Trying to install driver to my win 10 laptop but Device Manager says it can’t because language is not available. I connected through port 3 but the install button goes dark when choosing update file. Any ideas?

Yes, I figured it out. You gotta put the radio in the update mode.. Hold down the PTT (Push to talk ) button and turn it on. This will make the screen dark and the flashlight will turn on. Now retry the update software and the update button won't be greyed out. You might have to restart the update software. But this works.

There's also a firmware hack available that makes the radio recieve from 18 to 1300Mhz. But I noticed it now transmits on the airband after installing that, so just don't do that. 😉

I hooked up to a RF power meter and frequency counter and found at some frequencies the screen says Tx but there is little or no output on the RF.

@@mmpiforall5913 Yeah, The radio isn't really build to work on those frequencies, but the fact dat this radio is so flexible is very nice.

I have a problem where the "update" button is greyed out and it wont let me continue.

Not really sure. Two things to check - 1. make sure you have your downloaded .bin file selected. The wrong file type will mess things up. Next, try putting the .bin file on the desktop so the installer doesn't have to look through several layers of file folders. Last, make sure you're not trying to run the program from the zip file. It has to be extracted first. Good luck.

I have this problem were I put my device in programming mode (white LED, no display), and then press Connect, point to the .bin file but the upgrade button stay greyed-out? My USB driver is up-to-date?

Can't really say for sure, but I had a similar occurrence and found that when I had the bin file a couple of layers down in the file structure it behaved like you described. Try placing the bin on your desktop and see if that works. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas.

I had that exact problem. I had to keep moving the usb cable until it found a com port it liked. Just keep moving the cable to different USB ports. ALSO make sure you push the connector into the radio HARD. It doesn't like to seat for some reason and you won't get a connection unless it seats properly.

I have just tried to flash the firmware, but it failed. I tried to turn on the radio, but it couldnt be turned on. When I tried to flash the radio again, the software notification said, "radio not detected". Is there any possibility that my radio can be normally turned on again? Thanks in advance 🙏🙏

You may have bricked it. Especially if it was third party firmware. Try taking the battery out and letting it sit a day to make sure all components are discharged. It's a long shot, but...

Very helful, I have two K5's to do. I also have the newer K5 (8). Also known as the K6, I wonder if its the same firmware. Its basically exactly the same radio with a different case, a supposedly better speaker and an amber screen. It sounds and operates the same. The Airband on all three are pretty much useless though. :( 🤷‍♂️

Thr K5 and K5 (8) are listed on the FCC database page for the K5 as identical except for styling. The photos there show the K5(8), too. When looking at the K6, the transmitter ranges show that the ranges don't include all the US coverage. My sense is the K6 is for other countries. Thanks for watching and commenting. 73

I asked the seller about the new model if it had any software difference and they said basically no but it was better optimised for the Chinese market.... whatever that meant I will have to compare bands between mine and will confirm if they are different. Did you turn on AM (Menu Setting 48)? While not perfect, it's much better with that on for airband.

there is a u tube video that test the k5 after the mod,it transmits spurs in every band except 144 and 440.cant turn a bicycle into an f16 ,are the antennas special ?i tried to replace it with a triband and lost some of the sensitivity on the weather chans.anyone else notice this

Minor details… most of us bought this as an ht capable of listening to an incredible amount of bandwidth with the capability’s to tx on ham and gmrs/frs bands all in one device… I sertantly won’t be transmitting on anything other then gmrs with mine but want the ability to listen to anything

I tried the Quansheng link and it worked for me. I did get a security warning in Chrome asking whether I wanted to go back or continue. Check to see you don't have a security setting in your computer that doesn't allow you to access non-https sites. Good luck.

Make sure the radio is in update mode. The light on the top should be lit. PPT while turning on.

No. You still have to press the Monitor button to break the squelch on the NOAA channels. Bummer.

Tried to download firmware for the UV-K5(8). McAfee says it has a virus. Probably won't hurt your radio, but I would fear for the computer.

I just tried the link and besides getting warnings about the site not having a HTTPS setting, I got the download just fine. For some reason WinZip will not open it. 7Zip (free download) will. Good luck.
