A little bit of green or blue Locktite on the threads is also always a good idea. I crew chief my sons oval dirt track Go Kart racing team and you wouldn't believe how many Karts I see every single race night that lose their clutch bolt and along with it the drive key out of their Bully clutches and end up free revving their engines crankshaft inside of their $500 clutch. Can be avoided for about a pennies worth of thread locker. Good video with good info. There is always a bit of movement of the clutch on the crankshaft output shaft so the grease on the shaft is a great way to avoid the friction from wearing out your clutch and crank.

@@georgehunter4023 yup absolutely very good tips! I always use a lock washer on the bolt and hit it with the impact and never had any issues!
@georgehunter40234 ай бұрын
@@Guido19 the impact isn't an option on a race kart unless you pull the engine out. Only a couple of inches from the seat.

Hi temp anti seize would be better than grease on the surfaces that you don’t want parts getting stuck on.

I got a question, I’m thinking I’m going to buy a Titan" Racing Clutch from Premier (Noram), 14T #35 Chain I’m also going to upgrade the sprocket to a split sprocket. How many tooth sprocket would you use with the 14 tooth clutch to get 55+mph? I want to do like you were saying get a good clutch to cruise with but then be able to go real fast if I wanted. I’m only thinking about getting a 14 tooth clutch because a friend is telling me too. What gearing would you use while still having a good ratio to not burn it out? I have a stage three predator on a DB 30 minibike.
@Guido1910 ай бұрын
If you have a 60 tooth sprocket you should be able to achieve that no problem!
@Greybuiltracing10 ай бұрын
If your gonna get a titan clutch, i would recommend you also get a lower engagement springs for it. In the video he was basically explaining that you dont want to linger below the engagement of the springs. Engagement is when the clutch engages. Theres diff springs for different engagements . The titan comes with a 4000 rpm engagement. I dont think your engine is built that much . Especially for cruising bud. If i were you , i would save your cash and get a cheaper one . Bro im using an amazon clutch and im hitting 75mph lol. I have a built engine that does need the titan and that build if for just racing . Hope this helps .

Also , an expensive clutch isn’t gonna make u faster. Hope u dont take it a diss. I wish someone would have told me this when i first started building engines.

Does a race clutch make it faster
@Guido197 ай бұрын
Yes! One can engage better so you can launch harder and you can go with a different gear ratio selection as well which you can gain speed or gain torque
@bigcconservativeguy25346 ай бұрын
It can but not by nature of what a clutch is doing vs another clutch, they all pretty much work the same with only minor exceptions. Where you gain is in engagement and high rpm lock-up. On the bottom, if you engage at a higher RPM for launch, and you don't completely knock the tires off it you're going to be quicker 0-30mph for example. At the top end, if your clutch locks up better, meaning you have less slippage, you are going to gain mph because there is no energy loss. As far as greasing the crank the explanation given is only partly correct. What you really want to do is put "anti seize" there vs traditional grease. The rule of thumb is that any metal on metal surface contact where there is no rotation/movement then use anti seize, if there is movement then you use the appropriate type of grease for the application! Anti seize has higher heat tolerance than grease usually as well and primarily is used to prevent galling, seizing and corrosion. It also assists in lubricating to ease disassembly, which is what is needed here. There are more differences between anti seize and grease but for this particular application that covers what you need to know!
