Thank you for making the ONLY video on KZbin that really explains what Hot Switches are and HOW to program and use them.

I learned more in the first 16 minutes of this video *and retained it*, than I have in a year of messing around with the H90. THANK YOU!!

Damn - I now finally understand the Snapshots/Hot Knobs concept and its usefulness. Thank you for this very clear description!! (Agreed with other comments on audio being not great - your instruction is good - hope you have a better mic/or interface now).

Yeah. Audio was a challenge. I have changed set up now so voice and music recorded separately so they can't interfere with each other! Recording these is surprisingly difficult. But I'm getting better (I think!)

After a year of consideration and leaning in the direction of other pedals I finally purchased the h90. I waited for a used deal but there are not many used units on the market. I now know why. This box delivers far beyond a buyers expectations. No matter how much homework you do it does not prepare you for what you get. I don’t play guitar. I’m using this for fx in my downtempo, melodic techno, organic/tribal house setup. To get to know this box I spent the day with it and just my octatrack mk2. I routed cue out as an alt out of the OT to the h90 and then back into OT. Essentially a send fx. In the OT I sample a dry loop from my main then run that layer through the h90. This allow me to introduce some wild fx even on drum and bass tracks without the mud. The end result is transformational. Now that I know what this thing can do I’m really excited to craft my own programs. That’s where your video comes in. Fantastic overview. Again, Eventide is missing out on a much wider audience by not communicating the H90s full capabilities in its marketing.

OK. It took me 4 days but I finished the video while sitting next to my H90. Wonderful. You really helped me make some sense of this piece of gear. Maybe I won't sell it after all.... 🙂

Thanks! Was a lot harder to separate the audio than I thought (ended up using stem separation!). Wasn’t able to change the melody as that is what it is. But I reduced the volume and muted it a lot more so hopefully less annoying!

Thanks Mr K, This is the goat of pedals IMHO, I knew this when I bought it, however I also know I was in for a ride and I didn't spot your Vid Comp until I broke the seal and made my own attempts at releasing the trickery of this unit, for the english speaking of use your video is a unparalleled pairing to actually move from tinging fool to Expert. I can't image the painstaking time you spend to break down this unit, but I really am glad you did and for me this is the easiest like and subscribe for this alone. I can now affirmed this unit will be part of my setup for a longtime with the endless possibilities. Again thank you 🙂 one comment if I may, for those thinking to buy this unit, the pain barrier is high, but as the saying goes no pain no gain excuse the pun 😉

Why is it so difficult for musical instrument manufacturers to produce practical videos like this one? They're good at making marketing videos, but nothing pedagogically sound. Bravo for your video. It reconciles me so much with my H90 that I want to buy a second one! 🤩🙏

Yeah they are even missing the mark with positioning. The H90 is a transformational addition to a wide variety of setups that extend far beyond guitar.

thanks a lot for your video ! very helpfull ! one thing that i have trouble with is the program mix that change the volume around 50 %. i'm a guitarist and all of the pedals that i had over the years all have mix knob but they never change the volume !
@Kompa55_Music
@Kompa55_Music 10 ай бұрын
You can change the input and output gain (volume) for each effect on the H90 so you can dial in the volume to ensure you still get the effect without a bump in volume.

not finished watching yet, but a couple of questions. (im choosing between this and a fractal FM3 for a dedicated FX unt for a specific synth). Q1. I understand if I sent a PC message from the synth the H90 will switch the the corresponding program within the current playlist. if I change playlist on the H90, the same PC message would select the corresponding program in that new list - correct? Q2. when i change programs with that PC message - is the effect ACTIVE/ON by default, Inactive/OFF by default, is that state whatever the pedal was in when it received the PC. I cant find any reference in the manual to this. Benefit of the FM is I use an Axe-FX so know exactly how it works - routing, editing, number of FX at once etc. the downside is if I want to access more than 128 patches, I have to send a bank change (which the synth in question doesnt/cant do) or apply a PC offset (128 for bank 2, 256 for bank 3 etc) which is fine, but does mean going into the settings exertime, or using the PC editor - its also £300 more than the H90. Changing lists on the H90 may be easier - but not if the unit defaults to bypassed every time..... Its kind of a critical point lol.

So I’ve never tried this as I don’t use PC messages in my set up but effects selected manually are ON by default and you can control the spillover from the previous effect so if you have a reverb then selecting a new effect, the reverb tail continues even when the new effect is selected. I’m afraid I can’t say more than that.

Did you know that in the Fractal units you can store up to 10 different "scenes" per patch? Each scene can swap out anything... fx blocks, cab sims, etc. If you plan it out, you can multiply that "patch" count by 10! So many ways to configure those boxes. As for the h90, you can download the PDF manual without buying one. It has a long section on control signals and mapping. That said, yes... there is only ever one "playlist", and PC messages are just selecting numbers, not "specific patches". And if I understand your next question correctly, you can send active on/off at any time. From the manual: An Active/Bypass mapping such as “P Act/Byp” will toggle between the active and bypassed state of the Program, this will be triggered by a MIDI CC value of 64 or greater. When using “P Act/Byp (M)”, the bypassed state will be triggered with a CC value less than 64, the active state will be triggered with a CC value of 64 or greater. Using “P Act/Byp (M)” can allow you to send a separate Bypass and Active MIDI message by simply programming one switch to send a CC value less than 64, and another switch to send a CC value of 64 or greater. Good luck!

Amazingly helpful video. Thank you!!! I do have to say I had trouble getting through the whole thing because your voice audio is a bit painful to listen to. Not sure what it is. Built in mic? It stands out because your video and content are conversely of such high quality. Thank you for what you do and for taking the time to do this video.

Glad it helped! When I recorded the audio my interface merged the voice and the music whereas it should have been recorded separately so I could affect the volume of each independently. It was very annoying. I have then tried to do stem separation on the audio to get round this. It works for most of the video but I know some bits still sound odd. Recording these videos is a lot more complicated than you might imagine!

Hi Do the different "snapshots" also include changes to different "insert" conditions? if so this would make things truly flexible with snap shot one which also that includes insert 1 (but in a "Bypassed" state then "snapshot #2 hot-switch includes insert 1 but now engaged "active" (on say preset one (or "A")...then snapshot "3 hot-switch then engages insert 1 (but active/engaged) and now affecting both presets A AND B (of original program) So what is happening is Each program has two presets and each of those presets parameters can be modified @30 different ways and also each program has two possible inserts with several possible locations and also each insert can be programmed to be engaged Or bypassed...and this is all handy when it finally comes to "snapshots" because each snapshot is a recipe of different presets, parameters, inserts (and their "active/bypassed states), then finally all the a-fore mentioned now to include "snapshot" hotswitch variations.............. IS that correct???
@Kompa55_Music
@Kompa55_Music 6 ай бұрын
Yeah sounds like a good idea but that's not how it currently works. The insert / routing can't be allocated to a HotSwitch snapshot. Once you have chosen a snapshot, you can mess with the routing but it can't be done automatically.

I can't get a stereo sound from my headphones when I plug it in the output port of the h90. Is there a way to fix this?
@Kompa55_Music
@Kompa55_Music 7 ай бұрын
No, this is not possible. If you only connect out of Output 1 the H90 automatically functions in mono, even if you were to use the stereo insert last in the chain. If you will not be combining two algorithms per program, the workaround is using Dual Routing Mode and spitting your signal before the H90. Feed one to Path 1 (mono) and the other to Path 2 (stereo). Use the same algorithm for both.
@Markuson3
@Markuson3 6 ай бұрын
You’ll need to output both left and right…so if the output is loud enouhmgh, use a L/R to balanced adapter with a female balanced (stereo) out. Or… Run L/R outs to another stereo pedal with a stereo hesdphone out, or a headphone amp.
