My only negative comment about this video and any other test drive with the Acura/Honda touchpad is the dealership never showed the couple how to properly use it. It’s not that difficult and it’s pretty genius once the salesperson shows you how to use it. A touchscreen distracts you from the road where as the touchpad allows you to keep your eyes on the road at all times

Have the 2019 RDX and feel the trackpad works fine for basic infotainment use--Acura's user interface--because the focus/target control tracks with your finger placement on the trackpad. It works similarly to a touch interface. It really sucks trying to use Apple CarPlay because you literally have to flick your finger over the trackpad to drive focus to the control you want to interact with, similar to using a mouse. It is absolutely maddening, especially while driving. In my opinion, this UX should be viewed as a safety issue and forbidden by the regulatory agencies. It's a huge distraction. Acura's decision to stick with this interface comes across as arrogance. Sad to say, but the touch UX in our 2018 Honda CR-V is a thousand times better than the significantly more expensive RDX. That should be embarrassing to Acura/Honda.

I don’t have experience with the track pad but I think it would be better than touch screen because I have a big one on the 2019 Volvo XC60. Touch screen is really hard to use. You have to take your eyes off the road to see where you’re touching and when the car is moving, your hand shakes so much it’s really hard to touch the exact spot you need to touch! Touch pad would totally address that problem!

I have the TTIP in my 22 MDX Advance. Despite having it 19 months, and overall truly "Like " the car (I reserve love for family), the TTIP still Bugs Me. At the Minimum, add Radio Buttons to be able to select the various InfoT radio selections easily, preferably convert this to a TouchScreen, or ideally, add Both ! Oh, the MPGs in my MDX is not even close to the Sticker MPGs. From what I've seen on other RDX reviews - owners are experiencing the same "poor" MPGs.

I bought the base 2022 RDX and living it. It is by the far the best value in this segment. It looks great, tons of room, great power for a 4 cylinder and very comfortable. I agree that the infotainment system touch pad isn't the best. It would have been perfect if they incorporated a touch screen with the track pad. With all the extra features they added to the base this year it's not a deal breaker. For the money, nothing comes close to this.

If you say so, i'd personally stay away from touch pad infotainment. Even lexus got rid of theirs due to customer complaints of being the worst to use. Though Audi Q5 Progressive is a better deal imo.

@@441meatloaf I had a Q5 progressive years ago. It was very comparable to the Acura RDX (similar hp, size ride ect... but it cost 10k more in Canada. Not worth it imho. The infotainment system is better but Audi made big mistake removing the track wheel and just leaving an empty hole? Should have kept both. BMW makes one of the best infotainment systems. You have the idrive with the touch pad. Lexus got with of the touch pad and replaced it with a very cheap looking screen. Terrible 360 camera that you can't control, harsher ride with run flats, and weird door release. Also Lexus NX is much smaller and more expensive. Acura RDX value wise is still by far the best.

@@441meatloaf I know they don't use track wheels anymore. That was my point. Audi should have had it touch screen AND kept the track wheel for those that don't want fingerprints all over the screen The track wheel as more convenient as well since you didn't have to reach up to the screen. By removing the track wheel and not replacing it with anything but a weird empty box looks cheap. I've had both the Audi Q5 and SQ5 and for the money I will take the Acura RDX all day. I’ve been with Honda for a long time and so far this 22 MDX win a lot of “breaking” records. I am planning to trade this in and get that 24 MDX Type S instead since I learned that the 2024 fixed most of those issues. As usual, great video. Thanks! I'm not sure about the MSRP's you're using, though. I know dealers tend to find a way to mark these up above and beyond MSRP, but your numbers compared to the 2023 models here in the US are $3,000 less than what's listed here. For example, the 2023 FWD RDX A-Spec is starting at $48,195 whereas your numbers from a year ago, state $45,750 US. I know prices went up but wow, that's a $3,000 increase over a year and for really, nothing any better or all that different. This puts this above what I'm willing to spend. If this was $40,000 with a few options to add, that'be one thing, but this thing is fast approaching the $50,000 mark and that's just too much.

For the money, RDX was much better value IMO. I decided to go with a lease and the money factor for the Acura was half vs the rate I got for the Audi as well, so overall it was a no brainer for what I was looking for. I had to go with the this new gray color, only this, black, and blue were available at the time. Looks great! In a perfect world, I would have liked white and wish the rims were black and not dark gray - but I just did a lease, so I am still super happy with the color option I received. Tip for the touchpad - start in one of the corners with your finger and THEN navigate to the specific area you want to select, works much better that way I have found.

Acura needs to have a serious rethink of the whole center console design especially infotainment system, just like what Lexus does to new RX and upcoming new products. The touchpad and large dial are very annoying, to some extent, dial feels bulky when it comes to interior aesthetic. This interior execution is enough to write Acura family off the shopping list. We have a 2020 RDX ASPEC. It was in the shop for control arms (known issue), brake pads (known issue of noise / binding), and a steering wheel wiring harness that was clicking (also apparently fairly common). We also have a 2021 M340. So far the BMW is winning. The BMW is more like a Honda, the Acura is more like an old BMW. 2021 M340 has 17,500 miles on it, the 2020 Acura RDX ASPEC has 22,500 miles on it. The infotainment system, while not as bad as when he first got it (multiple updates later), is still frustrating. It often has issues booting Apple Carplay (I’ve never had any other vehicle that had this problem) and can even freeze occasionally with say the navigation app. We really like the RDX, but I’m actually beginning to think a reasonably optioned X3 is the way to go. Last, I should say I have a reservation for 6MT 2023 Integra. So it’s not that bad!

Another solid car Review. There is lots to admire about he 2022 RDX. I wrestled with the 2021 RDX and the new 2022 MDX. I went with the MDX based on the new redesign and the comfort and roominess of the interior. I test drove both back in August, however, if this model was there at the time, I might have selected it (Don't really need a worthless 3rd Row SUV). With better sound insulation, auto-dampeneing Suspension, great pep from the 2.0L Turbo engine, and better MPGs, and of course a lower price. The MDX has the smae Touchpad - i have become accustomed to it, but still don't like it - they should have provided BOTH , a Touch screen and Touchpad. The Psuh button Tranny is not a "problem" for me. If you drive 2 cars , switching often like I do with my wife's CRV, then it confuses you a bit. With current car market conditons what they are, I could Trade in my new MDX with less than 4K miles on it since August, and look at a deal for a new 2022 RDX Advance. I could get the $62K MSRP for mine right now. I may entertain that - provided it Reduces my lease payment ? The MPGs on the MDX have been disappointing to me. It has been regulalry logging about 10% less than the 2019 that I had.

RIP Elite trim (2019-21). I just got one used at its such a great balance between A-Spec and Platinum. Gets the heated back seats, power folding mirrors, puddle lamps and better riding and fuel efficient 19 inch grey wheels.

Good review Guys. I have a 2022 MDX and agree, despite the fact that i have "learned" to use the TTPI , I still much prefer a Touch Screen or even better - include Both Touch Pad and Touch Screen. The new Audi Q5 Sportback has a nicer interior IMO. I'd like to see that Comparison review. I think that despite the TTPI , Acura has hit a solid Double, or a triple, not quite a Home Run. I have learned to accept the Push Button Shifter. The Active Dampeners incredibly is Not on the USA 2022 MDX Advance, but it is on the RDX (2021 included in the USA). Being more quiet is a Big Plus over the 2021 RDX that I test drove when comparing to the 2022 MDX in August 2021. One thing I believe is remiss by Acura - Should have produced a Hybrid for the RDX and the MDX in 2022.

I have a 2019 advanced, and had no issues whatsoever, apart from a rattle coming from the air vent lid and back seat related to the latch mechanism. I feel the RDX is very quiet compared to my highlander 2017, suspension is very comfortable as well, I test drove mdx 2022 as well as RDX, save the money and get RDX advanced 2019-2020 CPO and save 10k over 2022... the issues they are referring were in regard to the 2019 model, engine stalling due to water getting into intercooler, and infotainment crashes, these issues have been resolved as far as iam concern. I don't think the trackpad is bad at all, took me 1 week to get used to it, are there better systems? sure. Friends and I have no complaints.

Yes, fuel economy is subpar. Also noisy still and handles more like a truck. But still ok for the price in today’s market.

We have a 2019 model, and its been very reliable, has good seats, good storage, has good power once it wakes up (see below), is a very handsome vehicle, but is probably one of the worst vehicles we have ever owned. 1. The touchpad is a class action suit waiting to happen. It is VERY distracting to use, and if you're left handed its even worse! 2. The gas mileage is terrible around 13L/100Km (worse than my F150). 3. The stop/start is TOO slow restart (when you're waiting in an intersection it takes almost a full second to restart). 4. The transmission is always in at least 2 gears too high, and can take at least a second or so to downshift into a gear with any power. 5. There is a fair amount of turbo lag as well. 6. There is a fair amount of wind noise/road noise (winter or summer tires) Thankfully the resale is fairly high, and we will be looking to offload it as soon as some of the hybrid SUV's (Toyota Vensa?) pricing become reasonable and in stock.

The used, or rather ‘previously loved’, Audi seems quite expensive as a used alternative. However, the only person that I know who owned an RDX (new) traded it in after just one year (actually less). What did they buy instead? A brand new mid-spec Audi Q5. And they haven’t looked back. That left a strong impression on me. Personally… I’m a big fan of that Genesis (price, styling and interior. The drive might not be as sharp or sporty as the Acura, but I have my Porsche for those few odd days. Thanks for the video.

I think Acura has taken a hit with 1st and 2nd model year blues. Acura (Honda) does an excellent job correcting any issues with newer models and their vehicles are extremely solid the 3rd-7th model years. Plan on purchasing a 3rd-7th model year Acura/Honda if you plan to keep 100,000 to 200,000 miles.

The center console is sort of a no-go for me. I supposed I'd get used to it. This has more room than a CX-5 but I see them as comparable in a lot of ways. Of course, Mazda is rated higher in quality nowadays.
@10tenman102 жыл бұрын
Agree with the comment about Mazda. I buy my cars mostly on the basis of Consumer Reports reliability recommendations. While we own a 2013 RDX (no problems after 62,000 miles) I probably wouldn't buy an Acura presently (have owned 3 of them). I think the new Mazda CX50 turbo might be a competitor in this class-pricepoint.
@441meatloaf2 жыл бұрын
@@10tenman10 Buying vehicles based on consumer reports isn't always a good choice...you need to buy the right vehilce and what you think its good personally when you test drive one. There are owner complains the CX50 has extremely harsh ride to due terrible choice of suspension and wheels.
@10tenman102 жыл бұрын
@@441meatloaf You are correct. I watch a bunch if KZbin car reviews to figure out how good an automobile is and whether it would be a good fit for me. In part because I tend to keep my cars for a long time I tend to buy them on the basis of reliability which is where CR comes in. Regarding the Mazda CX50 I'm just looking now. Might buy a compact suv in about 1 years time. The CX5 has been reliabke and Mazda is a good brand. Ive heard like you mention stiff suspension. I don't like 20 inch tires on a suv. I hear the seats are firm-hard. Remains to be determined.
@441meatloaf2 жыл бұрын
@@10tenman10 Thats what a lot of owners say on reddit. The seats are uncomfortable and ride is just bad giving the fact they cheaped out on the suspesion. I used to own a CX30 and i know what they mean when they say its stiff. Cause my CX30 does the same thing it bounces up and down a lot like unsettled weight cause the suspension wasn't tuned for average and comfort. Its stiff like my WRX.

We went with the '18 X3 but were also impressed with the RDX. Just hated the infotainment. Has the screen quality improved? Acuras have always been so low-res compared to BMW. Have they addressed that issue? My wife plans on seriously considering the RDX again when it's time to replace the X3... value is important to her. I went from a '15 TLX to the M340... I was smitten by the new TLX Type S concept but the reviews have been less than stellar... so I can't see myself going back to Acura from my excellent M340.
