Most definitely. Every time I see someone on Reddit ask anything about airbrushing I recommend Marco's videos. Ive seen so many others, but none of them really helped. I started using mixing cups to thin my paints and a little drying retarder. I havent had a clog since

It's amazing how you have a new tecnique every video. Most mini painting channels struggle to give you new content, you keep throwing so much new stuff at me that I usually have to rewatch videos just to undestand. Thank you. I was wondering: would oil washes work/partially work in lieu of the acrylic washes? I'm thinking the big difference is the drying times (not too high for oil wash, but still not negligible in multiple applications), but perhaps a single oil wash before or after all the acrylics (or a more displaced application) might be interesting. Or would it not work, because oil stays more in the recesses and the "controlled staining" wouldn't function?

I've been painting like this for a while. These days I use vallejo washes and then go over that with Pro-acryl transparents. Now the pro-acryl transparent line has a white and black you can mix so many colours. I love how the colour of the wash really impacts the way the transparent layers look on top of it. I do also give a highlight drybrush to help give that pop through the transparent layers. Then highlight these after. Great to see someone highlighting this kind of work!

This is basically my routine with one key difference. I undershade it as you did and then I use CPs and Inks to color it. But because I am usually in a hurry and I am mostly speed painting board game minis, after the all the base coloring is done I do not highlight them as you did. Instead I lightly drybrush it again with white, just going for the highest spots and then I lightly re-apply the CPs and Inks, perhaps I bit more diluted, just to recolor those top highlights. It wont look as fantastic as yours, but it is great compromise if you want fast!
@FrikisviajerosGC

That's exactly what I was thinking. His highlighting work is top notch but I think with this technique and half the commitment in the final hightlinting you can reach a tabletop very good standard.

Everything boils down to your astounding grasp of color and all those concepts, once you have that I bet you can achieve the same results with cheap craft paints and a ratty sponge. To the rest of us that don't have said grasp, it kinda feels like magic, even as we see it happen with explanations.
@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@MarcoFrisoniNJM 2 жыл бұрын
Well, that's a huge generalisation based only on your experience. There are many intermediate and advanced painters that don't consider this magic, but just a new idea to try. Plus even if you are a beginner and you can't use this now it's still a bunch of new knowledge able to enrich your understanding of painting and in the worst case scenario, something inspiring to aspire to...

So, brilliant. My only complaint is that for the detail you are providing with this miniature, it strikes me that his axes are sort of clean. Now, maybe he came across the slain, brain opened oger/whatever and pretended he slew it. But I imagine that's a hard jump of immersion, and a bit (not insane amounts, or who knows maybe?) of splatter would go a long way to putting a final touch on this great piece.

Fantastic once more! I love these series and will for sure check these techniques as well. Can we also use inks in this way? I got liquitex inks but I can't seem to get this kind of a mix out of it.

Thanks a million!!! Oh yeah inks can easily behave like Contrast or premade washes with the right balance of medium and water; it's difficult to give a precise recipe because every colour reacts a bit differently but the ingredients are always the same

And I was just looking at getting an air brush for zenithal highlighting with inks 😂 guess that will save me a pretty penny! Will probably buy it anyway tho.. it just looks so easy and clean and perfect when you use one, I want to learn 👌

Hahaha bad timing! the first part is precisely about creating quick zenithal effects with the brush XD Anyway it's an invaluable tool to cut the working time on large projects, but I always suggest to wait until you have a good grasp of brush techniques

I recommend one if only to prime indoors with. I live in a very humid area and rattlecans outside leave a nasty texture.

I really recommend you buying an airbrush. Even if you only use it for priming, it will worthy. And after a while, you couldn't live without one of them hahaha

Outstanding rebuttal for airbrush haters, very well done. Also, I really enjoy watching your brush movement, laying down the light information, cheers for that.However ... You basically painted a dwarf green. Now i know its "supposed to be a goblin" but, I think this has to be recorded as a Grudge. So sorry,. (joking btw, awesome work)

Trying out this workflow which seems really interesting. I like the fact that you increase the opacity in this way and the considerations about base colours. Do you think this is doable without contrast paint, but just with diluted paint?

It seems to be a great technic ! I'm definitely gonna try it for my next Blood Bowl team. Just wondering if this warm shade would also fit a turquoise lizard mini ? I like the fact that it could make the lizard warmer but I wonder if it would work on a predominantly cold color min or if I'm "forced" to go with a colder shade (blue or green) in this case.
@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@MarcoFrisoniNJM 2 жыл бұрын
In this case I would start with a warm tone more compatible with an evolution into saturated blue and turquoise like magenta or a warm violet!

Excellent video! Of the limited number of products i've tried contrasts are more enjoyable than most. Have a better chance of developing my skills using them than traditional paint. Ordered some Montana aluminum primer to try on pewter hoping it will be tougher than what i've been using. Which cap would you recommend for priming a mini?

Sure, it just takes a bit more time to create the same kind of opacity Check this old video where I use a similar idea: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5CrmneAYpmYp7M

Yep, Contrast paints are simply diluted inks 😉! A bit of water, medium and maybe some flow improver into inks and you get the same behaviour
