I want to believe the powertrain issues were fixed, but then again the Taos was on Consumer Reports least reliable vehicles list and infotainment still seems dated by 2025 standards. Even the cheap Nissan Kicks and Chevy Trax have big 11" screens standard.

While true, I wouldn’t trust VW’s hybrid as they haven’t produced this tech and will be new to them that will take a very long time to perfect (look at Toyota and Honda) they can’t even get their ICE and EVs up to par with the Japanese (Toyota, Honda & Mazda) in terms of quality, longevity and reliability let alone new hybrid tech

Great review as always. prefer the wired apple carplay myself! solid and works. 10 year anniversary for VW btw when scientists in an Albuquerque laboratory conducted an unusual experiment: Ten monkeys squatted in airtight chambers, watching cartoons for entertainment as they inhaled fumes from a diesel Volkswagen Beetle. trying to dodge the dieselgate fiasco. hopefully they learned. 1 reason I’d never own a VW again. period.

Yeah I really dislike the haptic touch controls for HVAC The Atlas at work has them for almost everything, not just HVAC and it's terrible It's probably the biggest reason I would not want to own one.

Taos, Made in Argentina, for Mercosur, always was with Aisin six speed with torque conversion, never seven speed, now is an Aisin with eight speed (and always was multi link suspension in all models since 2021)the multimedia system in ours countries are display 10", with Android Audio e Apple CarPlay in wireless mode... (in all models too)

Due to job location my commute will be 80 miles a day (3 days a week) so i was considering to switch to hubrid/phev but prices are so high. So is it worth considering or not specially break even between my current car and new one. Cant hv 2 cars and wanted to hv emi under $450. Also saw a Escape phev as $34k(OTD price). Is it a good move. Sorry but lot of doubts.

Touch HVAC controls... Noooo! Especially in Canadian models, I hate this. I'm driving with my gloves for a lot of time, despite having a heated steering wheel and they only work with really thin gloves. I don't really mind the lack of heated rear seats or power liftgate. It's the bottom model of the compact SUVs. I want the cost kept down. If I want more luxuries, I'll buy an Audi. I always love that you guys cover both Canadian and American features and prices.

While I get it, and agree, I have the touch HVAC controls in my Venza and honestly, it's not really a big deal. I set my temps 3.5 years ago when I bought it and haven't touched them since. That said, I do prefer the buttons and dials.

In practice the HVAC controls here are million times better than the 22-24 Golf GTI / R. The capacitive touch points work with gloves, just FYI. This just proves you've never actually tried using the system.

In your next video could you breakdown how leg room is measured/ reported. I think it’s not standardized. I have a Mazda cx5 with “39” inches of rear seat legroom but the taos feel much roomier in the back. Maybe you could debunk it in your videos moving forward too!

When I test drove the 2022 Taos the turbo lag was a full 2 seconds which I considered dangerous if turning left in front of traffic. You said “slight lag?” How much is slight? Glad they ditched that jerky DCT! Terrible…

The Taos is a handsome vehicle however the powertrain needs to be increased from 1.5 Turbo to a minimum of 2.0 Turbo for this class and size of vehicle. The Questionable Reliability can be solved by offering a five year bumper to bumper warranty which would increase consumer confidence in VW products to match consumer financing standards, usually five years. Good review. I'm glad they changed transmissions and a hybrid would be a great option. How do you see this stacking up against the new ADX? also, the Seltos does come with a much longer warranty and lots of folks feel that VW is lease and return before repair bills.

I understand how a dual clutch works but don't like them. I test drove the 2024 vw Taos 4motion with the dual clutch. The transmission felt like it was controlled by someone who has never driven a manual..... Over revved constantly and slipped the clutch for way too long.

You two Motormouths are great. But, regarding today's review : Midway through you speak of how many options are standard in the KIA SELTOS that are missing from the new Taos. Then when speaking of the space and measurements inside you compare the TAOS to the smaller Subaru, and don't mention that once again, the specs for the KIA are better in every way. It looks like you are protecting VW's reputation, by not bringing the KIA back into the conversation as VW are offering an inferior product, by comparison.

@ issues with the fuel system, evaporation canister, brake pads would last under 10k miles (dealer replaced first time under warranty) , radio goes blank, check engine light on multiple occasions. Dealer blamed the gas until I showed receipts of various top tier gas stations. And vw corp told me to fly a kite. So I did never again. Btw I bought it New
