I retired from law enforcement. You can guess at how many children got left in “safe” situations and usually it never ended well. What if a fire breaks out in the area of the room? They will not be able to get back there. There are kids clubs that will watch children that young for you for a fee. If you don’t trust them, take your kids to dinner.

Exactly! Everything is fine and dandy until a fire breaks out on the ship and it happens to be in the area where your children are at. They definitely wouldn't let other guests back there to prevent even more casualties. Then you have the fact you are surrounded by strangers you don't know anything about. Either you bring a travel nanny (if you can afford it), a relative who doesn't mind staying with the kids for the duration of the cruise, keep the kids with you or spouse at differing times so kids are never alone without either, or keep the kids at home with a relative.

The cruise line DOES NOT and should not watch your kids unless you have them in the nursery or other onboard child care services. We sacrifice A LOT of what we WANT to do or WOULD do if we didn’t have our kids but we do, and it is what it is. Make the sacrifices, my husband and I got not ONE dinner together on our cruise last week. We got NO DOWNTIME together to relax as adults. As a long time criminal lawyer and a retired judge, their statement was not credible. The video did a very good job picking up on the nonverbal cues, but the story did not make sense. What was lacking was detail. Had they actually had a person there with the children, they would have said so. They didn't. The "someone with their children at all times" is a tell by a lack of specificity. Don't have to give the name, simply the relationship. I am guessing if they actually had a nanny watching them, that would go against their narrative, but to shred their credibility to keep up the illusion? The other large tell, and frankly the most damning, is the immediate deflection to how much they love their children and how they would never do this. Heard that so many times. It is rote. The doe eyed look and pleading voice inflection - "believe us" looks isn't what happens in real life. Over-rehearsed and not pulled off well by non actors. As I have never seen any of their videos, this may be how they are normally. The best I can say is unpersuasive and not credible. The worst.....

I follow them on FB. Abby posted a story a 2-3 days into the cruise where she said she didnt want to post anymore because of challenges with having kids with them on vacation. I missed this part of their posting but im so disheartened to know it led to this. I unfollowed them. Absolutely ridiculous. If the family was with the kids they could have cleared that up the same night. She literally said “thats why I deleted it several hours after posting it, i could see it was causing concern and misunderstanding.” They’ve had days to clear this up.

I’ve been on numerous cruises and have seen those type of parents that leave their children alone in a rooms, or let them run wild on the ship. I don’t know if these two did this…But the parents that engage in this irresponsible behavior are trifling. It’s not the responsibility of the crew to watch your children.

It is possible that they were cruising with extended family and had adjoining rooms, AND they do monitor their children on video. If they did leave their children in the cabin alone, then shame on them and hopefully they learned a lesson and won't repeat it.

A few years ago we took a road trip with our son’s cat after he relocated. That was 2 nights in pet-approved hotels…..with a special fee. The hotels had policies in place that stated “pets were never to be left alone in the room.” Not only did we tag-team to go eat, we also tag-teamed in the car for potty or food breaks while on the road.

I’m sorry but there are tons of different options they could’ve taken advantage of. Everyone understands that sometimes parents need a break, especially with toddlers. They could’ve asked the grandparents to watch the kids for a week while they vacationed. They could’ve brought the grandparents along then switch off while they ate then take the kids back so the grandparents could eat. They could’ve used one of the actual baby sitting services the ship offers or they could’ve just brought them to dinner. What you don’t do is leave toddlers alone in a cabin because you don’t know what predators are out there let alone any emergency situation that might arise & prevent you from getting back to the cabin.

I refuse to defend them. It is unacceptable. Let me tell you my story: I was born in 1971. It was a completely different time. I have two kids (20 and 14) and I would never do this to my kids. I have two brothers who are 5 and 7 years younger than me. One weekend, my parents took me to a mountain resort. One evening, they put me to bed (I must have been about 5 years old) and then they went to dinner. Well, I was alone in the hotel room. And being well aware of what a, “latchkey kid” was at the time, I awoke, not seeing my parents, and I turned on Saturday Night Live on the NBC tv station that was one of the three that the hotel had. So, while my parents were out, I watched SNL (No, I didn’t understand a damn thing.). Was that appropriate then? NO! Is it appropriate now? NO! Did I subject my kids to that? NO! Parents: DO NOT DO THIS! My story happened in 1975. What was in the hotel room? A bathroom, a telephone, and a TV that received 3 channels. Times were different.

Had a couple next door on a cruise with a little one . One night the baby was crying consistently for several hours so I knocked on the door to see if they needed assistance. No one answered so I called customer service. Security came to the room with the Stewart and entered finding the baby (18 months ) alone in the room . This is about 1 in the morning . Needless to say officers showed up and the couple were eventually found in the casino several hours later . They were removed from the ship at the next port .

I’ve never heard of their channel but I bet they’re losing subscribers like crazy. And you’re right about subscribers that take it personal and automatically start defending influencers like they know them. You can tell the subscribers that get weirdly “attached” to their influencers. I watch a popular travel couple and whether someone is trolling them or reasonably calling them out on something I get double entertained reading the arguments that ensue in the comments section of people feeling the need to come to their rescue.

Yeah it was absolutely presented as a "parenting hack". Are your kids not happy to sit at dinner and both the kids and the adults are unhappy? Well we have the solution for you! Just put the kids to bed, and because the monitors don't work so far away, just facetime the monitors! And you can have your dinner while the kids sleep! I mostly agree but I will say that walkie talkies do work. Went on a cruise couple of weeks ago, a big family was using them throughout thr cruise to keep in touch. But again I do agree with you they shouldn't have ever left them alone.

Having never heard of them before or this story at all until happening upon this video, based on what I’ve seen I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this is a situation taken out of context and handled poorly and that the kid’s weren’t unsupervised. Of course I don’t claim to know but people always seem desperate to call people out these days even when they don’t have all the facts and from what I’ve seen their response seemed genuinely with her looking over to get visual support from her spouse in what would be a stressful situation. But who knows ultimately the kids are safe now and that’s what’s important.

We have seen time and again how people who may have committed an act that could result in consequences have taken advantage of spin tactics to control the narrative in their favour. Politicians do this over and again, so too many high profile cases where we see these types of tactics employed. The question I have is , if what they are saying is true, why has the supposed family member not come forward? This would put the matter to rest. This whole thing seems hinkey to me. The real issue of course is were the very, very young children ever left without any adult supervision on that cruise . Anyone who thinks that one could reach their cabin from any other point on that ship in under one minute, this is all the time it takes for a toddler to choke, has never been on a cruise ship.

You can’t make it back to your cabin in 3 minutes even if you’re on the same hallway on the end of the ship. There’s congestion from other people walking, standing in the way talking, workers, and slow elderly people. This is not a small fishing boat.

And it really wouldn't have been that hard to do a "hey, we messed up" video instead of what amounts to a "sorry we got caught" one. They did say in the video the children sleep in the black tent at home and they use the monitors at home whether the tent in the same room with them or not. So guess they would travel with them as it is everyday practice. Dont know what to believe but hope and pray the babies were with family and not left alone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really hope they didn't leave their kids alone with just only a baby monitor and face time. It's not safe. I took my munchkin with me EVERYWHERE anytime I didn't have a close family member. Which was 85% of the time. I get it that us parents need alone time to breath but never at the expense of our children's safety. You can't rewind time and undo anything bad if it happens.
