Thank you Shripaul Ji for taking me back to my younger times. 1. Bharat Opticals, at the corner of Ghas Mandi, had family practice also. I remember the name of his compounder, Jhhaju. The famous politician, Kali Charan's dental practice was also a few shops away from Bharat Opticals, on the opposite side of the road. All Tonga wallas used to stop at Ghas Mandi to get grass for their horses. I remember seeing piles of fresh cut grass on sale. 2. Jhandu Mall Halwaii used to make only breakfast and evening snacks. His Puri were famous. I do not remember him making any other sweets. 3. KHUSHI Ram was the most famous sweets maker, especially his Rassgollas and Russ Mallaiis, Amritti, and Jallebi. 4. Shanker Halwaii used to sell ONLY MILK AND JALLEBI. The sight of milk on simmer in a wide skillet is original. His customers came at night, when the milk was brown in color and with a thick skin (MALLAII) at the top. Many used to dip Jallebi in the warm milk for dessert. There was only ONE shop not TWO as now.. Milk was served in earthen cups (Kasora) or in a Long Glass, called KANGNI WALA GLASS. My High School (SDP High School) was only a few yards from Ghas Mandi. Thanks to these shops for keeping the link between the OLD and NEW alive. THANKS TO YOU FOR TAKING US BACK IN TIME.
