For the longest time, I kept my station wagon addiction to myself. I was convinced I was the only addict until I starting doing research and wham bam, there are a ton of us! I was born in 1970. I lived in a cul-de-sac in Northern CA. Every house in the court had a wagon. Not just wagons but the land yacht type. I remember going to the dealership when my parents bought a brand new 1978 Mercury Marquis Colony Park wagon. We were the envy of neighborhood until the next family brought another wagon. I have loved wagons ever since. You are a lucky man, Tony. She's a beauty.

Very nice 1977 Country Squire. The only Squire Wagon I ever owned was my first car a 1973 Pinto Squire . I had it up to my purchase of my 1987 Crown Victoria Wagon in June of 1988 and once you go up to the full size model you never go back. In 2001 I purchased a 1991 LX wagon in New Hampshire which spent it's winter months in Florida where it was well cared for by the first owner an elderly lady. The 1987 is now my winter wagon to keep the 1991 off the road until spring. I had the 1991 completely restored in 2020 by Bundy Motors in Tolland, Ct. with a rebuilt transmission and engine and it now has about 14,000.0 miles since restoration. I also purchased in January of 2022 a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition, one of only 250 built with that trim package. It had 67,000.0 miles on it and is in mint condition. Good luck with your new LTD.

@@klwthe3rd Hi. Thanks for the reply. Glad to see you are familiar with Bundy Motors in Tolland. I have known the former owner and founder Jerry Bundy for almost forty years. Since my purchase in 2022 I have put new front brakes, water pump, four new tires, belts, and front shock absorbers. I regret to say I do not have the skill to post videos but I would be glad to send photos of the Merc to your e - mail address if provided. Thanks for your interest.

My wife and I bought a new 1973 LTD 2-door hardtop with the deluxe wheel covers. I believe they were too heavy for the light duty tabs that held them to the wheels. When the car was only a few months old we hit a pothole and the right rear wheel cover came off, went straight up in the air and came back down and damaged the paint on the upper quarter panel. I went to the local Ford dealer and purchased a set of the mag style wheel covers that were optional on the 1968 XL's and put those on. No more problems and they looked great.

I love that you will be adding ALL those options. Back in the day, to find a Ford Country Squire wagon this heavily loaded was very rare. As i mentioned in another video, our 1978 Ford Country Squire wagon had the Landau Luxury Group(in the same green mind you) BUT not many other options. So to see one that will have some of the most rare options like power front vent windows, illuminated entry and those gorgeous wire wheel covers is really going to set this car off. Our car had the base wheel covers(i thought were very nice) but they were prone to fly off so easily at highway speeds. Not sure if the wire wheel covers require add on tags to hold to the steel wheel but i'm sure Tony will show us all when these upgrades are performed.

It highlights the wood grain and it provides protection to the vehicle. When you have everything done I think folks will say “Wow” when they see the car. I love that you add OEM equipment and think it’s even cooler that you have acquired so many NOS pieces! My only concern is dying the jump seats, unless you think you can eventually find an original set in the correct color in good shape I would spend the money to have them done correctly, especially if you can still get the correct vinyl.

Thank you very much! I can get the vinyl to do the seats. That's for sure. I just figure it's worth a try to dye them, and if it doesn't work out, then have them done. @@tonyscarcare5657 So long as you don’t mind the cost of having them dyed I guess you don’t have anything to lose. If you don’t like it then you can always have it done the most correct way. Definitely approve of the wire hub caps, power vent windows and illuminated entry. I really like the way the dash looks now. It'll be interesting to see what a complete set of Landau luxury pieces look like, hope you can wrangle them up. Since you asked, I'm not quite sure about the body side mouldings. I personally don't like the look of them, seem a tad bit dark. On the other hand, not using a new old stock set you've got would seem a waste. I'm not quite sure what I'd do in your place. I think my LTD Crown Victoria looks better with them removed.

I'm pretty sure I'll get all of the woodgrain dash pieces eventually. I just hope I can find everything else for the Landau Luxury Group. I'm definitely going to add the bodyside molding. Tony, I may be misremembering, but I think that the body side moldings go over the center black stripe of the wood grain.

No, Sir. I've taken it all off of the one in the junkyard as well as looked at many others. If we were to put it on the lower one, we'd run out of room on the front fender, and it wouldn't go between the two little side marker lights on the rear quarter panel.

Door trim is so subtle, I don’t think it will be noticeable with that wood trim, should blend right in, Help protect the car, just make sure it stays on forever, probably would be a different story if you did not have wood trim, every time I see that car, I like it more, most cars you find some thing wrong every time you see them

Hi Tony! So I have been watching your channel for a while and I really enjoy your content! I always watch Adam’s channel and I was happy he introduced your channel to us. I think your station wagon is outstanding and I have to say, I am glad that you are doing what YOU want to YOUR car! I am currently restoring a 1990 Buick Electra Park Avenue and I’m also getting heat from people telling me to add or subtract options but in the end I will be the driver and the one to enjoy it so I say “Cheers” to you! It’s gonna look awesome!!! And I for one LOVE the wire wheel covers!!! Gonna look very luxurious! I do have a question for you, I have the Keyless entry system in my Buick but I can’t seem to get it to function and have watched an actual Buick instruction on how to jump the connector behind the glove box, but it’s supposed to cycle the door locks once and then open them but it’s not working so I’m not sure if I have a bad module behind the dash. I know you primarily work on Ford products but just didn’t know if you have any familiarity with some of these GM keyless entry systems of the late 80s? (Yes it’s a new OEM key fob with a new battery too) Thanks for putting out a great channel and I also very much enjoyed the walk around in the scrapyard!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@tonyscarcare565710 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words. I have honestly never worked on any of those cars keyless entry systems. They were definitely the first ones and beat Ford to the game. I'll have to look at my wire diagrams and see if they aren't too old to show that module. It sure sounds to me like the module is where I'd start. I bet it was used on most all of the GM cars with keyless entry at the time. Let me know if you need me to help you find one. There very well could be one in that junkyard. I'll definitely be back there for more videos, so let me know if you see me walk past something that could have it. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!

That's a single stage paint job, would you ever consider clear coating only the green? I think that shade of green would really look much richer with a clear coat. I had a gold metallic 1970 Mach I that I clear coated and the gold looked much deeper and more expensive.
@tonyscarcare565710 ай бұрын
Yes, I have definitely considered clear coating it. It would definitely need some chip and scratch repair before that was done. Have you seen that new product called Poppy's Patina?
@bentnickel748710 ай бұрын
@@tonyscarcare5657 I thought Poppy's was a matte finish? Clear to me always mean high shine. I am not keen on a wipe on finish, as a permanent finish, however, as a test finish to see if you would like it, seems perfect. Deep shine looks like "money" to me. 🤩🤩🤩

@williamgrimes66810 ай бұрын
since the body side molding matches the color I don't think they will stand out much but will enhance the look. Is the illuminated entry lock shorter than the current one? It kind of looks like it is and it might show where the round one was once installed.

Adam's a self admitted design geek. I think he comes at it as it somewhat takes something away from what the designers originally intended-which I get (depending on the car). Rub strips look awful on coke bottle designed GM cars of that era. Since you're adamant about adding options and components that are factory correct for the factory correct look -and not putting a chintzy looking back-up cam stereo, a spoiler and friggin' flame stickers all over the thing -I think you're headed in the right direction🙂 Still interested to see how the rest of the paint turns out -that fender looks hopeful. Wire caps do look better too -I'd tend to agree....

People are lazy buttheads nowadays! I worked at an upholstery shop in the early 90s and there was no job too big or too small for the owners to take on. If you can cut and sew you can easily make up a set of covers, especially since the originals are there to make a pattern from. A lot of these so-called trimmers are only interested in taking pre-made covers and hog-ringing them in place. Well, a trained monkey can do that. And $1300? Crack pipe! This job is equivalent to a boat seat job, of which we did many!

I don't need that kind of power! I have looked and looked for a wagon in this color combination. Most of them had the 400. Yes, it would be great to have the 460, and it's possible it will get it. As for now, I've been following these wagons for years, and they are skyrocketing in price. If I didn't pull the trigger now, in 5 years, they may be asking stupid prices like the old Broncos. Sadly, people will pay it, too! I was sick and tired of looking at them, bringing ridiculous prices and not even having tilt or cruise. Let alone no power windows and locks. It's options like that, which means the most to me. I have a 460 with 54k original miles and another one spotted. I'm happy with my purchase, and people are coming out of the woodwork trying to buy it. I've been doing this long enough, I really think I know what I'm doing. I'm so sorry, this car is useless to you.
