A Greek fan here 🇬🇷 The failure to qualify for the Euros is hurting us a lot, especially the new generation which hasn't seen the national team qualifying in Euros or World Cup for 10 years straight since 2014😢 This group with Portugal and Czechia was full ov 2004 vibes, and the fact Turkey was there too was as if it was literally made for us. Unfortunately this was not the case and I think there will not be such drawing again😞 But Georgia 🇬🇪 probably wanted it more as they are debutants and they played at their home. Greece has some serious problems. It’s been 12 yrs since they last played in the Euros and 10yrs at a World Cup. Next World Cup qualifying is even harder. Only the 12 1st place teams go and the 12 2nd place plus 4 nations league teams fight for 4spots. I have a feeling we won’t see Greece at the next World Cup either

Don't worry, I've read the script. We'll draw our first match against France 1:1, then beat up the Poles (sorry guys) and then the table heading into the last match day will look like this: FRA and AUT at 4 pts, NED 3, POL 0. The Netherlands then in our last game will try their hardest to get a result and try to control the game for 90 minutes, but this is Austria, Ralf Rangnick's Austria. If Hungary's key players (Orban, Szoboszlai, Sallai, Schafer) remain healthy and in good form the team could go far in this tournament. At the same time, expectations are rising (as evidenced by most comments predicting them to advance). In 1986, Hungary was expected to be a semi-finalist at the Mexico World Cup, and they crashed to the Soviets 6-0 and out of the tournament at the group stage. So better for Hungary to lower expectations and then massively exceed them.

One quick note on Belgium worth looking into for future predictions of the Euros; Courtois won’t be a part of the team whether he’s recovered or not. He had a disagreement with the national manager, they’ve been childishly sniping at each other in interviews and social media since, other nationals have expressed doubt in wanting him to come back after this, and the national media there is saying he won’t ever return as long as Tedesco is in charge. So no Courtois in the near future…

Belgium is at the brink of a generation overhaul. Most of the squad is part of the national team now for the past 10-15 years it feels. Especially against younger teams some players struggle the keep up the speed. Sure, they still have plenty of experience and a lot of players who are able to hold the ball and keep it in the team. But I think the best time of belgium was like 4-8 years ago. For me, Belgium though still is the favorite in their group. I though don't see them progressing really far in the tournament though.

​@@Kessrathat's not really true, they are in the midst of their generational overhaul, but the only "golden generation" players who still start are Vertongen, Lukaku and KDB. Those last 2 are easily still able to keep up with the younger teams and Vertongen is only there for experience at the back. He might even lose his place in the tournament.

I still see Italy topping its group, but also changed my mind on Germany: now I see them as first in group A while still holding that Switzerland qualifies as second place (a tough call between them and Hungary). I have a bit more respect for the Netherlands now, but I'll maintain that Austria finishes on top of them and under group winner France. England, Belgium, and Portugal remain my favorites to win their respective groups.

I'm actually so excited about this Euros! Great groups all around! I'm a Hungarian and we haven't lost since September 2022 (and that was against Italy to determine first place in Nations League, where Donnarumma turned on god mode lol), but our group is very tough and to be frank, all of the teams look very much on the same level at the moment. I agree with most. I still expect Scotland to have a good tournament, and in Group B I think italy will be ahead of Croatia, although they seem to never win against them. I hope i'm wrong, but for Croatia I expect the beginning of a slump at this tournament. Modric is past his prime and usually doesn't start at Real these days, Brozovic isn't used to high competition level football anymore, Perisic is 35 and was injured for a long time. Croatia is just relying too much on these older players and hasn't produced players who can replace them.

My critique is that you're overlooking the home crowd bonus. The host of such a tournament normally does well and for example Turkey will profit from the sheer amount of supporters in Germany. When they played against Germany in Germany the small German crowd was basically silent for the whole match. Similar things might be true for Albania, Poland and Austria.

Italy never goes into a tournament as favorites because they don't have stars, but thats their strengh, team work and all they need is to be organized. Many had Italy out in the groups in 2020. Its surprising how England, with 1 trophy, always rated higher than Italy, with 7 trophies, before every tournament

2020 probably not, but in 2012 and 2016 nobody gave Italy much of a chance but they made it out of the group both times, only losing a dead rubber fixture to Ireland. Also 2008 in the group of death with the Netherlands, France and Romania. Then a lot of noise around the fact that Italy never beat Croatia. Which conveniently omits that the 2 times when they were in the same group (2002, 2012) Italy progressed from the group but Croatia didn't.

While Turkey did not play with its main squad in the 2 friendly matches, the opponents brought their best players (except David Alaba in Austria) to the field. Look at how well we played in the qualifying matches. We beat the last World 3rd place, Croatia, away. We have a good squad with great young players, the friendly matches are just trials, there is no need to care too much.
