There was a lady who couldn't get on because she forget her passport, but the husband went on the ship. Speaking as a married guy, if I went onto the ship and left the wife behind in the port, pretty sure the locks to the house would be changed when I got back

Maybe they agreed to it? We paid for a party cruise, I found out I was pregnant. My husband found a roommate to take over my ticket, he went on the cruise and I stayed home. That's what we agreed upon.

I recently read that Mom booked the cruise saying 3 people would be in the room, she is an adult, the kids were technically minors. Mom never intended to go, so RC determined that a person was no show. Minors can’t cruise without an adult.

This makes sense based on the 'no show' explanation provided by Royal Caribbean corporate office. That's a good reason to deny a full refund unless the room is given to someone else.😢

Looking at this as a travel agent 1 of two things happened here. 1: Both were between 18-20 and royal denied boarding because no one was over 21 in the cabin. This is highly unlikely as the travel agent/agency would’ve stopped that immediately. 2: They bought the full drink package and then tried to charge back a portion of it (trying to have 1 person with the package and then share with the other) or all of it and Royal wasn’t having it. A chargeback is a disputed charge, it’s not a security feature. Also, many sailings with royal are sailing fully booked and are still accepting “waitlist” bookings where you can pay the fare and if there is a cancellation then you get a cabin. That would explain why the cabin was filled with such short notice. Or there could’ve been a toilet not flushing or something of the sort and the couple was moved to the other room. Also, the new couple could’ve had a guarantee room and were assigned the now open room at check in. I feel like mom is leaving out some critical details. This stuff doesn’t “just happen” randomly. Especially when you look at the refunded amount. There’s more to the story.

@@Dangic23 that’s what I’ve been thinking as well. She keeps saying “kids” and then refers to them as adults when revisiting the age, yet mommy is handling everything. I feel like if that is the case, she was made aware of the 21+ policy and tried to pull a no-show fast one thinking Royal would just let it slide. If that’s the case (and I can’t believe I’m about to say this about a massive corporation) I hope Royal sues her into oblivion for defamation and slander.

This has nothing to do with the credit card. If there were a problem with the credit card, the Cruise Planner dept would have just reported the fraud and the drink package would have been canceled. The CRUISE wouldn’t have been affected at all.

I've booked several cruises through a cruise travel agent. I always get emails directly from Royal Caribbean. The mom is doing all of the so-called "legwork" for "the kids". My guess is, The kids got an email telling them there was an issue but, since they obviously don't do crap for themselves, they just figured magic fairies would take care of it... Or mom.

I am not a travel agent or anything like that, however, I work at customer service and that lady looks exactly like a customer to come claiming to be treated poorly because of the incompetence of the company (the first video) and then when the customer realize is their own fault try to do a come back like saying the problem was the way it was handle or watherver (second video). My guess is she got the son version, then she went ranting online to trash RC and now she find out the whole history (or most of it) and realize somehow it was their own fault and now she is trying to avoid look like a "Karen"... That's just my personal opinion

I think the “young adults” were under 21 and she booked the cruise for them with her in the room and she decided not to go. They will turn you away if someone in your cabin isn’t 21

I suspected that, when she said young travelers.... i thought one person in the party may not have been of age...similar to a car rental even though you can drive you need to be a certain age to rent the car type of thing...i hope we get the full story i hate to blame rccl based on partial facts

The kind of husband who repeatedly told the spouse to renew the passport, or to pack the passport and leave it alone. I left a dear friend on the dock as I embarked due to the friend refusing to bring his passport as he "did not need it." I enjoyed the spaciousness of a cabin all to my self as he spent the week shore side reading the rules and acknowledging his pig headedness kept him from a great week at sea. Some folks can only learn the hard way. Tough lessons learned each and every one.

Some people cruise often. If they live in Florida and drove to the port maybe it just didn't mean as much to them to separate and let the husband go. Maybe she went to drive home to get the correct passport or birth certificate to try to join him at the next port or something. People that cruise all the time vs traveling across country would just think differently. OR they hate each other and husband has enough. Lol

Several years ago I booked a last minute cruise, and it literally was last minute. The people who had booked the room (honeymoon cruise) no-showed and we got their cabin the afternoon the cruise was departing. The cruise line is not making money on empty cabins, they will sell those "no-show" cabins for a really cheap price just to get someone in them.

Another cabin probably got upgraded to their cabin (she had said it was a balcony cabin). I also work on cruise ships as a traveling manager and often get put in guest cabins that were either not booked or guests no-showed. It most likely was not a case that RCL re booked that cabin. The kids are obviously not telling mom the whole story. There absolutely was a reason they got denied boarding that they haven’t shared with mom yet. This mom is NEVER going to tell the whole story and just try making RCL look like the bad guys

Cruise lines allow under 21 guests to book a cabin if they are a married couple with a document. Also applies to military under 21 with ID. Regular bookings at least one guest in cabin has to be 21.

A chargeback is a very specific term used to describe the Reversal of a transaction. Think of it as the credit card company "undoing" a completed transaction after the fact due to a customer raising a specific dispute about the goods or services they purchased or not receiving said goods/services. Businesses get punished and fined by the credit card companies if they receive a large number of chargebacks, as it makes the business itself look like they are shady or have fraudulent business practices. If the couple purchased something like a drink package and later determined that they made a mistake and didn't want the package, they could have gone to the credit card company and try to reverse and refund the entire transaction. Cruise line will obviously be upset with this (as perhaps a refund is not warranted/allowed after the purchase) and will likely cancel the entire reservation and/or ban the guests from cruising because they went the 'nuclear' option of doing a chargeback on the credit card rather than trying traditional refund/credit procedures. We definitely need the full story behind the use of the word "chargeback", as it has absolutely nothing to do with transaction approval or prior validation, and is them trying to buy something and then get a refund back so that they don't have to pay.

Any add ons that you can purchase can also be canceled before the cruise and the money refunded to the original form of payment. If they did a charge back thinking they'd get the money back on their card quicker then that might have been the issue. People who did charge backs to get their refunds for covid canceled cruises quicker found themselves on the no sail list when cruising resumed.

Right, it seems like something is being left out concerning this whole ordeal. I know mistakes and glitches can happen all the time but the Cruiselines I’ve cruised with are always willing to make accommodations to make your cruise enjoyable, at least that has been my experience on Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruiselines.

I work for a credit card company, there are procedures in place for this very scenario. AMEX would know that this was a purchase from a cruise ship, and that it is NOT for the cruise fare. The verification process kicked in because they were attempting the chargeback, not because of the large purchase. They were trying to pull a scam and got caught in addition to being underage. For both the cruise and the drinks package. I also agree Mom was the TA. There was no TA.

100 agree!! I would really like to hear Royal Caribbean’s side of the story. It doesn’t make sense that Royal would refuse boarding AND not refund the full purchase price, unless the couple were in breach of the terms and conditions of the sale.

I check my cruise reservation online, then recheck it several times leading up to the cruise, then check it AGAIN the day before. I'm roughly 30 days out from my upcoming cruise and checked my reservation 3 weeks ago and found some pending charge appeared out of no where. I booked direct with NCL and called them. Turns out it was a glitch in the system and additional paid up gratuities were added. They said it was a system glitch and removed it. Save all your receipts when you make payments to the reservation and add on anything. Also, NEVER EVER put your wallet, purse, ID, money, medication in a checked bag. NEVER DO THAT! This is taking a turn for the worse for Mommy and the kids. Something is not right at all with their side of the story. Happy 250k The Shiplife!

I find it hard to believe that when they were denied boarding, no explanation was given. I think her son just doesn’t want to tell his mom. Also, like you said, if someone was already in their room (why would the other couple even check that), they must have gotten a cancellation email before they left for the port. Or maybe someone at RC screwed up and don’t want to admit it.

I still think it's an age issue. I believe that the under 21 person needs to be a family member of the over 21 person in the cabin. The drink package issue was likely caused because if 1 person has a package then everyone in the room needs to have a package. And a drink package will not cause a situation where u cannot board a paid for cruise. Add to it that mom is the one taking charge, leads me to further believe that it was an age issue. No mention of using the TA prior to this. No mention of kids ages. She didn't even bring up potential age issue. She is seeing similar posts on wherever she posted video. To not address age...

I don’t think that we’re getting the whole story here. Why is the adult child of this woman depending upon his mother to call Royal Caribbean? She mentioned that she wanted him to “do some of the legwork” but why is he not capable of taking care of himself?

I'm glad you mentioned the credit card issue. I have read about people putting items in their carts and not paying for them (like airport transfers) and then having their cruise cancelled, and told no refund!

Not on Royal. Sometimes it happens on NCL and it’s unacceptable when they do it. But this isn’t possible with Royal because of the way they separate their departments. The cruise planner department and the reservations department have entirely separate accounting depts. They don’t talk to each other except when reservations initiates a refund. It doesn’t ever go the other way.

I've heard of this happening and that's just crazy. If you don't complete the purchase, then it's not added to your cruise. That shouldn't get your whole reservation canceled 🙁

I am 72 , never been on a cruse, never will. Travel by air and land. Never had a problem . Never sea sick, clean rooms, good food , never sick after got home. Enjoy your cruise ….. not for me.

Someone being in their room does not necessarily mean that room was sold to someone else. The first day of the cruise is the day most cabin changes occur due to people not being satisfied with their cabins, upgrades, AC not working, fridge not working, etc.

If one passenger buys a drink package in a cabin, the policy is that all adults in that cabin must also buy a package for obvious reasons. The mother says there was a chargeback (meaning credit card holder disputed the charge), which appears the couple was trying to only have one drink package for the cabin after having paid for two of them upfront, which would have been required. If so, I get why RLC doesn’t like these kinds of stunts. Since the couple only disputed one drink package between them, the couple knew they were trying to go around RCL policy. And why the hell is Mommy Dearest running interference on this??? Life 101-the adult kids need to clear this up!

This is now atleast three times that a drink package or excursion not being paid on time has prevented someone from cruising. Honestly, that needs to change. If you paid to cruise then you need to be able to take the cruise! If you didn't pay for drinks or an excursion then obviously don't take it or pay a different way on the ship.

This does happen on NCL because they put all monies into one reservation bucket (look at your confirmation for NCL and you’ll see things like drink packages and WiFi). So anything you attach to your reservation will show as a balance. Royal doesn’t do that. Their accounting teams for cruise planner and reservations are entirely separate. You can’t put a drink package into a Royal reservation so that it shows as part of the balance (look at your Royal confirmation to see the difference). Something else is going on here and it almost certainly has to do with the passengers themselves.

Someone suggested that the Mom, or someone else over 21, purchased the room for the supposed "young adults", both under the age ofe of 21, and then never showed up to check into the room. This also seems like the reason for their long wait, and then eventual cancellation. At the same time, something's not quite right about the Mom, she seems very much like she's baiting for clicks...

If RCL canceled the booking in advance, for what ever reason, that should have removed it from the app as well as the website...so how was the couple able to print boarding passes and luggage tags?

Exactly. The cruise was canceled after they showed up at port and an issue was discovered. The issue has to be something to do with the passengers, but you know he’s not telling his mom that 😂

Pretty sure when they weren't allowed to board, someone else won their Royal Up. I doubt the cabin was overbooked or double booked. I'm guessing one or both of the kids were under age.

a friends nephew and niece in law new parents with the baby had to fly from across the country to see the great grandmother who was in the process of dying so she couldn’t come out to them and on the way back they thought it would be a great idea to check all the luggage including the diaper bag and of course then something happened and their bags went somewhere else and then they missed their connection and had to stay overnight at an airport. Their uncle and grandparents sent them money for supplies it was just a giant cluster you know what!

In my experience, you are reminded several times before you enter the terminal about leaving valuable items in your checked luggage. The parking attendants, shuttle drivers, and especially the porters all repeatedly stress this caution.

Fro they umpteenth time, the cruise was paid for and they were not cancelled. Had RCCL cancelled the reservation for non-payment they would not have been allowed to check their bags. They ran into a problem at the document check. If they had an invalid passport, they would have been told so. If they offered a bad credit card for drinks or shipboard account, they would have been asked for another or a cash deposit. If the names on their passports did not match the names on their reservations, they would have been told so. The only thing that makes sense is that they did something very wrong; either a law enforcement issue, or they're on a no-sail list. Even if this a big misunderstanding, the kids should have some idea of whats going on. Either way, they are lying to Mom and are probably embarrassed that Mom is blowing this all over the internet.

Notice on the thicktok she has the words "you were a NO SHOW"? Her or someone else was probably the only adult (21 or older) on the booking and didn't show, RC can't let minors sail by them selves. These videos are a grab for views, hoping to shame RC into a refund.

I had 1 bad experence with leaving my luggage with ship porters about 15 years ago where I did not get my luggage until the next day and my luggege appeared to have been rummaged through. Nothing was missing but I was wierded out! Never have left any luggage since then. We carry on everthing with us.

It is possible that if there was someone else in their room it was a post-embarkation change. Guest services is always very crowded just after sailing with folks trying to change rooms. Been there--done that--have a T-shirt. We did have an issue on a transatlantic cruise when our credit card (USAA BTW) was put on hold due to a fraud alert that we did not respond to because we were in middle of Atlantic. We only found out when guest services notified us we needed another CC for our shipboard account. I wonder what would have happened if we only had 1 CC and could not straighten out the fraud alert hold.

I hope we find out where the "glitch" was so that other passengers don't make the same mistake. Still there are more questions. I know a lot of people that are interested in taking a cruise for the first time and they know I have taken many, so they ask me questions. I make suggestions to go on Cruise Critic to get an idea of companies, ships, problems, challenges, requirements, etc., as a starting point. Up front I tell them to get a passport and travel insurance. I relay some stories of instances where someone's vacation was ruined because of not taking the time to learn about cruising. I think it's more likely that the people in their cabin were upgraded to that cabin at the port because this young couple's booking had been cancelled and the room was now available OR the friends didn't have the room number right.

Two recent stories about luggage came to mind. One was where the luggage was stored Outdoors and it rained, the other was then the loading equipment failed and dropped a pallet of luggage in the water. If it's that important, then carry it yourself.

I flew home from college with a bunch of luggage that being one of the pieces. When I picked the box up at Dulles airport they had managed to split a board out of it! This was a solid wood box painted blue made of utilitarian wood but long before regular lumber became weaker. I accused them of unloading the luggage before landing as we had had to make a couple of tries because of the winds delaying landing! I still have the box, it’s still missing the broken out board and one board that was a handle on one side of the “trunk”!

Not true, they take responsibility for the luggage. They shouldn't damage it. Otherwise then they should tell people to carry all their luggage on, which they definitely do not want people doing. However, it's just plain dumb to put money, medication and other valuables in a suitcase. I honestly feel like them saying they had cash in there is a lie. I feel like even a young adult couple would know better than to do something like that.

Here's a theory I saw that made a lot of sense... mom was the travel agent.. which is why she keeps saying "I don't believe it's the TAs fault".. also mom probably booked the trip with her being the 3rd passenger in the cabin.. she never planned on going but the 2 "young adults" are 18-20. The issue with the drink package is probably because 1 or both of the young adults were can't drink.. also since mom "3rd adult over 21" never showed up...(no show) is the answer they're getting.. plus the other passengers in the room were probably people who got upgraded, or had an issue with their room because... no show.. just my thoughts from what I saw.

First they booked with a company that book cruises, and not a traditional travel agent. Some of those express booking companies can get you rooms at a cheaper rate sometimes, but they ain’t going to keep you informed like a good traditional travel agent. So it is best to either book with a traditional travel advisor or to book directly with the cruise line, and not any third party sites.

I've used Priceline as my agent on a couple of cruises. The total cost that's shown at the beginning includes the agent's fee but in our credit card this fee showed separately as Priceline service charge & the rest of the charge paid to the cruise line shown in a separate line, amounting to the total cost you booked! This was explained by the agent very clearly to me so there's no confusion! After a day or two you can check your booking with the cruise line's website or app itself so you know it's all legit & you're booked! You can check it periodically till departure & I'm sure if there's an issue it would tell you. Maybe they didn't do this so they were surprised at the port that it's cancelled! I doubt it's cancelled for no reason!

Having watched Jay's video where his bag never showed up and the fact that our check-in time was very close to sailing, we opted to carry our bags on. I can confirm that was not easy as the other bags were arriving as the staterooms were ready but had this couple carried on their own bags, a lot of stress could have been avoided.

My son-in-law got a suite two and a half weeks before our last cruise. We were told that no suites were available two months before the cruise embarking. Also you are told by EVERYONE connected to cruises DO NOT PACK MEDICATIONS OR MONEY IN YOUR CHECKED LUGGAGE.

What the Henpecking Mother is going on here.... The mom is handling all the calls, emails, social media, and not her grown son? If he is an adult she has no legal right or responsibility in the matter and all rights to privacy should keep RCCL from telling her anything about the cruise denial. Exactly! I cannot even call my son's doctor for him to cancel an appointment when he's doing a double shift because he's over 21, even though he lives at home. She would not be able to be in the dispute if the couple was over 21. All businesses have that policy because of the legal ramifications. I know I didn't want my mom in my business when I was over 21.

In mom's defense, if the "kids" give her permission and the company in writing (email and usually backed up with a call), she can do it for them. My son works where he can't make calls. I have gotten on for him to handle something that needed attention during his shift. I am also the one everyone calls when something needs discussed that might need that "I'm not taking any BS" type of thing, a couple of the kids don't like confrontation and they ask for me to handle it. I don't volunteer, they ask. I have been known, in extreme cases that will take someone with decision power, to ask for the guy in the corner office with the windows that gets paid to handle what I'm going to complain about. The first or even second line customer service person doesn't need yelled at, and I will know if they can't handle the situation. I've worked CS before so I know what usually happens. And I'm pretty far from a Karen.

I have had reservations cancel and I didn’t know it until I went in the reservation for maintenance. My biggest issues the last couple years involved future cruise certificates falling off reservations due to updates. I was able to get them reinstated but I just spent 3 days this week going back and forth with documentation in a similar situation. I can’t imagine people being able to catch and solve similar issues without contacts on the inside.

Thanks for the update. Still clear as mud! Royal C, is still not off the hook for my money. Denied boarding should have a legitimate reason…to date, this young couple has steadfastly maintained they were given no reason for the denial. I am still skeptical…as Mom now easing off on her condemnation of RCL. If in fact it is a credit card issue, then someone dropped the ball or failed to react to some inquiry. Nothing has been mentioned about doing online check-in. I am not familiar with RCL policies. Do they have online check-in? My experience with another cruise line gives you the green check, as you process the various aspects of check-in, i.e., passport info, emergency contact, charge card info, etc.. At the end, you get notice you are good to go. Was this the case here?

Just an afterthought. Mom seems to let the TA of the hook also. My experience with 3rd party bookings is the cruise line corresponds directly with the TA not the actual custmoer. So when the cruise line has an issue, say with the credit card, they would contact the TA, not the customer. I have contacted a cruuise line directly, and when there is any issue they have responded with contact your TA or we will let your TA know, etc. My most recent cruise booking, the TA set up an automatic forwarding for anything that came in on our booking from the cuise line(change of check-in time, change of itinerary, etc)..

Oh heck no. Cruise Planner purchases are entirely separate from the cruise fare itself. Purchases are complete at the time a client buys the drink package. The travel agent has nothing to do with that. It’s not like NCL, where you can have an outstanding balance if your agent adds an excursion and doesn’t pay for it within 24 hours. Royal doesn’t do that. The accounting departments are entirely separate. Entirely separate. You can’t even ask a reservation agent to help you with Cruise Planner items. You have to speak to the CP dept. This HAS TO BE something to do with the travelers themselves. For the room issue - cruise lines manage inventory in real time, even AFTER the cruise has started. If they had that cabin empty and knew it wouldn’t be used after the pax were denied boarding, heck yeah they will sell an upgrade to a paying guest to that room. They’ll do it in a heartbeat. They also use those no-show rooms when a passenger’s room has an issue. This isn’t a problem at all. Inventory is switched around all the time.

I feel like this lady is baiting. Finding it hard to believe the travel agency was able to get an answer as to why the kids got denied but the kids themselves couldn’t. Why is this mom having to tell them to “some legwork” seriously?

I agree. If RC canceled or denied these guests, RC knew exactly what, when, and why they were denied. She's not telling the whole story.

The kids may be inexperienced with making major travel bookings themselves. Her son has been on cruises with the family when younger but that does not mean he learned the ins and outs of travel planning. This is something that is not taught and most of us have learned through trial and error when young. Experience is where we gained knowledge about travel.

The port workers are contractors and not direct employees of the cruise line.. That's why.. Thye are instructed to give limited or no information..

I took my first cruise this past July on Royal Caribbean with my 3 daughters (2 are 21 and 1 is 10 yrs old). None of us had ever been on a cruise. I watched tons of videos ( including yours) to know what to expect and how to prepare. I learned what mistakes not to make and I still accidentally started I was pregnant during the online check-in. I called RC customer service and was advised it could not be corrected and I had to show up early for check-in. My daughters went aboard while I worked out the issue. Once I got my sea pass, I still had issues with not being able to get in my cabin and my drink package didn’t work properly the first day. The problem started with My mistake and I didn’t let the fallout from that affect the overall experience. I’m ready for another RC cruise. I really think this 2nd hand account from the mom is leaving something out.

According to the mom on the first video they have been on many cruises so there should not have been any surprises. I think mom is looking for clicks on her tik tok and they are trying to get a big payout from RC as a sympathy ploy for all the money they supposedly paid for not only the cruise but flights, air bnb, food, etc.

I work for a bank and when I hear the word charge back I think two things. Either one the cruise was booked and she later tried to dispute the charge and it canceled their booking or 2 the charge wasnt authorized charge due to her limit on her credit card. Mom jumped the gun to blast Royal Carribean before ever knowing the whole story. This story got more holes than box of Cherrios. 😬

A transaction won't complete without an authorization number. We're in 2023 and not 1993 with manual imprinted charge slips.

@@aeroAdvocate We've had Fraud Cases on Credit Cards where the authorization code wasnt given. And there has also been cases where a charge was done and authorization code was given and the amount was charged back due to prohibited transaction or amount that was trying to be charged. 🙄 Bless your Heart.

Young couple, under 21, not married, buying a drink package may have been something that was a red flag. Yesterday there was a comment here that the mother was the TA. Does not sound like it

I love how to us the stories are interesting but to the cruise line it’s probably a number #864 problem for example they see a lot and have standard procedures for. Make sure your cruise is paid in full and your credit card and passport are up to date and you have money available for any emergency.
