This game offered the best cosmetic DLCs, I've ever seen in a multiplayer game. Right!? And people try to tell me that it’s impossible for a company to monetize their game without colorful skins. Seriously, give me a break. If call of duty adopted this formula, and sold individual pieces of kit and clothing that actually fit the theme of the game, they would make twice as much as they currently are.

Technically not the same Devs. Antimatter Games, who developed this Vietnam Mod for RS, that became the full game RS2 (partnering with Tripwire Interactive), are now defunct. They put '83 on the backburner for years. However, one of the Antimatter Games founders, who left the company quite a while before they went bankrupt, has started a new studio and acquired the rights to '83. So while I'm hopeful a bunch of Tripwire and Antimatter Devs will come onboard, it's technically not the same studio/team. Fingers crossed though.

83’ is an upcoming FPS game you should keep on the radar Levelcap. It’s a spiritual successor to this and the Red Orchestra series, but instead of Vietnam it will be Cold War gone hot. The studio developing it, Blue Dot Games, is headed by Tony Gillham and Sturt Jeffery. They are the original founders of Antimatter Games and were originally behind the Rising Storm and Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. They’ve since created Blue Dot Games to revive the 83’ project back from the dead after Antimatter games got dissolved. Just the other day they announced that they had received solid investment to get the thing off the ground. It seems like the group is full of passion and has an excellent grasp of the “accessible realism” that makes RS2 shine above other mil-sim games.

The predecessor, Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm is my all time favourite FPS. It's the perfect blend of realism/arcade. Not as fast or twitchy as COD or BF, and not as slow as Arma or Hell Let Loose or Squad. I do enjoy HLL as well, but the larger maps necessarily means a slower paced game. The maps in RS2 feel larger than they usually are, so you're never far from the action (or an unseen bullet sending you back to respawn).

If you play Territories on a server with only level 99's, yes. But when RS2 is working ideally individual squads should be the real chess pieces. Commanders shouldn't be the only ones doing anything meaningful on an entire server, you mind as well be playing a 1v1 with commanders only. That's one of the main inherent issues with territories as a gamemode that I've had over the years.

It's autistically detailed. It really surprised me to learn that the amount of rounds in the magazine slightly affects recoil (less rounds means less of the gun being weighed down, so more recoil). Some of the HUD maps in the game actually have coordinates of the real life places that inspired them. The Hue City maps are based off the Dong Ba Tower area of Hue City specifically. RO2 had basically 1:1 recreations of areas of Stalingrad. RS2 approached the same map design theory but scaled and condensed a lot of things down, and in some instances things don't exactly line up in the correct cardinal locations, but you'll see a lot of landmarks and areas represented pretty accurately.
