EXCELLENT video sir! I bought the Hornady G3 scale recently, it has been 100% flawless. And the G3 is far better than any of their previous models in this size platform with no doubt. The added features of the G3 over the older ones was the biggest selling point. I always hated how the older ones would power down seconds later. The G3, does not, if you set it to full on. Really love the backlit screen, especially for my aging eyes. As far as i`m concerned, the G3 is the best bang for the dollar, and i have tried MANY. And just a heads up, stay away from the LYMAN scales. After the 3rd one quit shortly after buying them, i went back to the Hornady brand scale. No regrets, and i`m very happy with it! It doesn`t take up any room on your bench either! Love how compact it is. I`am not worried that its a tad slow to react. When it comes to reloading, i`m not into reloading scale racing, so there`s that. For $60 bucks, the G3 is a heck of a damn good scale.

I just bought one, and watched this video, because the instructions do not tell you how to change settings. They are very vague. But, the scale itself is excellent, for the price, and it is very easy to be accurate on my muzzle loader loads. I watched all of the video, and you did a great job, and thank you!

So far I am honestly impressed. I was expecting a 10 dollar price hike on a repacked same old scale, but the more I played with it it just seemed to work. The G2 was constantly needing to be zeroed and was high by a .1gr at 10gr. This one so far is rock solid. I have to say it seems like they finally decided to make a scales that did everything right.

@thetexasr.a.t.2059Ай бұрын
I got this scale based off of this video. It does trickle well and is as accurate as my beam scale. The only issue is it needs to be re-zeroed before every weighing cause it does drift. Other than that it does the job well for a small inexpensive digital scale. I always drop a light charge from a Redding Competition 10X powder measurer into the scale pan, set the pan on my Ohaus 5-0-5 beam scale, trickle the charger to weight with a Lyman Brass Smith powder trickler, then move the pan to the Hornady G3-1500 as a double check. If the two scales do not agree I double check the beam scale poses and re-zero the G3-1500 and then reweigh the pan. So far once a pose on the beam scale had inadvertently been moved, but all other discrepancies have been because the G3-1500 had drifted off of zero. Hence I re-zero the G3-1500 before each weighing and the two scales have agreed 100% ever since. For the price the G3-1500 is a great little scale. But one day I want to upgrade to a Creedmoor Sports TRX-925 Precision Reloading Scale to replace the G3-1500 to perform the double check upon. I move each case as I charge them to a second loading block to help insure that each case gets a charge, and only one charge at that. Once a lot of 50 cases are charged I use a light to look down into them sitting in the loading block (as a third safety check) to be sure all cases have charges and that none are double charged at that. And even after I up grade to the Creedmoor Sports TRX-925 Precision Reloading Scale I will continue with this same process, as it allows me a few visual safety checks (once on the beam scale, secondly on the digital scale, and the third being visual as well). The first two safety checks are to make sure the charge is right and the third is to assure that charges are made to each case and only once at that. SAFETY is key to a long and fun loading hobby.

@@BoltActionReloading Yeah, it does the job right well, so long as I re-zero it before each weighing to be absolutely sure that it is zeroed. Other wise it may or may not drift.

I just got one of these to replace my failing-sometimes working cheap digital scales (one FA and one WAOAW) and this is a great upgrade. As a side note I'd say skip the WAOAW as while it works (6 months) its great for the price, but they all seem to get the 'jitters' after some time and the way to correct it - is to replace it. This new G3 is dead on accurate with my Ohaus calibration weight set. Whther its 3,4,5,10,20 or 40 grain weights it is DEAD ON. Will it last and stay accurate over time? Who knows at this point, but so far so good. I keep a Lyman Ohaus D5 and Ohaus 10-05 beam scales as backup , but the dead on accuracy and speed at this price is hard to argue with

I have the smaller cheaper scale (1500l my biggest problems with it are, setting it down too firmly can mess the zero, low battery and electronics near it make the scale read 20 different numbers quickly and alternating. And lastly, I have difficulties getting. 1 grain increment trickles on it it always goes from 42.4 when I'm going for 42.5 to 42.6 even if I barely add any powder to it
@danknabb28263 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I'm getting zero drift on the scale while weighing bullets, but maybe that qualifies as "too firmly." I'll try adding the bullets to the powder pan then gently placing it on the scale. I had the pan on the scale, then added bullets to the pan, dropping them from maybe an inch above the pan.

As a follow up I've been using the G3 for a little bit now. I find it much more reliable than the G2. Not sure if that is simply some trickery in the programming, but it holds zero and I haven't yet been able to fault it. I don't have an expensive set of scales to compare it to, so this is just from my observations.

My Frankford Arsenal scale skips digits in the tenths of grains even while trickling slowly and carefully up, to the point where I don't trust it for pistol loads. I might trust it alone in the field if I were using Lee scoops in a rifle cartridge with an unfamiliar powder, and wanted to check that I was at least a couple of whole grains away from maximum. What I saw from the G3 here tells me it could be trusted to carry the day if I had Lee Loaders or a Lee hand press-based kit out at the range with me.
@danknabb28263 жыл бұрын
@@Ensign_Cthulhu I get the same results with my FA scale. Don't trust it at all. I've used it to confirm my beam scale. I've used it to grossly sort mixed bullet weights. The FA platen is also position sensitive and you will get different results based on where you place the object on the scale.

Hornady lost a lot of credibility with me and caused me to step back and consider other brands when making subsequent reloading tool purchases. If I zero the scale, and measure out 40 gn, and remeasure the same load by lifting if and placing it back on the scale, the weight goes up by .1. Do it five times to the same load, and it will measure 40.5 I have to rezero the scale after every measurement! Garbage. My cheap chinese scale is faster and more consistent.
