6:24 I am pretty sure that the transmission in that car is a Super-Turbine 300! This is a Buick transmission, but was also used in Pontiac's and Oldsmobile's before they started putting in the TH-350 and 400.

I've worked on an old Jeep with the 231V 6 2bbl in it, and my high school buddy had a 66? Skylark Conv with a 231 V6 2bbl Auto Trans in it. Eventually he blew that motor, and he went to the wreckers to get another engine for it. With the help of me and some other buddies, the car was resurrected with a 355 Wildcat motor in it. (as I recall it was a 301ci ironhead) And man did that thing ever go through "tire" (passenger side burnouts - lol) until he sold it a few years later. Good times were had in that car, more times than I can count. :-)
@38911bytefree8 жыл бұрын
I remember this car perfectly. Watched the episode 10 times, probably more. This was the best episode IMHO. The two parts. EPIC. From the time Roadkill was below 100K subs.
@GlassTopRX78 жыл бұрын
The tiny two barrel too, really light V8, like 470lbs, the early version of that motor came with aluminum heads and weighed just over 400lbs. That's roughly 100lbs lighter than the small blocks found in a 66' Chevelle and nearly 200lbs lighter than Pontiac engines.
@rogerramjet50928 жыл бұрын
Fun fact the Rover 3.5L v-8 is a Buick design and all aluminum. It was also sold by Oldsmobile in the jetfire with a turbo slightly different valve train. used cast in iron liners. The 300 is the big brother to the original 215cid/3.5L.
@DrewLSsix8 жыл бұрын
roger depew. the buick olds rover engines are light wnough to make good aircraft engines, especially when poked out to 300ci. they weigh a bit less than 350 lbs.

That "Dauntless" also went in the wagoneer. Had a '68 with one. Interestingly enough, it still had Kaiser and Willys Overland tags under the hood. It also had a window in the block hidden behind the starter.... and still drove home when bought.

Are you kidding me, this thing got me hooked! :-) at the time I had a p.o.s. 1978 F250 with a 351m and a 4 speed manual on the floor. and no syncro in 1st or 2nd. (and a 1000 liter pressurised vater tank on the back, since it started life as a small airport fire engine). The reason I kept waching is, you made me less disappointed in my own life choices.

correction AMC did not buy the V6 from Buick. Kaiser Jeep bought it and the tooling, built it and used it then sold Jeep to AMC. AMC sold it back to Buick/GM after they decided to use their inline 6 cyl in the AMC jeeps. small detail but just to set it straight for viewers that don't know the correct timing of owners of the Jeep company

Jeep also had the "Dauntelss 350" which was essentially the Buick 300 with a taller deck and 350CI. They share the same front cover as the the V6's, as well s the Buick 215, and 340. The transmission is a Switch Pitch 300, also known as the "SP300".It has a switch pitch converter just like the Buick SP400. In fact Buick guys would get the SP300 converters installed behind V6's and swap them into their Big Block or Nailhead SP400 cars for more stall. Thanks for bringing back the Buick. I have a '65 Buick Special Wagon with a 300 that is getting bored and stroked to 370, sheetmetal aluminum intake, EFI and a single turbo.
@albertgaspar6277 жыл бұрын
Cadillac and Olds had some Switch Pitch convertors, too. There's one in the THM400 behind an Olds 461 cid in my 1968 4-4-2. Launch at 3,300 RPM or cruise at 1,800 RPM stall speed. One of GM's better ideas. Too bad its winter time right now so I can't take it out in the salt :(

Maybe money didn't come so easy. Build a $1,000 shed in 1975 to hold a $1,000 car might not have seemed that smart at the time. Doesn't even seem logical now. Not to mention you need the property. You try building a shed (at what cost? $5,000?) these days when half of the people in Canada and the US live paycheck-to-paycheck. Unless you get one of those aluminum sheds they now sell for like $1,000, but didn't 40 years ago.

1966 Buick Special Convertible Coupe(V-8).............................2,036 produced
@josephsummers24278 жыл бұрын
Yea but if you include the whole line of Buick Specials that year, it's about 45,000. And including Deluxe series, add another 61,000 on top of that. I hate when people break it down that much. "Only 2,000 produced of the 1999 Honda Accord V6 coupe in cashmere black with optional a/c, optional graphic, optional power windows, 16" optional rims, and a CD player" or something like that. I'm bullshitting but you get my point. At the end of the day, it's just an Accord and they made 800,000 that year or whatever. You're not special because you keep adding on trim after option to make your car sound more rare/obscure.
