Thank you for not constantly loading them on antibiotics. Your doing a great job. At first I thought, give him some antibiotics, and then I thought, well, ok. He know what he's doing.

Like humans, it's not a good thing to give antibiotics every time you turn around.

I've only seen vets numb an abscess on a cow a few times. People just don't know that pain and nerve endings work differently depending the creature being treated and where on the body it's being treated. Some people will also never believe that farmers actually care about their animals and their well being, no matter the evidence presented to them. Others of us know better. Looks like you did a great job based upon how he's healed!

Aside from that, the abscess was full of puss, so an anaesthetic may not have worked anyway (acid/base shift). And I'm confident the relief of having that pressure removed would have more than outweighed any pain associated with the cut.

Everyone has an opinion (especially these days) everyone has there own way of doing things. You have your vet and neighbours, family and friends and that’s who’s opinion should matter. You’re not going to put your livelihood on the line or harm an animal if you didn’t know what you were doing. I’m sure you only have the best interest of the animal at heart. I say good job!

All the cattle look good and healthy so you're doing something right. I too was raised with cattle and other livestock, and I believe it is our responsibility to our animals that we learn as much as we can from our vets so we don't have to call them over every issue and the problems can be addressed immediately.

Sometimes advice IS worth something. The trick is to know what is valuable and what is not. Best not to discount every bit of advice and be "cavalier" about it. Garret has enough brains and experience to know the difference but others reading comments may take our "FREE" advice the wrong way and not listen to anyone because the advice was "FREE". ;)

Dude... let me tell you something. There is no reason nor justification to apologize. You are educating those who have no damn idea what it takes to operate a ranch or farm. THIS IS LIFE AS IT IS. If people don't like it....they can turn it off. They can contribute. Ranching has never been a sanitized occupation. It has always been hands on. What do these people want? Cattle raised in cages? I don't think so. They can't have it both ways. The good thing is...NOW THEY KNOW WHAT IT TAKES. This is real life, real men, real women, doing real work. "Pretend folks" have no legs to stand on. What you do has been the backbone of this country and other countries for ions of time. Thank you for what you do. May God bless you, your family, the hands who work for you and your livelihood.
@josephlozano5935

Further more, People just need to shut-up and accept life as God gives us. Both animal and human. I'm not talking nor referring to the life we've created in society or street life. Trying to sanitize what God gave us or "change it" is why our society is so messed up.

Your baby with the abscess looks great....you can barely tell that there was something huge there before He also looks happy, and enjoying life. I find that there is usually more than one way to do something, no matter what it is, and they all have similar outcomes. You did a great job. I don't see how to deal with so many animals. I would fall in love with all of them and not sure if I would be tough enough to send them away to be slaughtered...however, I also know that this is their purpose. (Wouldn't be able to process chickens etc. either, but love the meat! )

I'm a nurse not a vet or a cattle rancher but you did just the right thing. Only thing I would change is rinse the peroxide out with some saline. I only suggest this because peroxide can "eat" up healthy tissue. Otherwise your wound care skills are top notch. Throwing antibiotics at everything is more harmful than helpful when you catch the infection early. Keep up the good work!
