About Scrap Mechanic:

Here’s the deal: you’re a robot maintenance mechanic en route to your posting on a fully-automated agriculture planet. Your job is to take care of the worker robots as they work the land, sending the food they produce to the metropolitan planets. Thing is, close to touchdown your spacecraft loses control and crashes, but since you’ve got luck on your side (erm…), you survive! You’re stranded though, and at first glance you find that not everything’s quite as it should be. The Farmbots working the fields have gone crazy, and now there’s only one way to stay alive: using your quick thinking, your creativity and your wily knack of turning your surroundings to your advantage.

instead of putting metal around the raft , use the reinforced raft bases , they have a much higher durability than the regular raft bases

I’ve played the mod for a bit, and what I’ve been doing is creating a stone / concrete border around the raft. The raft pieces are buoyant enough so that it won’t make much difference, and metal is needed for propellers and harpoons. Propellers also stack on top of one another, so putting around 4 on a bearing works fine without causing any issues.

Rather than metal, wrap it in stone, as you need metal for propellers and harpoons

Farming on land in this mod is identical as in vanilla. If you want to conserve drinking water, take every opportunity to farm on land every time you're on an island. For low-tier crops, a 3x3 farm plot won't trigger raids. For blueberries & oranges, a 2x2 plot is raid-free.

For the shark problem. I have a few salutations. One put sensors around the raft connected to a alarm to let you know a shark is near . And make either drills or saw blades and put them around the raft to detour them .

I modded the night-cycle so that dusk starts at 23:30, it's fully dark at midnight and it's bright again at 00:30. That way you can still have an idea of the passage of time, but you can actually see what's going on 95% of the time. I'd be happy to send you the modded file or instructions to do it yourself, you only have to replace 1 line of text in survival/scripts/game/survival_constants.lua I haven't figured out how to change the light intensity of night, that seems a bit trickier.

I didn't see where you guys found this out the hard way but if the shark destroyed a float it will also destroy what's on those. I've also had the shark start eating floats in the middle of the raft too so you actually have to armor everything. I've also had a shark come flying out of the water hit my starting at work bench, destroying it and I had to sail across what felt like the entire map to buy a new workbench. I also hadn't built any propellers so I was only doing sales

the "sharks" do make a noise. it is the same sound as hitting with a hammer. You need the game sounds up quite a lot to here it. If you kill them they also drop the shark plaque occasionally. The wind doesn't always push you in a direction you want, and the wind sock, for me at least, sometimes reads backwards.

This would be a build for way in the future, but it would be cool if you glitch welded a bunch of sails inside each other and put them on a small platform with a steering seat, essentially making a sail powered jetskii.

I'd make a plow or scoop in front of the boat, so stuff doesn't go under and get stuck on the barrels and I still vouch for making the front of the craftbot flush with the floor, for more space on the raft

I haven't actually launched SM in months, but /DAY should set it to noon and turn off time - I don't know if this effects crops etc. Otherwise, google suggests that two years ago you could (both players) change the value of DAYCYCLE_LIGHTING_VALUES in scripts\game\survival_constants.lua to "{ 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 }" for permanent daylight - I have no idea if this is still the case or practical.
