I thought the first thing I'm going to do when I get home is get rid of that vox and make my money back. Which would make it seem like I received the line 6 and the guitar for free. Well before putting the vox up for sale I wanted to see what it sounded like. I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THIS LITTLE AMP! So much so, I immediately took it apart to see what type of tubes were in there. There were no tubes! It sounded way better than the line 6 I had, so I sold the line 6 instead. Back then, line 6 guitar amps sounded muddy and milked over, like you couldn't hear the true great sound you were hoping to achieve. And yes, I did see the line 6 behind you but us guitarists we use many different amps and guitars. So just because the line 6 was behind you, it doesn't mean that it was the amp you were using while doing this video. Because of my experience with that particular line 6 amp I didn't think you were using the amp behind you because it sounds so good. Maybe the line 6 I had was a dud?

I think your assessment of this guitar is very fair. I own about 20 guitars. Some pricey. Some cheap. I own 1 Harley Benton. Their 8 string fanned fret neck-thru Fusion. I had to do a lot of set up work, some fret leveling, some fret end work, rounded off the nut edge, and had to slap in EMG 909's (due to pickup route size and the stock pickups were garbage). Fortunately, the neck is the perfect profile. After all that work, it plays great and sounds like an absolute monster! I recent bought an 8 string Strandberg Boden Metal. I had to do just as much setup work and fret leveling on the Strandberg. That being said, I ended up very happy with the Harley Benton and slightly disappointed with the Strandberg. I mean, now that I've setup the Stranderg it plays great, but when it arrived, it had horrible fret buzz issues on every string.

From Leo: The cheapest is always the cheapest in every aspect. You do not generally get much at that price. I have had good luck three times with the middle priced offerings. Even though you bought the cheapest one without ever seeing or touching one in real life, your biggest beef is your preference, not the guitar actually being defective. BTW, the demonstration of your playing skills was still pretty impressive. You actually proved the guitar is fully capable of playing well.
@thebaldshredder2 жыл бұрын
Correct. It's not defective. However it's a design flaw. The neck could be thinner and frets bigger and should be for this style of guitar. Plus their website says D shape neck profile when it's actually a thick C. So yeah my review is based on my personal preference and I said as much in the video. I can play it but it's not comfortable or enjoyable because of the neck. Others may like it. Just not for me.

That's why I stopped getting Harley Bentons. My Amarok is speced really well. The neck was described as a thin modern C. It's thicker than my bass guitar's neck.

Yes it's really disappointing that they misrepresent it. I'll never buy another one.

@@thebaldshredder I think all of their guitars are like that too. I had always wanted a 76 Gibson Explorer and a white SG but they are so expensive so I got the HB versions. I'm selling them because of the neck profiles. The HB explorer feels like they took a thick PVC pipe, cut it in half, and based their neck of off it.

You are 100% correct! But I've played many Jacksons, all the way from the cheapest and up to USA custom shop. Never tried a Harley Benton, so I was really curious to try one.

Ok you bought a beginner /budget guitar and want to complain about things you yourself said took you years of playing to notice.(The fret size) How long is a beginner going to be learning before it is an issue for them? Also no beginner is going to start out shredding more like learning a couple easy heavy sounding riffs if they are into metal. So basically you bought a guitar never intended for your skill level and want to judge the whole range of guitars based on the entry level beginner model? Do you judge Fender custom shop guitars by buying a squire bullet? I have played that guitar I do not own one but it is miles better for the price and quality than the beginner guitar I bought in the early eighties and paid 250 for.

First, let me congratulate you on being completely wrong. That was quite an effort. The company's description of this guitar, on their website, listed it as being for "virtuosos." That was lie number one. Then they said it was good for "lightning fast speeds." That was lie number two. So who is this guitar for, virtuosos or beginners? The company says virtuosos. Feel free to watch the two videos I made about this guitar after this one. Then you'll know that the company contacted me, apologized for their mistakes, and then changed the description of the guitar on their website and even removed those terms that were completely false, just as I said. So to sum up, even the company said I WAS RIGHT! Again, congratulations on getting the whole thing wrong.

@@thebaldshredder Any guitar under 200 bucks is for a beginner no matter what the marketing says. You probably sent off for the sea monkeys in the back of comic books expecting them to be just like the picture. Ive played crappy entry level jacksons, fenders, esp ltd etc.. What I don't do is judge an entire brand off their cheapest model. Hell I have an 88 les paul standard that really isnt that great of a guitar not considering the price I paid for it.

Actually Harley Bentons are great but somewhere the savings have to come. And the savings in HB's case come from quality controls. Usually the tools are perfect, but the bad ones are still put up for sale. For example, I ordered the same bass 3 times. The first one was a good instrument but I broke it. When I reordered it I received a buggy and unplayable bass. After I returned it, a little jewel arrived at my house, better than the first one and absolutely perfect. If I covered the brand I could sell my bass as a €1000 instrument now when in reality I paid €160 for it. What I mean is that HB doesn't save money by producing low quality instruments that sound like shit, HB saves money by producing excellent tools with inexpensive components, but he does it in large quantities and very quickly without much control over the finished product. Thus very different instruments are put on sale and you have to be lucky to find the one that is worth 10 times its price instead of the one that is pure junk. There's not much to say about your feeling problem... They wrote something invented on the site.

Not sure what you're expecting for 109.00 have you seen the guitars at walmart that cost more? ha.. Their cheaper guitars aren't that great. But their 150-400+ guitars are really good. I have 5 of them and not one of them was bad. These cheaper "matte Black' series guitars Hb is putting out I think is for the younger beginner kids.

Finally an honest opinion, seen other folks have a lot of issues on these 'affordable' guitars. Costs more than a guitar to fix them, if it can be done at all. Easier to sell it to another unfortunate noob
@thebaldshredder2 жыл бұрын
In the case of this guitar, yes definitely easier to sell to someone else. But I do have other great affordable guitars that I've done work on that made them go from just ok to amazing. And it didn't cost me hardly anything to do it. So it can go either way.

This is a KZbin hyped guitar and nothing more! The cost is low because of the simple fact that IT IS CHEAP and thrown together with little attention paid to QC (As they can't take the time because of the cost) Not saying you can't get one that is ok because you can BUT at the end of the day it's cheap for a reason and you are getting NOTHING more than what you paid for. It is comedy hour for me on KZbin when a so-called review states that it is just as good as a guitar costing twice as much FFS! Any brand can get an accurate cut off a CNC machine BUT after the fact is when you need people involved (The most important part mind you) and that is where HB cuts the cost as they just can't take the time at this price point plain and simple as for the most part you get what you pay for! I have been playing guitar for a long time as I am 52 years in age and still suck mind you BUT in my experience with new guitars for something that just needs a set-up and has decent quality components it will be out of Indonesia with a price point of 1k OR more and that's just the way it is today! Never understood why people buy cheap and spend more in the end to upgrade a cheap guitar when you could have purchased it from the start and saved money in the process...

The problem is that they lie about it in the description of the guitar on their site. It says: " features a D-profile best suited for guitarists with virtuoso ambitions. The ample cutaway opens up the high frets for playing at lightning-fast speeds." Not true at all. Everything else I can expect from a cheap guitar, but lying about the neck profile is unacceptable.
@Will-sg1qq2 жыл бұрын
You complain about one of their cheaper models 🤦
@thebaldshredder2 жыл бұрын
Cheap has zero to do with the thickness of the neck or the size frets they put on it. They save no money by doing a thick C shape instead of a thinner D shape. And they falsely advertise it in the description. I've bought even cheaper guitars with thinner necks and bigger frets.
