UPGRADED LED Headlight on the Magna - 1983 Honda Magna V45

Upgrading the headlight to an LED cluster and larger bucket to fit. Hoping to get more visibility in the morning hours on my way to work and some extra power for anytime I am out after dark.
The Honda Magna was the first muscle bike that started a craze that has lasted for 40 years. Sporting a 90 degree V4 engine, Hydraulic Clutch, and shaft drive the Honda Magna was a direct attack on Harley. A cult following to this day the Honda Magna is a true classic that deserves more attention from the motorcycle world.

I don't really have a reason to upgrade mine to an LED since night time riding is not really my thing. I enjoy the retro look of things. The only LED's I have on my bike are the bulbs in the dash so I can see them better in daytime.

Okay, I have a 84 Shadow 750 and switched to an LED headlight similar to this one with a Halo that has right and left blinkers. I did have to install Canadian Tire brand LED resistors as I had the Hyper Flash so I installed one on the left front blinkers and one on the right side. Now initially I did notice how hot them resistors became but as of late they don't seem to heat up quite as much as? I did have the 3 yellow wire melt down from the Stator incident recently and the 30AMP fusible link connector also was melted. So I installed a new Stator-Regulator and hard wired them (soldered the connections) and I also hard wired the 30AMP Red wire before it goes into the 30AMP fuse eliminating the connectors. I've been riding for over 1 week now glitch free however I'm unsure how to check the load like another mentioned in the comments. I've installed a USB/Cigarette Lighter yesterday and it's show's Volts on my system so can that be an indicator of sorts I can monitor or just the old fashioned way of putting my hand on the Regulator to check how warm/hot it becomes or where should I check with a voltmeter?

Let me do some research when I get home, not sure off the top of my head. I will see what I can come up with. I have a volt meter on the bike to monitor output but wouldn't be bad to know how to double check the load.

amzn.to/3R3yhzu That is what I used to push the bucket forward to fit with everything else stock. Has held no problem for me, bolted through the stock bracket with a couple large washers and some lock nuts. When I am home next I can get a picture and post it somewhere if needed. Thanks!

where did you move the choke cable when you replaced the clutch master. im rebuilding an 83 as well just curious.

I ran a temporary cable up to the instruments cluster. Just a universal pull style off amazon. I am going to figure out something better as i just have it zip tied so it sits right next to the speedometer.

Ok so I have a 1982 Honda magna vf750c. I put a led bucket on the bike then the voltage regulator rectifier wires started to burn so I assumed the led headlight burnt it out. I got a ricks voltage regulator off eBay and got load equalizers. Am I right in assuming the led headlight drawing less power overheated the rectifier and the load equalizer adding some load back on will help?

I think the LED switch was the catalyst to failure. But double check the three yellow wire connections under the seat, these are the wires coming from the stator, for any build up or sign of heat, that connection may contribute to the failure. The lower load of the LED can cause the older style rectifiers to fail due to the heat dump. I currently do not have any load equalizers in my system, but I do have a volt meter to monitor the output. You are on the right track of thinking from my perspective!

@@magnamole I replaced my r/r and added a load equalizer and the couple of up and down the roads there’s no signs of heat in the connections

Better than the stock halogen/sealed beam light but not going to surpass something modern. Haven't been out at night in a minute, been working through some nerves after hitting a deer earlier this year. But I have been meaning to go out for an evening ride before the winter sets in.
